POST SHOW REVIEW:
Last night, Dead & Company continued their final tour with a stop at the Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas. The band, comprised of Bob Weir, John Mayer, Jeff Chimenti, Mickey Hart, Oteil Burbridge, and Jay Lane, delivered a spectacular performance lush with classics and favorites, leaving fans with a sense of appreciation and awe.
The first set kicked off with a soulful rendition of Sam Cooke’s “Good Times,” setting a vibrant and energetic tone for the evening. The crowd then erupted as the band transitioned into the lively “Hell in a Bucket.” Keeping the momentum going, Dead & Company paid homage to the blues with a cover of Cannon’s Jug Stompers’ “Big Railroad Blues,” captivating the audience with their impeccable musicianship.
Next came a combination of “Lost Sailor” and “Saint of Circumstance,” adding to an already magical atmosphere within the venue. The crowd swayed and sang along as the band gracefully moved into “Ship of Fools.” They rounded out the frame with the timeless “Brown-Eyed Women,” which was accompanied by the collective voices of the audience, before they concluded the first set with a vibrant performance, “The Music Never Stopped,” leaving fans eagerly awaiting the second half of the show.
Set two commenced with the electrifying “Jack Straw,” captivating the audience with its infectious energy and lyrics. The band then locked into a groove, seamlessly transitioning from Truckin'” into the heartfelt “He’s Gone,” allowing fans to reminisce and reflect. The jam melded into the enchanting melodies of Bob Weir’s “Playing in the Band” and soared even higher as “Uncle John’s Band,” as fans swayed and sang in unison, embracing the communal spirit of the Grateful Dead’s music. Hart and Lane then took center stage for an awe-inspiring percussion segment, followed by a “Space” exploration. The audience was taken on an auditory adventure, mesmerized by the band’s improvisational skills and cosmic soundscapes.
After returning to defined ground, Dead & Company launched into an invigorating rendition of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” before circling back to a reprise of “Playing in the Band” and then the poignant “Standing on the Moon.” For the grand finale, Dead & Company unleashed a rousing performance of “Not Fade Away,” paying tribute to The Crickets’ classic hit. The audience erupted into a sea of dancing and singing, fully immersed in the euphoria of the moment.
After a brief break, the band returned to the stage for an encore that was nothing short of magical - the iconic “Touch of Grey” resonated through the venue, uniting fans in celebration of the enduring spirit of the Grateful Dead.

Thank you for this. Dallas was my first Dead Show and I am so glad I was able to see this amazing performance Live. From walking shakedown street, to talking to other fans, it was truly a night I’ll never forget. To finish the show with a Touch of Grey encore was special. First dead song I heard 🩻🧸⚡️

But the best part was going to the show with my best friends from Highschool, who introduced me to the Dead

This conversation ruins the ‘tradeability’ of the recording but it’s only there because I allowed it to be because it’s my favorite part.

Hey you’re most welcome and thanks for listening! That Space > Watchtower segue is my fave part of the is recording because those ‘drunks’ were me and my friends that I’d been trying to link up with the entire concert but couldn’t because my phone was not getting a signal. One of them had sent me a pic of them so I was eventually able to find them but waiting until Drums to make my way up to the top of the lawn. I was ok with capturing those conversations because I know there’s always gonna be a clean soundboard copy in nugs… but this one is our unique copy! I find it pretty cool that we’d all been watching out and liking for each other the entire show… and we meet up during Watchtower. For me, It was the end of the road with Dead Co and a perfect ending to this phase of Dead Music. Those friends went on to see both shows at the Gorge and then on to SF for the three final shows this week. Make sure to check out set one on this channel as well… no conversations in that one lol… all recorded from the front of the lawn.

@@renegade.records Yea had already listened to the first set. I could tell y'all were vibing and happy to see one another lol. I was at this show so I think eventually I'll get a free copy of the official recording so I wasn't worried about the talking. Jealous that they saw the Gorge shows, and will see the SF shows. I flew in from New Zealand for my first and sadly probably last Dead&Co show, that being this one.

@@renegade.recordsSounds great! Do they still have a section for tapers, in front of the soundboard, taper tickets required..?! I'd think so, but I haven't seen D+C live. A big deal when the Grateful Dead were touring. Each taper usually had two microphones on tall stands, and whatever the newest equipment (from Cassettes to DET's in the 90's). Probably a 10 x 10 area of tapers (not feet), and they'd really get upset when someone nearby would scream, hoot, or holler. "Shhhh! I'm F'n taping! We're doing this for you!" (using body language), cause you never raised your voice around the taper section, lol. Always great sounding in front of the board. And while we could often get Soundboard recordings, the recordings made in the taper section would give a much better representation of the sound in that particular venue, that we in the crowd heard. Something you could never get from the board. But the Tapers would pick it up perfectly. The sound you remember! They seem to have a better sound, throughout the venues, all around, nowadays. This sounds great, but doesn't seem like it's in front of the board..?! Great clarity, all around. Thanks for saving this great show! 👍💯🔥🔥🔥⚡🎶⚡✌️

@@timturk1899 thanks for the kind words. I don’t see many tapers at any shows, dead and co included. I think I saw one taper at Hollywood bowl in LA a couple years ago… then again, I’m never really coming for tapers. This show was mostly recorded from the front of the lawn area closely centered between two stacks of speakers. Great venue sound is definitely more common these days but I’ve also seen drastic variations from one band to the next at the same show depending on who’s running the board. Some bands are adamant that their sound guy run the board during their set. Sometimes that’ll make for hit or miss sound.
