The funny part is that they made the actual show kid friendly, while you have this pilot referencing adult websites, including swearing, and generally having a sort of raunchy humor akin to Rick and Morty or the short entitled "manly".
This pilot is based on a series of graphic novels and the graphic novels really weren't for kids. To give you a hit what kind of tone they got, in the graphic novels Barney and Logs didn't have a wholesome relationship as Logs knowingly gave him HIV and cheated on him...yeah, you can probably figure out that the Netflix show is only loosely based on these comics now...
@@dork7546 Jesus Christ really? That's some really heavy stuff, I really had no idea that Barney or any of these characters were gay, but I think that's a nice touch! Although there's a lot more serious forms of media that tackle homosexuality or anything to do with LGBTQ and it's very nice to just have something wholesome for once. Although I am a little bit disappointed considering the fact that I love adult animation when it's done right and that show could have been something like that.
@@VeiledSeer "I really had no idea that Barney or any of these characters were gay," Barney: I wanna get off-line. Where should I go? God of the Internet: That way leads to the domain of the bare naked ladies. [Gestures right] Barney: That's not what I'm looking for. God of the Internet: Then the domain of the bare naked gentleman is THAT way. [Gestures left] Barney: (Laughs) Maybe later-- But I need to get OFF the internet. The pilot itself already gave it away.
@@asprinjuice425 Well Crunchyroll want HGS to be a mature show rather than a show for a younger audience, but most of it was done. The use of blood was actually corporate meddling.
coming back to this video after watching the first few episodes of the show & it's so weird how drastically different Norma is, mostly personality but appearance as well, from this video to the show (i haven't read the comic yet but soon :0) but i do love it so far! i'm sad that the animation/art style changed but it's a really neat show nonetheless :> edit: i have just finished it & WIWIWOWI ITS SO GOOD!!! imo it's a 8/10 but that's cause i'm easily entertained 🤯 idk if this considers as a spoiler but it was unexpected that Patrick Stump made the songs for ep nine (which is a musical) but it's really cool & the songs were so catchy & awesome,, it seemed like at the end, a second season will come into play so i hope that happens!!
Reading through the comments section makes me feel like I have poor taste or something. I liked it. It's a fun cartoon to watch. No its not as great as Bravest Warriors but some cartoons are meant to be just this. Dumb humor that should make you giggle.
Same I like it too it's not even that bad it's better than most cartoons on tv but this show still doesn't beat Bee and PuppyCat always will be my favorite but yea this is still good
For once, I'm actually glad the Netflix series decided to do a completely different art style. Might not have been so invested in the cartoon if it looked like this.
Agreed! This style is fun, but feels very aged. Reminds me a lot of Channel Frederator’s other work from this time (Bravest Warriors and Bee and Puppycat).
"that way leads to the domain of the bare naked ladies" "thats not what im looking for" "then the domain of the bare naked gentlemen is that way" "hehhehheh maybe later" ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I've watched the Netflix show 5 times and just discovered this is how it started. A lot of stuff starts badly and ends greatly or starts greatly and ends badly, I'm glad to see that dead end started greatly and continued in greatness forever
At least it surprisingly had one scene nearly too graphic for kids when the camera fell down the cliff XD Unfortunately, lots of companies see 'cartoons = kids' despite the existence of adult animation and are more likely to greenlight under those conditions for the age demographic.
@@Dante-Balisk Lol, I was surprised to see that, even when I'm such a sucker for Gravity Falls. Yeah, it sucks that people trying to get a more witty, uncensored type demographic, end up having to make it more sugar-coated and less plot-driven. But I think Dead End was executed quite well, and I'm glad it turned out to have likeable characters with flaws, representation that isn't stereotypical, and an actually decent plot.
I knew I'd seen these guys somewhere! I just finished "Deadendia: the watcher's test" and absolutely loved it, but while I was reading it I thought the characters looked familiar. Finally found out why lol! Also even if you didn't like this animation I'd recommend checking out the graphic novel that includes the same characters because they're a lot more flushed out and it's such a fun and interesting series.
Wow, this is a bit of a stretch from the Netflix series version, but all the best elements are still there. I'm actually pretty impressed with the direction they took for the rewrite, more kid friendly as far as netflix goes, but they managed to build a pretty compelling story line for the characters.
It's a pretty original concept. It had the usual funny and unpredictable timing and stuff that Adventure Time and Bravest Warriors usually have. Good job guys.
omg I remember watching this YEARS ago, and I'd completely forgotten about it! now that I've watched the entire netflix show, this popped up in my recs again and I was like NO WAY
I remember watching this video years ago as a kid and completely😱😱, wooow they really changed a lot for the actual show, good for Hamish steele pure genius😋😋👏👏
I'm honestly a bit disappointed. The characters were kinda relatable but not really that interesting. All they did was complain and sit around (Barney at least tried to do something but he didn't accomplish a whole lot either). But what really killed it is the humor. It's just stereotypical Internet-obsessed teens, a quirky talking animal sidekick, and butt/meme jokes. It feels like it's imitating the Adventure Time/Bravest Warriors style but without the fun characters. Looking forward to Cartoon Hangover's next shorts, though. But seriously, where's the sequel to Doctor Lollipop?
