Every character that is bought for $50 could be a brand new console/PC game. A couple character bought equals out to a brand new PS5/ Xbox console. INSANE!!
It is, and sadly I do it. I am the perfect person Scopely tries to get their claws in. I am a recovering addict of 10 years and have tried to leave the game multiple times, but just keep coming back because I'm in that cycle. I have been trying to spend less and expand my steam library which is way more fun. Some of us have a really hard time letting go, especially with the god awful sunken cost fallacy. The sad thing is that Scopely have screwed up the game so much and gotten so unreasonably greedy that even someone that struggles with addiction and has the free money to spend, is fed up. Just hearing someone say Captain Britain makes me want to delete my account after how utterly useless he ended up being, even at high star levels.
Unfortunately we the players are who set the market. I’d love to know how the early games set their prices and how people went along with it. If nobody buys it, they would have to lower prices or go out of business. But there are people with so much money, they don’t even care if things are a good deal, I guess.
The "meaningful" and "engaging" stuff that's just "a slot machine"-- It is so true that "events" and whatever are not events and just junk anyway (but not even worth caring about now usually). They are not really a game. The game is about building characters and using them! That's what the actual players want.
Its so true, there is nothing to farm for me but gold or mats. Most of the stores I just skip over without even looking. All the events just feel like chasing the red dots from milestone to milestone. There is no engagement at all, I feel myself logging in less and less.
And that’s exactly what you do. Thats all I spend my energy on and nodes that help me upgrade characters that YOU want upgraded, not what the game wants you to.
Completely agree about $80 a month expensive to play a game. The new toon releases here in Canada cost 69.99 + digital service tax and so on, final cost is over $80. Plus ALL of the EXTRA that Scopely is expecting us to spend on. This is insanity
Scopley, please listen to this. We love your game. WE WANT TO SPEND MONEY ON IT!! However, when you make it seem like we are morons and don't realize what you are doing it makes us not want to spend on your game. I have no doubt that the trends of the past 12-18 months will bear this out. MobileGamer states this clearly at the end of his video. Players were COMING BACK! New players were coming in for the first time and really enjoying the game. Then you did what every moronic company does, you said "hey, our game is doing great and our player base is happy and engaged. Let's fix it!!!!" Please, please, please, listen to what your customers are saying.

I understand that they understand that when you raise prices, the whales and krakens will cave and buy it. However, that has a breaking point, and people will slowly trickle out of the game, as shown by MobileGamer in videos prior. It would be a much better, more sustainable business model if they had low or even medium prices, which would cause more people to spend, but more importantly, if other aspects of the game were improved, people would be happier, and more likely to spread the news about this game, creating a potential new spender. No one is going to tell anyone about this game now because no new player would have a good time playing it. Plus, those aforementioned whales and krakens will still spend just as much money, because they are getting even more resources. It's an artificial currency; they can make the resource/dollar rate much more player friendly. If a player notices a good deal, they are going to buy it! Players will also feel better about spending, because people enjoy doing things they want to do, but they don't like being made to do stuff. It really makes you wonder the intent of the people that own this game. Do they actually care about the game, play it, and want to create a long-lasting fun time, or are they just in it to get back their investment as quickly as possible, trying to leech as much money off of as many people as possible, until the game withers away into obscurity? I hope it's the former. As a player who has been in the game for 5 years across 3 different accounts (I lost my first 2), I hope the game sees the revitalization we thought it was having a few months ago.
They started to move to just a slot machine game when they gave us sims for blitz and raids. The players wanted to sim these modes because it was super repetitive to do the same blitz battles and same raids battles that most players just did the same sequence of moves for months at a time. That needed simming. What the players wanted was/is other game modes that gave us a puzzle like the first few seasons of CC before they started putting out CC teams it is became very prescriptive. The money people at Scopley do not know how to create a well balanced and engaging game and they do not let the actual game developers make a good game.
I used to play the walking dead rts. They were at the time charging $100 for a chance at a new toon. I was fairly new to the game and a big WD fan that I figured I'd give it a try. Bought the offer and never got the toon. I bid farewell to my alliance and deleted the game. This is in relation to scopely moving towards a "slot machine" direction. This is definitely the closest scopely has ever reached in regards to putting the game in danger. If they know what's good for them, they will definitely go back on this. If they continue on this path then eventually it will be spenders facing spenders and they will not be able to feel the "advantage" that they are trying to implement. Everything they have done will then be made pointless.
