Goro Miyazaki is so tragic, tbh. He didn't want to make movies. He wanted to be an architect. He spent his teen years wishing to become an architect. He went to university to become an architect. He designed the Ghibli museum. Then his dad said "Son, can you join Tales of Earthsea as an architecture consultant, as a favour to me?" And then, of course, the whole staff is excited to be working with Miyazaki's son. They push him to do some storyboards, and, you know, he wants to meet their expectations, and drawing is important for architecture so it's not like he doesn't know how, so he does some storyboards. Then the producer likes the storyboards and pushes him to _take over directing the whole thing._ He doesn't want to, but the producer pushes, his father pushes, and he doesn't want to let his father down. He directs the movie, and it's a huge flop, letting his father down. Now he's "the bad Miyazaki" and he keeps trying to redeem himself rather than just going back to architecture and letting his father stay disappointed in him.
Fwiw I actually loved the tales of Earthsea movie. It may have been a commercial flop and upset the original author, but it had a lot to say and said all of it well.
@@SupremeFenix274 Oh he absolutely could. But don't you think he could (and would) come up with something like this to either: A) Forward some long term diabolic plot. B) Assert his smug superiority over the masses and make a few more bucks. C) Troll any number of superheroes (most prominently Superman of course, but I could see it being done to drive Batman nuts looking for the plot) D) All of the above.
He will continue to remain Beej forevermore... At least until he loses that final sword duel, and the Beejening is transferred to another Beejlander. ♪Heeereeeeee we are! Born to be Kings! We're the Princes of the uuunniiiveeerseee!♪
Could you imagine how a tongue and cheak game review written to the length of a checkpoint segment with a vague Norwegian coroner out of ten would land for the audience.
Beej is absolutely right about his Sonic shipping discourse. And yes, seeing people make memes of Vincent sleeping in his coffin until February 29th is great.
Found out today the Revali's voice actor shares Revali furry art on twitter and this is the most on brand thing I've ever heard. It made my day. I love it. You just know he'd be in the comments of any femboy link art online and he'd be absolutely vicious.
Shadow is not a psychopath. He's misunderstood. And that's not hyperbole. He's actually wildly misunderstood by a ton of people. He's a fundamentally good person. He's edgy and a tsundere, but he is actually a hero canonically who has helped save the world many times at this point.
Disagree because the entire point of Shadow the Hedgehog (the game) is that he could very easily decide to go completely evil and it would essentially not bother him at all. You don't see a Knuckles game where he decides to suddenly destroy the world as a valid choice.
The Sonic joke in this video easily enters contention for Top 10 funniest you guys have EVER done. And that's a big compliment because he's one of your favorite punching bags.
We've all come to the decision to treat anything Beej says about Sonic to be either a) The Lord's Gospel, b) pulled straight out of his lower intestine, or c) both.
Remember, we should all be working actively to change the dialog in our respective spheres. It's Machine Learning. Call it ML. Call it MacLe. Call it M'Learning and tip a hat. Just stop calling it AI. It AIsn't.
I remember someone arguing with someone else that the CPU opponents in a video game were not AI. But neither person had the vocabulary to express there's different kinds of AI. I hope we all collectively bolster our understanding about this area.
I had to stop the stream to comment when Beej started using Uke and Seme terms. (note: I haven't heard those words in probably over a decade, and I'm laughing in hearing you talk about Sonic in this way so passionately, so good job 🤣)
I would be wildly surprised if they did not have plans to make it be, and saw the way blockchain shenanigans were headed and noped backwards out of that particular discussion.
Nah, if you already have your own payment processing systems, it's a strictly worse decision to involve blockchain in any way, even before you consider all the other reasons that blockchain is a dumb idea for most real-world purposes. There's no component of it that comes out cheaper. The only case that might justify it would be to accept payments from people who are only willing to use crypto, but that's something you might do in addition rather than instead of, and it has its own set of headaches.
Honestly at this point I am happy to give up the term A.I. to machine learning. Artificial has too much conation of fake anyway, and going with something like 'Synthetic Intelligence' for what we refer to as True A.I. just sounds better to me.
my uncle had a texas interments 128k computer. we programed a game that was written by someone else called Hammurabi, that was early ai. it was so corny. just picked up on certain character strings to give responses...good times
SEGA were always surprising when it came to tech - they were often ahead of the curve. They even had working VR for the Genesis in '91-'92, though they didn't bring it to market due to motion sickness.
There's a difference between "some semblance of the idea as a product" and "a functional version of the product" and Sega has been far TOO willing to release the former as full priced designs.
@@Shoeboxjeddy Agreed, however in this case it actually was functional. It worked! But they didn't have the hardware to push it properly so they canned it. There are a few writeups on it available (I cannot link due to youtube link handling).
If I had 5 Norwegian øre for every time I've seen my art pop up on Checkpoint... I wouldn't have any coins, and I'd wonder why I'm in Norway in the first place!
Okay but I need to weigh in on sonic x shadow. If you're dominant in real life, like shadow is, sometimes you need to just dial it back and lay someone else take charge
4:05 "we were too scared of the future which is why the Sega AI Computer lasted 3 years and never left the Japanese market" *Beej-ier voice* That's not why The Wikipedia entry for "Fifth Generation Computer Systems" will give you a taste of where this came from, why Prolog, and where the saga it's a tiny part of fits into the lead up to the second AI winter
ahhh could we have held the final shot for like a few seconds, something about beej and graham leaving shot at the end would be so cathartic. honestly now i want that in every lrr video shot on a set
I look forward to the video of Beej plays video songs on the melodica. Personally I'm looking to hearing his take on Castlevania Symphony of the Night's bloody tears.
I know making stuff run _Doom_ is the meme, but to me the more obvious thing to do if you managed to program actual living organisms to serve as a computer with a black-and-white screen would be to run Conway's Game of Life.
I haven't heard the terms seme and uke in a long time, but also I haven't had the chance to hang out with people who would use those terms in a long time. Are they still the current terms?
Im picturing the game awards 10 years from now, Kojima's child is presenting the trailer for their first game, geoff throws to the trailer, it plays and they return. the camera is focused on kojima in the audience, he stands and walks out without saying anything. as quickly as he can geoff finds a roaming camera and goes to find kojima, he's smoking outside the venue. geoff asks what he thought "My kid.... Is not an adult yet"
So. The horrendous-looking Suicide Squad game both sells a super-special early access edition and has a premium currency in it? I suppose if it's definitely going to suck, may as well sabotage it on every possible level. Gamers need to stop putting up with this kind of thing, and start seeking revenge for it.
Ive seen some people doing multiplayer playthroughs of S. Squad and it doesnt look bad, runs well, varied fun traversal methods for different characters, and fun characterizations. Only seen a bit in, but doesnt look like a trainwreck from i have seen.
Speed runners will be asking to restore the game to the state where it auto completes... And they're right to! Imo in the current state of games, the preservation argument should extended to previously available versions of games. Think that's too complicated? Blame the industries current methods
