Making a worthwhile comment on Dead Can Dance is like stuffing a photon back into a star. No human can do it. What they make is called music, but it is So much more than that.
Lisa Gerrard and DCD exist between the veils, timeless, whispering ancient love songs, telling secrets of the mysteries. I had the rare privilege to see them in concert for their "Toward the Within" album in 1994 in Denver, CO. While their music lifts your feet to ancient dances, the solemnity of being in the present of the Sacred, cast a pall of silence over the audience. Never before or since, had I experienced this reverential experience of sharing space with the divine.
Thank goodness they didn't give up years ago when they started in a pub in Tasmania somewhere and where apparently heckled....they moved to london? is believe (from what I remember) rest is music legend. Courage plus conviction plus talent gifted from above
I saw that tour in SF. Sadly I can only say it was ok. Saw Lisa by herself, she just isn't a performer. Saw Brandon on his own some fifteen years later and he was brilliant.

I was very fortunate to catch DCD at the Paolo Soleri Amphitheater in Santa Fe NM in 1996 during the ‘Spiritchaser’ tour! OMG Transcendent! They were mesmerizing and I was tranced (no drugs, didn’t/don’t do them). At one point 2/3 of the way through the show with my inner sight I swear I saw an 80’ tall luminescent, bright white Angel standing right behind Lisa, pouring effervescent light into her which was vocalized by Lisa. No words for how beautiful her voice was. Afterwards I asked several people I knew what their experience was and many stated they saw this angel! What an amazing show, forever etched in my memory. Wish I could see them again sometime.

Since I was 14! I was listening to Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins and The Birthday Party at the time and when I found them I didn't know what to make of them initially. Something told me to stay with them, though, and I'm so glad I did!

Here's a band I hadn't thought of for maybe 30 years. I didn't even know this, they still, existed. Just saw it on the sidebar while revisiting some old Cocteau Twins. There was a period in my life when if a band was on 4AD, I was drawn to them. I know I saw them, at some point, but cannot remember when/where. Must've been around Realm or Serpent's, and probably the TLA. Maybe the Mann, or Troc? Anybody from Philly late 80's early 90's remember them playing and where?
When my memory is not betraying me I had the great pleasure to see them live in the 80th in the Hamburg Markthalle. I still like their musik and play it when I'm at my own and nobody disturbs.
Just discovered dead can dance from the s darko soundtrack after watching the film for the 3rd time from my own library. Spell binding. I do not watch television or listen to radio stations with mindless inane chat and crap news , only listening to classical music from my own collection for mant years. This magical sound will now join my world ❤

I remember buying their first album cuz my friend knew that i should. I had no idea being as unique as they were then that they'd last. They really began this type of tranquil otherworldly music.
whoa, I was just thinking about Dead Can Dance. This group and Enigma were two of many bands I listen to int he 1990's. I was thinking I need to resurrect some of their tunes for my new project, and BAMMO, google read my mind. whoa!

Lisa Gerrard, geboren op 12/4/'61 ... dit jaar wordt ze 60 ... haar stem is fenomenaal en het hoogtepunt van haar carrière was in de jaren '90, toen ik gekozen had om moeder te worden en muziek een hobby was ... nu ben ik 'in between lifes' - Karen koos voor een 'gewoon' parcours, Sophia zal invullen, waar ik geen tijd voor had en later zal men de twee levens als één zien, dezelfde opdracht met een rationele en een emotionele kant. Ik kan gaan klagen over het feit dat ik als persoon prematuur gebleven ben - ik sprak op het niveau van anderen, omdat het heel moeilijk communiceren wordt als jij iets weet, wat anderen nog moeten leren ... COMPLEX DENKEN ... daar komt het op neer - we moeten afstappen van de aangewezen autoriteiten, die door straffen de mensen incompetent maken, zo lijken zij bovenaan te staan ... dat wilt niet zeggen dat ik iedereen over één kam scheer, maar uit observatie blijkt dat we per definitie met z'n allen naar de ravijn geduwd worden en deze keer wisten zij dat er alternatieven waren, maar ze volhardden in de boosheid. Ik heb nergens houvast, want dit was een eenmalige kans om het over een andere boeg te gooien en weer zie je hoe gemakkelijk we in oude patronen vallen, want dan lijkt het een keuze, terwijl het resultaat nog nooit een compliment waard was. Ik keek naar een corona-optreden van Dead can dance en zag hoe haar gezicht veranderd was, op eenzelfde manier als bij mij - ik weet sinds gisteren dat het te maken heeft met 'in ketose' zijn - je zou verwachten dat we kilo's afvallen, maar de vetcellen slorpen water op en je krijgt eigenlijk een soort van schijnzwangerschap. Mijn lichaam is al even koppig als ikzelf, het doet alsof ik zwanger ben, want dan ben ik sterker dan wanneer ik niet zwanger ben - het lichaam heeft een eigen geheugen en ik heb inderdaad al vanaf mijn zestiende een moeilijke relatie met mijn vrouwelijke vormen. Het is die dubbele boodschap, waar we van in de knoop geraken, heel veel afwijzingen, alsof we geen recht van bestaan hebben, maar dan toch dwepen met slogans als - je bent het waard. Enkel in deze 'staat' kan ik tanken uit de ka - maar er zijn kosten aan, ook al voel ik me een nijlpaard, ik MOET koolhydraten eten, om de stofwisseling gemakkelijker te maken, want de batterij is helemaal LEEG. Het maakt niet eens uit wat de aanleiding was, omdat het stapsgewijs gaat, maar het kritisch moment was wel de extreme burn-out in de herfst van 2011 - dat ik nog leef is een wonder, maar misschien hadden we deze keer een wonder nodig om te vertragen en ons bewust te worden dat alles wat wonderlijk is, juist heel eenvoudig in mekaar steekt. Als ik mijn zaakjes kan beredderen, dan ben ik een probleem minder, toch bleef men maar troep op mijn bordje gooien, waardoor ik Assepoester lijk, die in de bezemkast opgesloten wordt als de prins met het glazen schoentje het hele land af reist. Ik ben emotioneel een flatliner, maar herken het nog wel bij anderen, vooral mijn jongste zoon heeft een aangeboren psychologisch doorzicht, die hem een pak volwassener maakt dan zijn leeftijdsgenoten. Ik kan de zaken niet keren en de natuur heeft haar eigen manieren om de balans te herstellen - ik ben op de 124ste dag van het jaar 1960 geboren en daarmee begint ook het verhaal van mijn leven ... niet 'zomaar' een leven, blijkt nu!!!