I think the community needs to come to the realization when it comes to "what is good for the player" doesn't matter. Scopely is a company, and companies don't have morals. They aren't thinking entities that you can reason with or appeal to their humanity - because corporate entities don't speak that language. The ONLY (and I mean only) language that companies will EVER understand is money. They don't care how you FEEL at all, only how much you are willing to spend. They will repeatedly boil the frog until you just accept the new norm as long as you keep supporting the game in ANY way monetarily. Any game that requires you to spend a car payment every month to even get the characters UNLOCKED (not maxed out) is insane. Do people just not stop and think about what other gaming-related activities you can do with that sort of money? That's a BRAND NEW AAA GAME every single WEEK. Do people really see the value proposition of a 3-star Gladiator unlock being worth more than something like Space Marine 2 that just launched and is an incredible game? Are you going to tell me that you will get more enjoyment out of your 3-star Captain Britain than you would 5 FULL PRICED GAMES? What krakens and whales like is the same thing they get out of real life - stepping on people below them. There is no inherent value in the characters themselves, it's simply about out-competing people who don't spend as much, and Scopely has weaponized that into screwing both paying AND F2P players. The only way to win in this situation is to just stop spending entirely. No passes, no cores, nothing. Otherwise they will keep slowly moving the goal posts until every single player has to spend $300/month or just not be able to play current content. Do people think that this new BattleWorld is going to swoop in and save F2P/light spenders? They're going to pay gate that even worse.
Even the Ares battle pass is trash. These passes used to be over 20m gold, sometimes close to 30m. The latest one is < 20m gold, generic crimson gear that's rapidly losing its value, and training materials which for many players are irrelevant (I'm over 10k orange materials now... gold is the only bottleneck)
I don’t think they have ever been that much in terms of gold. Once or twice they had a special pass that had a little more, but even then I don’t think it was that much. Lots of players with rose tinted glasses on, it’s always been poor.
Its different player to player i started 4 moths ago and i am dry on training mat and have enough gold but i agree battle passes dont feel like they have a 20€ value
Good one boomer. I was $10 a month player on average turned to be pass or strike buyer consistently at $80 a month but now zero a month for scopely. I can’t speak for everyone but that just me. you voiced out my feeling no appreciation from scopely when they need player like me to increase my spending beyond $80 so they are getting zero from me. WHALE HARDER YOU PEASANTS!!!!
They are slowly going to end up like Marvel Avenger Alliance. That game lasted for a while until it was cancelled. They even had better characters and still died.
I gotta say, I find it funny that the complaints are all around how much the BATTLE PASS buyers are getting screwed, people who were quiet when buying the battle pass meant they got extra stars on legendaries, a couple extra ranks in arena/crucible that FTP players couldn't. Absolutely it's bad, as a FTP player the chasm is just going to widen between me and others now, it's just funny
Dont over spend on this game Just spend on whatever necessary. Time is gold. Over spending not gonna stop u from keep spending. Eventually it will lead u to gambling habits
I came back to the game after taking 9 months out, around the S6 reworks. I bought all the battle passes which helped me catch up and it felt like the game was in a good place. I get around 400/450 cores daily and if I'm having to core every character then I just dont know how long it is sustainable with the amount I get.
Skipped Sentinel and bought Warhammer Space Marine 2. Great game so far. Also skipped the last 2 passes for the first time since they started passes. Thats $100 they could have had from me but I am done. Ill go back to real gaming. Because Scopley has show me that even $200 to $300 means nothing to them. And im fine with that.
80$ isn't enough and many people are realizing it. They are gonna lose a lot of "light" spenders and all players from frustration with these changes. I play other games like Fortnite and for 15$ A MONTH, I get the battle pass, 10$ in v bucks, a free skin and ANOTHER battlepass for another game by epic. (rocket league).
