@Phil Collins 3 is like none. Or, like 1. Also if ther are 9, that's is still, like none, at all. That level of casualness about my admitted ignorance and laziness to look into the matter, was all apparent in my original if you look deeper. I said 5 words and 2 take away from the rest, "like", and "lol", the position of the word "lile", negates the specifics numeric value of even a numeral, like 1, coming after it. I'm going on , like, forever, I know.

@bleeckertb 3 года назад
i do believe GPS was around before the F/A-18, the system was classified back in the day and not open to non Military use, later they relaxed a little and allowed civies to use a down graded signal, and later still to the system everyone now enjoys
@BicyclesMayUseFullLane
@BicyclesMayUseFullLane 3 года назад
@@bleeckertb If by "downgraded" signal, you meant there's an unencrypted signal and encrypted signal, this is still the case. Though apparently civvie receiver can, through black magic, still somehow use the encrypted signal to gain some accuracy. If you meant selective availability, well, that hasn't been a thing for like 20 years, because differential GPS made it irrelevant. Coast Guard ran DGPS stations that "unscrambles" GPS signal that was scrambled by Air Force; the whole selective availability thing was literally peak federal government.

Mr Mover if you see this comment id like you to know you really inspire me to get into the aviation industry and since i love the hornet and im only 14 i have DCS and try at my best to make each flight as realistic as possible now for a strange request but could you do the f18 start video in dcs BUT its in a single player world and you show off all the checks just like how you did it in your former hornet days

Great video! Regarding the INS, IFA wasn't implemented at the time this tutorial was made, and is generally outdated

The autostart sequence does go through the extra checks that the tutorial left out, and it completes the entire sequence very quickly (compared to the tutorial length).

Thanks for the video. Very enjoyable and interesting to watch! I still wonder what your opinion is regarding this DCS Hornet vs Real life Hornet, especially avionics (I can imagine real pilots miss the 'seat of the pants'). But a comparison around this time is interesting, especially now considering this dcs module has evolved and should be more fleshed out and closer to real life. The DCS Hornet is planned to go out of early acces this year. Not asking for any classified stuff btw...😉. Anyway, thanks and take care!

1:32 I miss him, too. Matt "Press Spacebar to continue" Wagner :D 3:55 "Ohl pressure" :) 8:47 I wonder if you have to _hold down_ the friggen thing _for a second_ IRL as well for it to actually ack the cautions and restack the advisories like in DCS... 15:13 Old tutorial, hasn't been reworked yet. IFA wasn't functioning in the DCS module for a long time. 16:14 I'm doing this while the FCS BIT runs and I think Wags also did so on his tutorial video (which basically is where I learnt how to start up the thing). I'm baffled the tutorial mission skips it. Probe, speed brake, hook and launch bar. And later the controls wipe. TBH I usually skip the fire test in the beginning to speed things up.

Mover if you were on an alert situation and needed to scramble quickly is there a different procedure to start up or do you just do it faster?
@c-boy767
@c-boy767 3 года назад
Probably you would skip the engine fire tests + the checks mover mentioned (hook etc).

Nice video! Really enjoyed seeing the real thing compared to the sim! I never realized how high you sit and how small the actual cockpit is!! Question: What happens on an alert type aircraft where your scrambled to get in the air as soon as possible. Do you still hv to wait 4 minutes for alignment? Think there’d be a quicker way?? Thx again!!

True but also bear in mind he is a big man, pretty much at the top end of the metrics for fitting in the cockpit. I think he once said is he a tad over 6 feet tall.

One thing that's kind of annoying for this awesome idea of comparing the tutorials to your real life experience is that a lot of the tutorials are not up to date. That's just the problem with the F/A 18 still being an early access module. Many features have been added/updated while some missions/tutorials just haven't been adjusted accordingly. So expect a few hiccups here and there. Apart from that, as I said, awesome idea! Seeing it side by side with your commentary is really fun, I wonder if they implement correct ground crew functionality outside of the carrier module in the future...

You're correct about setting the INS knob to IFA, In DCS, for the INS alignment in the hornet, once you set the INS knob to GRND, you have to immediatley select the stored heading button/ OSB on the Advanced Multipurpose Colour Display and once that's done aligning, you set it to IFA like you were saying, not NAV, otherwise your INS alignment will slowly degrade over time while you're flying, if you select stored heading align and set it to IFA, the alignment will not degrade. Not sure how it works in real life but in DCS this is how it works.
@CWLemoine
@CWLemoine 2 года назад
That is not how it works in real life. Never did a stored heading alignment in the Hornet.

The NAV option is selected due to the fact, that IFA was not implemented yet when this tutorial was created. If I remeber correctly IFA was added last year. As of now this tutorial for the Hornet is outdated. A lot of new functions was added in the last year. Anyway thank you for the compare with the real world. Like that live footage :-) o7

Hey Mover! Your fans can only hope & dream that the USN Blue Angels & USAF Thunderbirds would take you for “incentive/VIP” rides at an airshow in their respective two-seaters. We would love nothing more than to see the pilots turn the aircraft over to you for some “stick time”, for old times sake. You sir, belong amongst the clouds! Love the channel, love what you do, and thank you for everything that you do for aviation, your fans, your family, and your country!
