hey y’all, just a reminder of some things that you shouldn’t be feeling when you’re singing: -pain/discomfort in your throat -honestly, any feeling in your throat -tension in your neck, jaw, or face -vocal fatigue (losing volume, resonance, or notes off your range after singing) all of these are signs that you might be in danger of hurting yourself if you maintain this kind of technique. (and yes, with proper technique your voice will NEVER get tired!) this song’s really tough, so take care of yourself! make sure to completely relax everything above the shoulders. a good exercise is to do lip trills for the entire song a couple times through. if you can maintain the lip trill throughout, that’s a good sign.

When singing this DO NOT try to match how Sophie does it. It will damage your voice and it will hurt. Please take care of your voice EDIT: When I said don't do it the way she does, I meant don't use that amount of breath when trying to belt. It is incredibly damaging to your voice.

I already did. It doesnt hurt and its actually kinda easy! But after 5 times in a row thats when you start to fall apart. Luckily I do it 4 times instead so I dont start dying! Oh and tip for people reading this. If you are about to sing it and you have to cough, sing with that cough still there. It sounds stupid but works!

that is smart!!! everyone listen to this girl. i have been taking vocal lessons all my life sofia has been trained to sing it a certain way so it will not permanently damage her voice. I find this song easy by belting with no raspynes added.i tried once and got sick. so sing it your own way remember your voice is meant to be different.

I know people get upset when you don't belt the parts that the actors do in these songs but you shouldn't have to!! If you cannot do it DO NOT push yourself too hard as you can permanently damage your voice. Yes it is fun to belt but its also not healthy for your voice without proper training!! @@theaterkid6853 Ik I'm kind of late but I'm trained in singing. Warming up your voice is CRUCIAL. Remember to breathe through your stomach instead of your chest, this will help you conserve air in your chest and allow you to hely healthily. Just remember, belting shouldn't hurt. If anything, if you are belting properly, it should feel like you are doing almost nothing. Hope this helps!

guys, while singing......keep in mind soph was part of the ANNIE cast. don't push your limits, test them first and gradually build your range if you want to hit notes comparable to hers, but always using your voice. that's her voice, yours is yours, and she's a trained professional who has worked for years. you can reach this level with work, but please take care of your vocal chords :)

I have to use this for my musical theatre classes while in isolation. We have to do zoom calls and of course I chose to sing this song. As someone taking lessons and working on this specifically with my teacher, some advice she gave me was to mark in the rests in the sheet music/a printed copy of the lyrics and make sure you get those breaths in. The higher notes and belted moments can become really strained if you haven’t got your breathing in the right place and just generally good breathing technique. Sing it in your voice as well! Imitating Sophia not only could damage your voice but also stops you from being you!

If you do end up doing this, be sure to do what the rest of the comments are saying and don’t force your voice to sound like Sophia’s! If your voice doesn’t naturally sound like that, you could damage your voice if you don’t have the proper technique. And there’s nothing wrong with having your own “beautiful sound” that’s different from the recording ;)

If it doesn’t hurt you now, it definitely will later. Really, anything other than proper singing technique will hurt your throat. This is why artists like Adele have to take hiatus often. But this will definitely ruin your voice more than others, and generally speaking, “impersonating” people while you sing isn’t really the best choice.

Emelia Helliwell sing in your own style. She sings like this because she knows her voice and her limits. If you are only 11 your voice still has room to grow and if you try to sing it in the “deep throaty punky” style she does, you will over time damage them and not let them get to their full potential

Reminder when trying to sing this (or any other song where you’re listening to the cast recording for that matter) that the recorded singer has been practicing this song for months on end if not years!! Don’t be too hard on yourself and don’t push your voice if you’re feeling uncomfortable ❤️ Keep practicing!

Hey y’all! I just want to make sure y’all are singing safely! I have taken hundreds of singing lessons so i have some knowledge. So, i am a huge theater fan, and i have heard the original recording of dead mom tons of times. Please sing like yourself! Don’t hurt your voice by singing like Sophia with her growls, it can damage your voice. Instead, sing like yourself! I know you have a beautiful voice, so take advantage of that! Good luck!

All the comments saying ‘don’t sing how Sophie does you will damage your voice’ yeah... I probably should have looked at the comments fist. Had this plugged into a speaker loudly and absolutely belted it! Sounded great till my voice was destroyed and I’m here today (the day after) my throat killing and what do I do?... Plug in my speaker and belt the song out. Sounded like a dying cat

quick tip: blend your head voice and chest voice! it helps so much when trying to belt the high notes. it sounds just like it would if you used your chest voice but you are "cheating" it in a way, making it so much easier and safer for your voice! :)))

I usually sing this song in a really low voice because I had a low voice, not being able to belt even if I tried or not even being able to sing any high notes, but when I tried belting this and singing the high notes, I did great, I didn't mess up at all and my voice wasn't wobbly, it's actually really easy once you get the hang of it, I'm proud of myself
