Great video. Mine died this week too, and before tossing all the bose away, I am gonna try to replace the power source since I cant repair the mosfets.... I really love my Bose, and I am not willing to pay now over 1700 for a new home theater array. Many thanks for posting this video. Regards
the display unit in my Bose lifestyle V30 has gone bad & hence the whole system isn't working .. can you let me know if I can use the existing jewel cube speakers & the subwoofer (Acoustimass module) with any other AV receiver like Marantz? thank you
Here is a little known fact about the these series of subwoofers. PS, 28,38,48 etc. Doesn’t matter even if it is labeled III. There are different versions of Amplifier boards in these units! And if you are looking for a replacement for the AV35 the older subwoofer versions will not work! Here’s why, they will not decode 5.1 properly. Commercials and some material will play on all 5 channels. But when you play a true 5.1 surround movie there will be no center channel dialogue. And I can clearly see the from the video, this amplifier board is very old. And will not work with a AV35.
Well, I have a Lifestyle 35 with the tell-tale blown resistors and hole in a chip. I have to decide if it's worth repairing or whether to just use the speakers as passive. Now with the Lifestyle 35 PSU, all the surface mount components are on the "top" side with the heat sink, so it would have to be removed. And it would make replacing the components annoying anyway as capacitors and transformers get in the way.
What component is responsible for these beaten sound?? I have two power obord boards one brings the heartbeat sound they second doesn’t do anything sound at all, and no power.
Mine just stopped working last night, seen a spark and a sound coming of the sub, not sure weather it’s going to be same issue, might need some more technical knowledge to do it. This process seems very complicated for me..
Do you know what Volts and watts the power supply produces, Thinking about just bypassing the inbuilt power supply and trying to find an external one that suits.
Hi Tom, Great Job. With your deep knowledge in electronics and audio, do you know if i can get PS18 sub working by connecting to my pc audio output by 9pin DIN Min to 3.5mm audio jack. Thing is i am trying to avoid using Bose Life Style Media center, because i am not interested in 5.1 audio, just listening to music in my home office. Please advice
In my case, i do not get 120v at the entry point connector J7003 next to the main power cable. I replaced the fuse and the varistor right next to it but still can't get 120v. Could this mean my amp still ok? Inpected the board around this area and not see any burn or crack.
Is there a way to check power with the PS28 III sub without the media center? All i have is sub and power cord. I did pull back panel off and fuse looks good and no sign carbon or overheating. For example if only the power cord in plugged in, will the AC lamps flash?
As far as I remember, no. There must be a signal coming from the mediacenter to turn on the sub. You would need to know the pinout of the little round connector in the back. However, there are two optocouplers on the power board, one gets its signal from the little flatcable, one is maybe for feedback. When I shorted the output of the one that gets its signal from the flatcable the controller circuit powered up. Sorry, can't be of more help. There surely is a way to test the sub without mediacenter but it's not something I really investigated
@@tomtechtod9200 That's right, according to Bose website www.bose.co.uk/en_gb/support/article/led-status-information-lsv-35.html there are must be signal sent from the console to turn on the LED on the bass module.
Hello, can you please tell me how I can delete the music of Bose Lifestyle 48 (Umusik)? I had once had keyboard shortcuts on the BOSE AV48 to do this. But I forgot, maybe you know? There is also a keyboard shortcut to organize the BOSE-Umusic after songs have been deleted, you also know the combination of buttons on the BOSE AV48 Media Center Greetings and stay HEALTHY
Hi, System is PS28 and the Board is 286612-003 no voltage at pin 12 of U101.300v available across C110,C111.Do i need to connect flat cable and 9 pin cable to media centre to power up. Any insight from any one is appreciated. Thanks
bose Acoustimass is making a hiss noise and most recently a fluttering noise while no audio is playing. I can shut down the source and it still makes noise. Sometimes it will stop. What is this noise? Any ideas?
Thank you for this video When I plugged my subwoofer the little light didn’t go on , is that mean it’s not connected or it’s an electric issue with the subwoofer ?
@@HecteckRV Bass module needs to be connected to both: power outlet and working console to turn LED on, please check Bose website: www.bose.co.uk/en_gb/support/article/led-status-information-lsv-35.html
Thank you for this. What’s the difference between bose lifestyle AV35 and V35. Anyone to help please as am not familiar with the two, but I was a bit interested in buying V35, and here am given a AV35 console. Can one help me knowing their differences? Your input will be highly appreciated
TomTechTod I disassembled the whole unit. fuse was not blown and the bottom of the pcb didn't look bad at all, and i didnt see any holes in the gate resistors. May there be another reason for not getting power, or would this be the only reason? is there somewhere i can email you and maybe talk in more detail. thanks
SaltyBunny turn off the power, make sure there is no voltage left on the main capacitors, put the multimeter in diode test. Positive lead on pin 3 of the FET, negative lead on 2, it should read the voltage drop of the body diode, about 500mV or something like that. You shouldn't read a short between any of the FETs leads either...