I think cartoon hangover is trying to create a visual branding with animation and character design style in the same way disney did in the 50's. If you look with a more discerning eye, you can see major differences, though, so they still allow creative diversity: just trying to draw the same crowd who likes adventure time (with fiona and cake) as for the flat characters: I believe they are satirical characters. what exactly it is they are satireing will become clearer the more we see of them. Personally, i feel like if the satire applies to me and is from a perspective I understand, I can really get behind joke characters like these and see their humanity through how they ironically present their ideas. UNLIKE family guy, where I can't fucking tell what the joke is, most the time. it's just too much bro fest writing, i guess. like that famous scene where peter and stewie beat the shit out of louise. what the hell was that? that's a rhetorical question, I literally don't want anyone trying to defend Family Guy.
farley pants I'll defend Family Guy here. You've taken possibly the worst example of writing, in the entire series, to represent the series as a whole. The newer episodes really aren't all that bad. Some of the episodes are actually pretty well-written in terms of storyboarding. The jokes are leaning more towards subtlety and anti-jokes nowadays. That beat-up scene you referenced is from so long ago, it's practically a dinosaur. Plus, the "humor" of that scene was intended to be shock humor. Like OMIGOD NO THEY DI'UNT
***** that short was made kind of mostly by the husbando + waifu team who did the baman piderman series, which I highly recommend. they just kick started the second season of baman piderman, so you can have all that to look forwards to! the story flow, cuteness and character cuteness and animation style will be similar, but not the art direction or color pallet. it's got a nice story to it, so make sure you watch them in order.
Is this going to be a series, cause of so I'm in! I really enjoyed watching this, with the new characters, and I think the animation style just adds to the humor.
CartoonHangover I personally would 100% love to see more of this, same animation, same voices, Same Humour everything was perfect. Please make more!!!!!
Extremely. Its a brand new show. Watch it before making kneejerk responses. Like even with the preview last week making it look like kinda crap, I still watched it first before coming to the informed opinion that its kinda crap.
Yeah this is def something of it's era. I'm actually surprised there's comments saying they prefer this over the netflix series. This is cute and im sure it was funny for its time but it's definitely something that looks like its relying too heavily on trying to be an adventure time copycat in style, tone and humor but with a slightly meaner more adult twist. I actually really love how fleshed out, fun and well developed the netflix series is.
The art style evolved so much compared to this pilot and the actual show. This one is way more expressive and creative, but the current one is more put together and more like a real TV show. I like this one better though tbh
I've heard this is like the beginnings of Dead End and looking at it it's fun to see how much they kept For example : Norma and Barney's designs didn't change much, and Pugsley's design didn't change at all Pauline's design changed a lot but she still has her accent and to some extent her original hairstyle The little red thing stayed, it can be seen at 4:35 at the bottom This is a stretch but I wanna say that the god of the internet was changed to be Hox to Temalucas (I don't know how to spell Tem's name) or perhaps will see that design later as (spoilers for Dead End the Netflix Series) in the end we see what is only presumed to be an angel, maybe the god of the internet will be the ruler of heaven for the series (with a redesign most likely tho) And I wanna say the Egyptian looking man at 4:53 is the (spoilers for Dead End the Netflix) alleged angel we see at the end of Dead End season 1, with a redesign ofc, that's a stretch tho And also that 4:53 again, the rest of the characters may have been used as some of the background characters in the show (mostly the demons) but of course probably revamped and redesigned
Gord (red worm thing) is a consistent character, but not the egyptian. I think the angel at the end of season one could be a re-concept of something from the graphic novel series (somewhat different story) also about dead end, and if I’m right, God help us.
I know this is late but I can't believe this minisode I saw on my 3ds when I was like 12 would actually get a full show many years later on Netflix (I was not expecting that). I'm glad it got a show tho, it goes to show that with a bit of patience, time, and imagination, wonderful pieces like this can spawn
I've been waiting all day for this to be posted. Loved it. I also paused the vid just to read the comments you incorporated. That "Where is Catbug" comment was golden.
I totally forgot about this video!! When I saw the thumbnail for it on youtube I instantly realized that this was the precursor to Dead end: Paranormal Park. I think it's incredible that I loved this short film when I was younger and to see it become what it is today!
3:36 the comment by AlwaysACritic was referenced in the Netflix series actually!! When they go to the hell gameshow the demon calls Pugsley a "snowman thing".
Wow, If Pauline didnt want anyone to see that life insurance add then she'd definitely hate that people are watching this... definitely not a flattering look for her. Also that line " if its a real hunting the house has a way of shutting it down" was clever but it made me die a little inside....
i'm coming back from watching the netflix series to say that pugsley with a british accent should have made it to the actual show this is a tragic loss /j
I love the random Rocket Dog Easter Egg Poster! This was a great cartoon guys! I died when she said, "I must own these buns, or these buns will own me!" XD you guys are great!
