I went to the Walmart several times for Lego clearance. The mall seams abandoned. It is nice for you to drive a Jeep there. You will enjoy the road around the mall (especially the entrance at the back of Walmart) as off-road driving in the national park.

Back in the late 70s, early 80s, the mall ended at the old movie theater, which was on the side of where Walmart is. That new facade you talked about was an entrance, but there was also an entrance walkway into caldor instead of walking through mall to get to it. I forgot which store started the new part. Caldor, Apex and food court was part of expansion. Sorry I couldn't help much more, but I was only about 8-10 when it expanded. My parents took us to see Disney's Robin Hood a short time before they closed for expansion. Place was always packed when they reopened
