Eau Claire Market used to be one of Calgary's premier tourist shopping destinations built-in 1982, People used to spend money on toys, birthday gift cards, crafts, bring their kids to spend time in the indoor playground, have a bite to eat at the food court, movie theatre, you name it! That revenue is gone now, so the city of Calgary has had to remove Eau Claire Market as that will be where the upcoming Calgary Greenline LRT will be going through. So they’re gonna have to remove everything in the old mall, and the greenline LRT will be replacing the underground Parkade at Eau Claire.
And if you ask me, I am not sure what the plans are in terms of putting in the new mall, so I believe it’s going to be open air. I know open air buildings is something that I’m used to when going to visit Hawaiian islands just to escape winter. 😂
