@@BogeyDope What is more hilarious is it's probably true, think of how many young maintainers have seen getting into a Hornet cockpit while "checking the systems" as his own personal private time, something hard to find on the boat for junior enlisted.
Quick correction from a Hornet driver…Master Arm is always the LAST STEP. That’d be a big debrief point for safety. Otherwise great stuff, especially the dimming of the HUD.
Thank you for that! My intention with these is to get a novice up and running, and not go through the real life checklists. This is good to know though! Question though, wouldn't you already have master arm on when you fenced in back when you entered the AO? Or is master arm not part of fencing in in real life? I was under the impression it was?
@@BogeyDope Great question. It’s SOP dependent, but typically Master Arm goes hot at “commit” when air-to-air, or prior to weapons release for air-to-ground on the Navy/USMC side. Probably too nitpicky for a SIM. Great videos!

I think I actually ended up firing about 210 rounds or so instead. . . held the trigger longer than I intended.
120mm what is it a flying abrams? F18 has a Gen Dynamics 20mm gatling, 412 rounds max capacity, rotary linkless closed loop feed with a hydraulic drive
My dad was an e2 pilot - flew off kitty hawk class carriers in the gulf war. My brother is a viper pilot but did a stint with the navy as an agressor (or whatever) for top gun. he learned how to fly the rhino during that and even got to do a few traps, he would tell me dad the navy jets smelled sissy. I'n guessing "navy" just smells sissy 🤣🤣 got me crackin up man

You Hornet drivers got all the cool gadgets. In the Tomcat we only have a cross that bounces around the HUD like it's on crack. We do have that same smell though..
As a hornet. We do things more simpler, we bind GUN to HOTAS. One click and just shoot. Forget CCIP, forget hi or low. Just switch and shoot like a real hornet. Low IQ, all reflex.
When a Naval Aviator sits in that 30 degrees reclined F-16 ejection seat with the sidestick controller HOTAS, it goes like this, "Feels like Chair Force in here... nice."
@@BogeyDope Oh I know how comfortable you are in your little Vipers. I was sun tanning on my boat one summer afternoon, in the French style so to speak, in the middle of a massive lake. Snoozing after snorkeling and playing frisbee, with a nice cheeseburger on the grill after. Warm sun, watching my guy up on the top deck washing it down, cleaning the windows etc., wearing his sexy white trunks that are just a little too short for his tall an fit build. On my back, propped a bit up on some throw pillows and hear a jet coming in on a downwind leg, from the base off in the distance. The superstructure of my boat hid a visual of his approach until he was just a half mile or so away. He had rolled the jet and was making a lazy path across the lake almost like an airshow pass. I put my arm up to block the sun and saw him break high and into me and at the top of the punt maneuver, flip up his helmet sun visor, seeing shiny silver bars on his shoulders as he applied full military power to stay rotating over my boat. My guy, "Towel or are you going to give him the Playboy centerfold view for a while longer? Me : "He cant's see me from up there." Him : "Can you see his helmet?" Me : "Oh crap!" 😯 I picked up a towel to cover up and the F-16 driver rolled out and left the "AO". 😂

20mm, but I'll let you off with a warning. General Dynamics M61A1 20mm 6-barrel Gatling gun. Spooky, the C130, Angel of Death, has a 105mm cannon. The M1 Abrams has a 120mm cannon. It's a very bad day to be catching 20mm rounds.
Yep. That's what I said.... "A HUNDRED 20 mike mikes to the face." I know I held the trigger down too long, and ended up sending probably 200-300 rounds down range though.
Gun sound is from the F16 not the F18, each sounding different with gun location and drive system. The F18 gun is very smooth running that keeps a sustained fire rate, while the F16 rate is more inconsistent
I'm starting to think that planes and jets need a voice assistant with the switches and buttons being the backup system. Saying "Fighter, arm main gun low" is a lot easier than trying to troubleshoot the freaking Matrix.
wouldnt be more accurate to after selecthing the gun settngs to press SCS up to put the radar in AGR mode wich helps calculating the CCIP pipper more accuratelly?
More hornet content! Trim AOA and fly the ball in 60 seconds! (Meatball, line up, AOA... repeat) make a dos gringos "5000 other men" joke while you taxi clear.