An “event” supposed to be something different than the normal gameplay not battle in raids which we do every day not play a war battle which everyone does not play a CC match or arena these are just normal gameplay which we do on a daily basis they are making it over complicated just so people would say fine all just buy an offer instead I would invest in a hobby on my own term not what you demand us to buy so have access to your boring events which in my stage of the game I can finish it with auto basic Their greed what made it finally for me to stop spending since I bought anti venom way way back and never stopped buying character offers…well scoply you finally made me stop Thank you
For $80 you can buy Elden Ring and play it for 200 hours. People who spend on Mobile Games have conditioned themselves into thinking that it's completely reasonable to spend insane amounts of money to get barely anything.
Except slot modern machines can be fun. Here it's just a button push and an instant pop, there's no fun aspect or sweat around it, and no "line" pays here either. So they've even made a bad slot game.
it was either a year or two ago the evnts were super convoluted and stupid and scopley listened to feedback and dialed it all back. its been creepiong back up and has become stupid again. who enjoys this? makes the game so convoluted and stupid
Anecdotally it shows how worse off the game economy has become, this will be the first time ever for me a new DD has dropped before I've finished the previous.
They see a finish line. Their running extremely low on interesting characters and are about to start running on fumes, all that remains are B and C list heroes and obscure villians 90% of the player base won't recognise. How many Tony Stark's and Norman Osbornes are too many (technically currently 4 of each)? Other mobile games have gone down the same route when they see their time is starting to come to the end, they completely knuckle down on the spenders, wringing every drop of blood they can get out.
people need to stop spending, the only way to get the point across now is massive profit margin losses that would force some layoffs or restructure to the dev studio. people are going to have to lose some jobs at scopely for the the game to get better
think about what $80 buys. For battle passes? That's fucking wild and the fact this has been the norm, I can't help but say I'm not surprised with them trying to milk yall for more. Players have already shown they will pay an insane amount for passes. In a gaming landscape where $10-$20 has been the norm for battle passes, yall have been paying 4-8 times MORE than what the gaming landscape has set as reasonable.
Very convenient that the campaigns are still there cause I *just* got 100 shards of gorr from the thanos orbs only to find out that the milestone for gladiator is already gone so I won't have him for however long it takes for his shards to be available F2P
When Scopely was bought I said this would happen. They snuck in some great changes so people thought awesome this game is gonna get better… then hit the bait and switch on us. 4.9 Billion is a lot of money and they were always going to want returns on that investment… sooner rather than later… and here we are today. Why do you think they stay in the cycle of shitty idea, massive outrage, minor tweak to shut us up, and repeat. It’s never gonna change now. This is the way from here on out. Unless a massive number of people quit. I agree though its a slot machine now but you can buy your way around it if you can afford to.
I hate what Scopley are doing, like REALLY hate it. But all these self important people on Reddit who think they know need a good look at themselves. Do they really think Scopley don't spent a LOT of money researching exactly how to make as much out of the community as possible? It's funny you said it's not a game, just pushing buttons and collecting things. My wife was playing monopoly go last night and said she was bored and didn't understand the appeal cause all she did was push buttons and collect things. She said the game played itself and she just watched. Sounds like what they're moving to here for some reason
Is it just me or does this new Battle Pass have less dark promo credits? It seems like the gold is a little bit lighter too, or am I missing something.
I feel kind of bad. I think I may have inadvertently started the whole $80 is a low spender thing. I just meant relative to other spender in msf, not low spender in general or in the real world.
For the first time in a year I am not buying a pass. I am a previous F2P adjacent player that converted to a pass buyer. I am not going to now convert to a Pass and Character Offer purchaser. Scopely has not gained the $150 a month they think they can get, but rather lost the $80 they already had.
Getting the 1-2 shards during the phase 1 "meaningful progress" portion feels so insulting that I would prefer to just be given zero shards the entire month, just put more in the event, this progression feels like SHIT and it's ruined this game for me. I'm fully checked out and have muted my alliance discord and have zero interest in even fighting for the game to get better, I just want to be replaced so I can quit.
Been pay to win since beginning, turning to pay to play… $80 just for passes to keep a float is bullshit…. Game feeds addiction.real time shit since launch, blitz is horrible, war is garbage and crucible is only around for creators to get clicks on boring ass videos and pay bills. Besides kats editing all others same old bs, marvel suck force isn’t worth a dime. Hope to see the creators finding a new source to create from