Hi there I have a bose lifestyle 5 and it's dead accept for radio through zone b. Do you think this may be the issue. I switched to the new remote and flicked it to zone a. Was getting no response accept for a definate click through the speakers in zone a when powering off.
Please Tom. I'm from brazil, the assistance guy doesn't find the values of the Mosfets. Did you have any Bose diagram? Or the mosfet description? Thanks! Victor
Sir I hope you could help with my bose companion 3 series 11 had some problem with bass. When the bass volume increase the system not respond and go silence. It look like bass had some problem when increase the volume of bass. Pls help to rectify the problem and give possible solution to repair thks.
Hi Tom how are you!? Thank you for sharing this video! Tom, maybe you can help me... I have a Bose Cinemate II The system has an auto-off function where after 30 minutes of not receiving an audio signal, it will power down... wonder if you can help me how can I disable thins on the hardware... I have ability in soldering if needed... thank you!!
Hi, I have a Bose Lifestyle 38 series 5.1 ch unit. The sub woofer is not working. When enquired, understood that the 'thermal resistor' in the power supply unit is gone. Can you pl help resolve this?
The proper term would be thermistor which could be either a NTC or PTC. I do not know where they could be located. If you want, take high res pictures of the boards in your sub and send them to my email, you find it in the about section of my yt channel. You will need at least a multimeter to troubleshoot...
Yes, first remove clips, then remove solder with solder wick or suction pump or heat all three terminals and once and pull it out. Then clean the holes and remove glue residues, put in the transistors, then the clips then solder the terminals.
TomTechTod well shit. I pulled the transitors out. I thought they were only plugged. I got all pieces replaced that you marked red, but I changed the transitors on my own. Put it all back together and now it don't work. The guy replaced the parts said he can't see the rings where the transitors should be in. Is there a chance to fix that somehow?
If you ripped them out without desoldering them it's likely you damaged the PCB. This board has at least two layers, so there are possibly traces ripped off the board (from the top layer). Certainly repairable, but not easy. I don't know what you mean by "rings". Is that the solder pads on the PCB? If they are ripped off, the plated hole that connects top and bottom layer is probably damaged too. As I said, it would be repairable but it will be a PITA
Hi, Is there anyway to connect my Bose 3-2-1 GS Series II system to my NEW Samsung QR80 TV. The TV has no Video-S connection and the Bose System has No HDMI connection, so I can get sound but NO video output....can you help? Thanks,
Hello, my farther is Blind and his Bose Sub woofer thing quit working... it's a PS 18/48 Series II Amplifier. Do you have a shop to repair it? He says it made a Crackling sound then quit. Please let me know, Helen
Hi I just repaired my power section of lifestyle 48 and was working properly untill rhe subwoofer was connected.Once after connecting the woofer.my woofer power section after 2 minutes again went dead. Mosfet was shot.can u suggest me what will be the reason.and the power ic l6598 was blown off As i checked the connector of the woofer which comes out with a connector shows 1.7ohm resistance. Can u suggest wat will be the reason
could be that the driving circuit was affected too when the MOSFETs were damaged. this is a tough problem to troubleshoot without an oscilloscope and at least part of the schematic. can't suggest anything else than thoroughly check the driving circuit of these mosfets
@@tomtechtod9200 hi i had found many diodes and mosfet of sot23 package which i had replaced.but all was ok..the card powered up and cube speaker were working properly.but once i connected the woofer.its blew off..is it the stereo ic responsible ?
no I don't have a complete schematic and didn't bother to draw one. Replacing the parts mentioned in the video + the zener and transistor should solve the problem. If they don't it's almost not worth continuing the repair...
First thing to do with water in electronic equipment is to disconnect from power, open it up and dry it as fast as possible. Leaving water on electronic baords will corrode vias, traces and electronic components. Then clean with alcohol and dry with compressed air or hairdryer. If traces or components are damaged, replace/ repair them.
Possibly. The longer the water stays in there the higher the risk of severe damage. First thing to do is to remove power then dry the affected area. Then look for corrosion of vias, solder joints, traces and component leads
Hello, looking for your help with this one please, Bose PS28iii is not working, no flashing green LED's. After watching your video above, I have found the following: all the components you talk about seem to be ok, and what I did find was one of the Amp IC's LM4766T has had pin two burnt open or blow open, I'll replace this amp but is there more to it then just that, as to why the green power LED's are not working please?
@@tomtechtod9200 Hello there i have problems with my PS28 III sub, could you please tell me where can i buy that circuit board card for it and do you know the part number? thanks
I've my V35 repaired and months later the bass module is not working. I'm tired with this Bose proprietary nonsense. I'm prepared to toss it away and buy a much better surround sound system with Atmos Dolby etc.
Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way. Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out. Look for signs that you are saved. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless!!!
Problem is that Bose placed all connectors under instead of back side. When cleaning woman rise in front subwoofer to clean of course all connectors on board will broke. I soldered and solved but its very bad that they use old pin connector for multicable. Too old.
