Er valt niet te ontkennen dat de klimaatcrisis invloed heeft op alles om ons heen. Ver over onze grenzen, maar ook dicht bij huis zien we een toename van extreem weer. Beelden van overstromende rivieren en bosbranden kennen we, maar wat betekent de klimaatcrisis eigenlijk voor onze eigen gezondheid? Nu en in de toekomst?
Teams van Artsen zonder Grenzen zien op dit moment in verschillende landen de impact van de klimaatcrisis op de gezondheid van mensen. Zoals in Tsjaad, waar droogte tegenwoordig langer aanblijft en het aantal kinderen en volwassenen met ondervoeding ongekend snel oploopt.
Welke gevolgen van klimaatverandering op de gezondheid zien lokale en internationale organisaties? Artsen zonder Grenzen gaat hierover in gesprek met andere NGO’s, klimaatactivisten en specialisten.
The impact of the climate crisis.
The impact of the climate crisis on people's health is already visible in different countries. In Chad, repeated droughts have affected the country's agricultural productions. The number of children with malnutrition is rising rapidly. In the drought-ravaged Horn of Africa people are in desperate need of clean drinking water and medical care. Measles and cholera are spreading fast. Last year, South Sudan faced the worst floods in 80 years. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their homes and malaria cases peaked, just as waterborne diseases. Extreme weather events also occur closer to home. Droughts, storms and floods have hit several EU member states, heightening concern across the continent.
A health crisis.
During the event we will welcome several interesting speakers on stage. From activists to humanitarian organizations and climate scientists. We will analyze the climate crisis from various angles. What will the consequences be for our own health? What are we already noticing? And what will we encounter in the future? And of course: what actions are required right now?
