Hello
With this video the previous video about necessary settings in the controls of the Gazzelle loses its validity.
Today we look at the new flight model of the Gazzele in terms of basic behavior during takeoff, hover and flight.
I give a recommendation which changes in the controls might be helpful.
Please note the personal circumstances, differences in different systems and make your own adjustments accordingly.
If you are new to the Gazelle, I recommend only changing the collective in the range from 80 down to 60% of the X-axis.
The Gazelle is famous for its agility and power, hence always a short aggressive flight part.
Hell of a ride, the next video is coming in a few days and shows an aggressive low level flight between buildings and other obstacles.
Low-Level Heaven creates very realistic missions for DCS World and especially the Bell UH-1.
One of the best, if not the best, flight simulations for helicopters and jets.

LG Dirk

I'm glad I started on this FM. I just started DCS and have always had a love for heli's. I do fly 6 channel remotes. And understand the basic flight mechanisms. But I agree with the slow reaction to the collective. So I am going to try your setting once and see. I'm still learning. But getting there.

The Gazelle is a lot of fun again, but if you realy like to learn the basics, in my opinion, the Huey is the better model. I startet a long time ago with RC helicopter flying bevor switching to the real ones. 👍

Thanks for this Grizzly. You have inspired me to try the Gazelle again. The old model had put me off (scoop)

There's still a lot of work to do, but yes, it's a lot of fun again.

I’m pretty comfortable with the FM as it is now. It does feel little heavy still, but it’s much more controllable and heavy is a better experience than the UFO it was a few years ago, in my mind. At least it kinda feels like it might be real, if not perfect. I haven’t watched the full video yet, so I don’t know if this was covered but the previous FM, and I’m not sure this is a function of the FM, let’s say the previous iteration, I found the skids had dreadful stiction when landing or taking off on some surfaces. Not all, concrete and runways were fine but some ad hoc LZs in campaigns had me landing and taking off in what felt like treacle. This does seem to be improved. The stiction was easy enough to compensate for if there was no wind, but even the slightest cross wind and I’d be lucky to get the thing up or down without slamming it sideways into the dirt. Now, I’ve never flown a heli but compared to the other choppers in DCS, I found this behaviour a lot more extreme and it made the Gazelle almost impossible to use in a campaign situation where I’d be 75% through a mission and would have to roll the dice as to whether I’d have to restart or not. Every time. Anyway, this seems better now.

Love the Gazelle and was disappointed when flight characteristics changed, so much so I moved onto the KA-50. Now I prefer the KA-50 because it has a bigger weapon loadout so there's more to engage on a mission. But Yeah, Gazelle is a fun heli and probably better suited for multi-player with more options.

The point of adjusting the axes is elementary in sim flying. We have to adapt a haptic setup to a wide variety of aircraft patterns. Every joystick, like every flight model, has its own characteristics. So a tutorial for helicopter beginners would be nice... But yes, the Gazelle is now really a great DCS helicopter.🫡

They got ir workind Dec/ Jan time, but ever since the last two DCS updates, my Gazelle in DCS is not behaviouring it rocks too much using yaw rudder which you compensate with cyclic
@lowlevelheaven

I can't confirm this from the little experience of a few hours flight. I need to get deeper in the flight model, with more awareness. But is this fair in the actual state? The flight model is not perfect jet, but we may expect more updates and improvements.

Hi Grizzly, I'm curious how the Gazelle flies with a full complement of weapons. I tried flying the stock campaign mission and had a really hard time getting it off the ground with standard loadout. (CptTangerine)

Hi, nice to hear from you. Yes the Gazelle is in my opinion actuel underpowered. Not shure what the reference data are used by the programmer. This is also recognizable on the tail rotor an it's ability to counteract torque.

I see the red thread points straight to the aft of the helicopter even if you are moving at a walking pace. That's an inaccuracy of the simulation, right?
@lowlevelheaven
@lowlevelheaven 3 месяца назад
Not necessarily. I don't use the trim. And since the Gazelle is not loaded and has little fuel, it may well be that it is front-heavy. I haven't noticed this personally. Thanks for that. But I would say that is correct and speaks in favour of the model
@heinzriemann3213
@heinzriemann3213 3 месяца назад
@@lowlevelheaven Ok, not sure if I'm misunderstanding. The thread is pointing about 90 degrees from the ground straight towards the back of the aircraft. I'd assume that the downdraft would not allow for that at such low speeds. Am I getting something wrong? Thanks

@lowlevelheaven
@lowlevelheaven 3 месяца назад
@@heinzriemann3213 Sorry. Sorry. I was standing right on the string. You're right of course, at slow speeds the airflow from the rotor domminates and the string bounces wildly back and forth. Just like a flag in the wind. In the end, simulating this in DCS is probably more a question of effort and benefit and, of course, priorities. Personally, I can live with it as it is. If it were adapted, it would certainly be noticed positively for a short time and then no longer noticed, because the thread only fulfills its function in flight. But take care anyway. Some more advertising on my own behalf. We also fly Gazell in the squadron.

@redrex8003
@redrex8003 2 месяца назад

@@lowlevelheaven It is light attack helo but FM is so heavy and broken. Polichop was impressed by real Gazelle pilot review so they did something before Kiowa coming. If you muck around with 30%fuel for sightseeing no problem but not suitable for battle at all. I used to fly this thing a lot of time. It is just not right.

I agree that this has been the worst flight model to date. It was simply unflyable. It is however now very good, I’m flying it a lot, it’s finally decent. Not perfect but close.
