Freightliner Cascadia DD15 PM-Service. Servicing the oil and oil filters before touching the fuel filters.
It is important to start the engine first in order to verify proper oil pressure, then you can begin changing the fuel filters

I always take off the fill cap and oil filter, drain the oil while they're off to increase the flow rate. Then I complete the water separator and fuels after it. All without starting it up. Just takes some pumping to get it to start up.

Thank you for making this. I’m tired of being robbed at shops and tires of being lazy. Very easy how to that all of us are capable. My only question is how many gallons come out when yuu drain. This is the only thing that keeps me from doing it myself. If I can fit a 5 gallon bucket under it and switch out when the one get full I’d be ok.
@CarlosDieselElectric
@CarlosDieselElectric 2 года назад
I would recommend to purchase a oil drain pan that can hold at least 15-20 gallons. The amount of oil that comes out is approximately 10 gallons. I strongly recommend you drain the oil, remove the oil filter FIRST. Then replace the drain plug crush washer. Install your new oil filter and then add the 10-11 gallons of the correct motor oil. Start engine and allow the oil pressure to go up to 60 psi. Let it run for a few minutes. Then turn it off and proceed with the fuel filter change. Always do the oil change first. NEVER do the oil change and the fuel filter change at the same time.

Why do the oil change first then the fuel filters?
@CarlosDieselElectric
@CarlosDieselElectric 2 года назад
@@carlosberrios1021 great question, this is done just in case you have a oil pressure issue. So, if you change the oil and fuel filter at the same time and you go to start the engine. There will most likely be a hard start situation and by the time the oil pressure rises and the fuel rises enough to start. You may have a main bearing or rod bearing spin and lock the engine due to lack of lubrication.

I have a question Carlos. What’s the difference or the reason some cascadias have a fuel water seperator and others don’t? Is it better to have it or not.? Thank you.👍😎
@CarlosDieselElectric
@CarlosDieselElectric 4 года назад
Juan Aldape the fuel water separator is just an added level of protection to help make sure you get clean diesel fuel. It is supposed to help remove the water from the Diesel before it reaches the main fuel filters. Now why some trucks have it and others do not? I am not sure. I have seen many Cascadias with and without.

I bought a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia from Penske. I'm not sure they used full synthetic or synthetic blend. 15w 40 or 10w 30? I know one is thicker than the other...will it effect engine performance if I mix them unintentionally?
@CarlosDieselElectric
@CarlosDieselElectric 2 года назад
They probably used a synthetic blend. Depending on the year of the truck it might be 10W-30. Call your local Freightliner, give them the last 6 of the vin and they can tell you which oil to use. If you mix them you should be ok. But try to stick one full synthetic of synthetic blend. All depends on how you drive your truck. Long haul or local.

is it neassary put oil into oil filter ?i think just in gas filter we have put desial.not into oil filter?
@CarlosDieselElectric
@CarlosDieselElectric 5 лет назад
Afg not for the DD15. The oil filtration pushes oil from the inside out. On a spin on filter you do prime with clean oil like a Series 60, Cummins ISX, CAT or Volvo D13.

@djpaco951
@djpaco951 2 года назад
I changed the oil by my self for the first time, I put 10 gal plus 1 gallon of Lucas, I checked the level but the dip stick doesn’t show anything, I add 2 more gallons I checked again but still dip stick doesn’t show anything, what I’m doing wrong?
@CarlosDieselElectric
@CarlosDieselElectric 2 года назад
I have had this issue before, the 11 gallons for a DD15 is the correct amount. I found the dipstick is correct but the dipstick housing or tube might be the wrong one. Depending on the year of your truck there are two dipstick tubes available. One of them is about 2 inches shorter. I swapped it out and everything measured correctly. Try looking at the tube on your DD15 and look for a part number. Then go to your local Freightliner and see if they have a different option. I’ll check to see if I have the part number for you.

What is the best oil filter for dd15?
@CarlosDieselElectric
@CarlosDieselElectric 5 лет назад
Karla Cobian I recommend sticking with the original lube filter, you can save $5-$10 going with an aftermarket like WIX, Baldwin or Fleet Guard. I have always used the OEM or Hengst and it has proven to be reliable. Using a premium motor oil with a good oil filter you can maximize your mileage in between oil changes. Hope this helps
@warrenside5000
@warrenside5000 5 лет назад
Why do you put a extra gallon of oil in the dd15 motors
@CarlosDieselElectric
@CarlosDieselElectric 5 лет назад
Because of the size of the engine. It is a 14.8 liter engine so it requires about 1 gallon more then the old 12 liter Detroit Diesel engine which used 10 gallons.

The order is incorrect for this oil change. You are supposed to change the oil filter first then drain the oil. That way everything flows out with the old oil including any debris that might get dislodged or fall down into the oil pan. :)
@CarlosDieselElectric
@CarlosDieselElectric 2 года назад
Fair enough, I pull the drain plug and then the filter. But I appreciate the input 👍🏼 always nice to get another point of view.

@@CarlosDieselElectric Just to clarify this is per the manual. You did a really great job on the video and have helped many people doing so. Keep it up!
@CarlosDieselElectric
@CarlosDieselElectric 2 года назад
@@deadvirusllc506 I try to keep it all by the manual. Manual says, oil change first. Start the engine to verify oil pressure goes up. Then shut it down, wait a few minutes to allow the fuel pressure to bleed. Then proceed to replacing the fuel filters. You may need to prime the fuel system using the small hand primer pump. Never do the oil change and the fuel filter at the same time. This is to prevent any engine damage in the event you have a hard start or long cranking situation and the engine may not get the oil it needs in time. I have heard of guys seizing an engine after an oil change. I would hate that to by my shop. So I always stick to the manual.
@deadvirusllc506

@@CarlosDieselElectric That is correct, for changing the fuel filters. Not the oil filter.
