Just a simple straight forward dead baiting session for pike on the local river targeting slacks and snags to find the fish with a bit of stalking too. Using a simple dead baiting float setup and dead roach as bait.
yep! Try out the swims that are inaccessible to all but the most intrepid anglers. Standing up to yer nads in a cold river surrounded by jaggy branches and snaggy bushes is the way forward. Great video and proof again that something as simple as changing the orientation of the bait in the water can bring fast results. Good Stuff. Oh, yes while I remember, when you open your bags of Roach deadbaits or whatever, leave them in the original bag and put the whole thing into a ziplok , extra insurance against rancid roach juice leakage. Cheers
You really do make it look easy!! I was thinking about using actual fish instead of lures so now I've seen your video its given me the confidence to try it out. Thanks & tight lines for your next outing.🎣😎🐟
Cracking session Chris love your Pike husbandry. In experienced anglers have no idea that these fierce looking creatures are actually big softies and need correct gentle handling.Your skills are top notch and like mine self taught by experience. Also how many pikers take nackered traces home ?,iv seen them in bins ,bags and banksides.Take all your crap home recycle hooks and swivels and bin the junk.Very well done bud a masterclass.Stay safe buddy.Tony
@@oliverblair5664 I'm sure if you message or ask Chris he will give you the exact details.I use Shimano Baitrunner reels and Abu and John Wilson six shooter which has had s twenty on it great fun.All the best.
I really like watching your footage and I am delighted with your skill and imagination. you have proved that it is not the expensive equipment that is crucial, but skill and knowledge. I am from Zemun, it is a town in Serbia, on the river Danube ... it would be an experience to go fishing with you. great greetings and respect from Zemun Gagi
Hahaa, can’t believe you bit it to open it, what a dedicated Pike Pro, the Sprat juices are what makes dinghy fishing interesting in 30 deg summer sun ☀️ 🤣🤣🤣😝♥️♥️♥️
@@sheppeyfishtales I have heard that when you catch a big one, it is supposed to be really cool. Don't fish them myself, more of a Perch and Pike chap ^^. Caught me 2 new PB Pike in a 4 day period. First 10.2kg and second 16.08kg Fun fish as hell :D
@@sheppeyfishtales You can see it on my instagram. It was not a fish I thought I would find, since I was not even looking for it ^^. instagram.com/kristianbjorkenstal/
Your countryman, Graeme Pullen, is maybe the greatest devotee of dead baiting for pike.... He can really make those sprats do a dance. But youre catching up. Love to see it, and you doing it! PS does anyone ever eat the pike? David S Carolina
Nice to you using a “classic” method! I notice you don’t use anything to increase the scent trail such as an injected oil or a couple of slashes in roaches side? Your river is so clear the pike must be hunting on sight a lot of the time, the River Wey where I fish is just too murky to rely on sight only most of the time so use I will use both options to increase my chances. I wish it wasn’t dirty so I could enjoy pike spotting 😁👍🏻
hello ginger nice to see we all like catching pike of all sizes enjoyed your vid have you ever fished the river crossens southport mid twenties at the back drain you would have a ball eel man
Hey mate , your fish look far bigger to me than your estimates , unless the camera is making them look bigger who knows 🤷thanks for the upload, I prefer the lures though 😉
Sizes seem about right give or take a pound, think it still quite early in season he's fishing so they haven't really filled out and packed the weight on for spawning (or are just jacks)
Love the videos Chris, hope you’re elbow heals asap 👍 Noticed you don’t use any weights on your deadbait float set ups, do you have any issues with frozen deadbaits floating and if yes how do you overcome this? Thanks
My fav. way to rig a dead bait is use a wire as a needele and let a hook sit in the moth of the roach. So the wire through the mouth and all through the fish with the leader and attatch the pike leader to the mainline. The hook is often a single.
Chris , you seem to be very conservative with your weight guesses or maybe the Camera makes em look bigger? , lovin your vids , went to the R Dane for an early fish other day around Middlewich , there are a few small pike but the Chub are very aggressive and I have yet to take my 3 rd Pike from this pretty little River in ten years !but had Chub to 6 lb [most about 2 to 4 ] a big Grayling on a Mepps must have been 2 lb. Your River is also a pretty River, looks very much like the Dane, what is that river Chris ? not asking for a fishing mark just the name of it, Small rivers always pique my interest .Nice Handling too Chris , the Pike often get a rough deal when being handled although education is turning the Tide on fish welfare methinks
How do you know where the good places to fish are, like when you look at the water how do you know where the fish live, can you make a video about that?
Never had a pike on dead’s. My pb 20lb 9oz ( in my profile pic) I caught on an 18cm savage gear line thru roach in bream colour. Need to catch one on dead’s
He de-barbs all the hooks bar one on each treble . These are the two barbs he puts into the bait to stop it coming off when casting . Most people who use trebles when dead baiting use this strategy . I dont personally use trebles but they are extremely effective for pike fishing .
Be interested to hear if anyone is doing on dead bait currently... been dead recently, live on the door step of the river (Ouse) . Couch fishing this time of yr dead bait out on bite alarm .. had nice 12lb last week nothing since tried different stuff , wonder if the change in temp is to blame ?!
