This video is based in true events.
The first real action of the Mirage F1 was impressive. At the very beginning of its operational life, the Iraqi Mirage F1 entered the “hall of fame” by killing some Iranian F14 Tomcats, by using the new Super Matra 530F missiles and the “Giraffe” maneuver.
After the First Gulf War, more than twenty Iraqi Mirages escaped to Iran. The US Intelligence Services discovered that the pilots were not defecting, but the flights were part of a secret plan with the agreement of Iran government.
After the First Gulf War, the Allies enforced two NFZ in the north and south of Irak. The threat of Mirage F1 pilots escaped into Iran was taken very seriously by the USAF.
To counter the threat, the USAF Squadrons received a training program in Spain and Germany, before the rotations to the Gulf. In this video we show an example of the thousands of mockup combats in between the USAF F16 and the Spanish Air Force Mirage F1. The beginning was hard for viper pilots to counter the tactics and skills of the experienced Spanish fighter pilots. But the training was of high value for the mission.
Today, those Mirages in the video continue training USAF pilots, as aggressors under the flag of Draken Intl. This video is dedicated to the Spanish fighter pilots who operated the Mirage F1.
Hornet Productions Team
--DISCLAIMER--
Due to the unavailability of the missile S530F at the time of filming, the Giraffe mision was flown using the 530F, instead of S530F.
The story doesn´t change, and for those willing to test this missions in DCS, the good news is that now the Super Matra S530F is available on the release.
We apologise for the misunderstandings if it happen to appear. Thanks."

HOLY SHIT, I've come back to this after a while, and holy shit, how the fuck does this not have at least a million views? The quality of this is utterly astounding to the point that I could legit see it being a tv show!

I lived in rural Spain for half a decade, off grid, halfway up a mountain not that far from Albacete. One day I watched a four ship of Spanish Hornets running a mock attack on an abandoned finca ( farmhouse ) on our mountain. The weather was what I would call marginal and the mountain peak was obscured by cloud. It was the best air show I've ever seen, the Spanish pilots were highly aggressive with their flying. I don't know if the Hornets were from Albacete ( note to the narrator - it's pronounced Alba-thetty ) though. The airbase is called Los Llanos by the way.

arabs in their many wars have showed some interesting creativity in air combat , on almost equal terms they do shine like in the Kippur war where they almost eradicated like third of the israeli airforce in 2 days . many israeli pilots called them mad pilots for trying to do crazy maneuvers especially when they are in difficulty or have the element of surprise . the issue is that until recently most arab nations where always using weak weaponry often 10 to 20 years old that just didnt help them much , they can try good tactics and skilled maneuvering that can make any western ace clap for them but the weapons just didnt help . on ground too , a syrian tank guy veteran complained in a documentary how their tank assault on golan height was perfect and organised but their tanks were just too inferior in range , they were sniped at 3 kilometers while they can only fire at 2 or less . an israeli veteran who also was one of those sniping the tanks confirmed this story by saying that the syrian tanks couldnt fire back from such range even though the syrian assault was on paper unstoppable. the soviets counted on a 5 or more to 1 advantage with such weapons in the cold war to hide such weakness , they didnt make those weapons for a 1v1 or 3v1 but for a 5 to a 10 v1 like in ww2 . so for the arabs to use their weapons in a 2v1 or 3v1 almost made them deal only 30% damage and recieve 70 except in few occasions like egypt in kippur where it was like 45% to 55% . between iraq and iran things were more equal so both sides kinda broke some records and even made the west learn few tricks to apply like how azerbeijan did recently with its drones

Hello everyone... After this incident that two Tomcats were targeted by Iraqi Mirages, which was done with sneaky flight tactics, and this never happened again, because after that incident, the Tomcats always had one or two F5 Tiger 2 flying under them. F5s were protect Tomcats from sneaky tactics attack from Mirages and other Iraqi planes, and later F5s were also protected by Tomcats!

Too bad that AERGES hasn't develop the Super Matra 530F yet and the only available missile is the plain Matra-530F. The new version of the missile was available for the French air-force ( Armée de l' Air ) since the year 1978.
