A tutorial on autorotation with the DCS SA-342M Gazelle by Polychop Simulations. This procedure is as per the Eurocopter flight manual. Let me know in the comments if it helped!
Tried it over and over, following the instructions precisely, I just can't generate enough lift after flaring :( unless I pull full collective. Whereas in your video at 2:08 you're able to reduce rate of descent with just 40% torque, don't know what I'm doing wrong.
You might want to check if there is a deadzone in your collective or not; it'll reduce your range of motion of the collective and prevent you from being able to decrease your descent rate. However, the FM did change a little since the last patch.
Was there a recent change in the flight model? I used to crash every single flight, get into alot of PIOs and hovering in/out of ground effect was non existent. low level flight was very difficult and the tail rotor was over powering. Now I can control the aircraft way better and the response feels like a light helicopter with no change to my flight inputs as before.
+WhiskeyCobra Did you apply any saturation on your collective axis? One of the reasons people crash it that they put their collective saturation to 80, which limits their collective range to 80 % of their total motion range.
+Chuck Owl Nope I did mess with curves and saturation on the cyclic at first but it did not help at all. So I returned it to stock and I still could not control the AC. For some reason I have better control of the AC now. I can land it on the small deck of the Oliver Perry now which would be impossible prior. Quick question what is that #4 on the VCB TV optics bottom left when using the Hot 3's? (Opposite side of the Launch Authority rectangle) I though it would be a missile count but it does not count down with each launch.
If you ever need to do a more aggressive flare, (for landing in confined space) a little bit of up collective combined with forward cyclic will help level the ship than just using forward cyclic alone.
+zzodr That is true. However, I often have a tendency to overcompensate with collective when I need to "cushion" my landing. What happens then is that I climb and smack myself on the ground much harder, often busting my skids in the process. To each his own technique I guess.
Yeah true. But if the real Gazelle was a touchy as this flight model, 80% of pilots would be killed in it I reckon. It's still in beta of course, it will get better.
