This video is awesome! Thank you so much for this... We must find a way to resurrect this game in some shape or form... maybe I'll send an agent back in time to change the licensing deal! 😉
I actually bought the game this week off the back of this video - Also got the rulebook too. I've never played a Wargame before, but my son and I love the Terminator concept and this looks like fun. Also @ms_paints - thanks for all the vids - only just found the channel but love the content :-)
I brought the miniatures on sale from warlord games diet cheap ,I did buy the miniatures to use for a different set of rules but it was a project that I never got round to do. Shame this game was overlooked dose sound a good fun game.
alessio cavatore also designed kings of war by mantic games. he is a genius in many ways, but especially at distilling down complexity into straight forward rules so his games are quick and easy to play without sacrificing strategy. i also really enjoyed your video.
Also noticed there’s about 3 times as many listings on there compared to before the video went up haha. At least we can actually SEE how expensive the expansions are now.
Those first two movies handful of minutes on the future battlefields is cooler than the entire combined runtime of terminator salvation, genesys and dark fate. If the society collapse ever befalls us (I hope it doesn't but you never know) I hope it has an 80's aesthetic. Thanks for sharing this game big man.
Love this vid Dave. Really nice review of a none G.W game. Please do more of these. It gives everyone an insight into whether to invest into one of these games or not.
Someone else said it here already, but you’re great at dragging me out of my narrow youtube video types, slapping me across the face and saying “you’re interested in all this other stuff too!”. Cheers
Great video mate. I bought two copies of the base game when Warlord Games were having their warehouse clearance after the license to produce was stopped for River Horse. I think the original RRP was £80 a box or something and I picked them up for £10 each. Never saw Rise of the Resistance though...
Absolutely stunning video. I was taken by surprise that you will present the wargame. Of course, I own both games that you present here. Side note rise of the machines board game is actually pretty good dungeon crawl game, maybe a future presentation of this game also? Anyway, I feel a bit let down by the lack of support for this game as vehicles and game boards could make a solid future alternative wargame to 40k. Also, I personally find it difficult to discover stls for 3d printing except the spider tank on thingiverse. If anyone has any suggestions for 3d printing models I would be more than happy to expand this gem with new figures. Congratulations for this video, although I have watched many videos from you this particular one put a smile on my face, thank you for your content keep creating them.
Love this Dave! Can’t help but spot Battle Masters in your back drop… any chance of an episode about this? It was my first wargame/miniatures game as a kid! Used to love it! Come to think of it… might still be in my parents loft… 🤔
I wrote some articles on this game for Warlord back then. It is such a great little game, just a shame the film didn't do well, absolutely its major downfall. This coupled with some issues with the metal Terminators proved to be its undoing. Definitely worth a look though.
This is a great game that's easily overlooked. You can supplement your Resistance from all sorts of sources, but I'd suggest that the Project Z miniatures from Warlord and the Mars Attacks minis from Mantic scale quite well with the slightly smaller scale. I managed to pick up a dirt cheap Abrams tank model from eBay and any number of 1/56 models are available. In addition to the boardgame miniatures to supplement Skynet, there are slightly more pricey die-cast models out there. However, a T-800 infiltrator is an easy conversion to do by combining a resistance fighter and an endoskeleton, and a T-1000 can be made by putting silver bullet holes in pretty much any model.
yeah I got all the project z minis to supplement my resistance. Since the resistance frame is so small you really need plenty of head swaps, different bodies and weapons to make them look any good
My favourite thing to do with the game was the time travel element, it's fun playing in the future with pulse rifles etc but I was trying to stop a T800 in the 1980s with shotguns and uzis that made me love it, the vehicle rules were also great, honestly can't fault it.
I have watched this video so many times. I absolutely love it. You talked me into it. I bought it recently and I've been playing it with my son. So much fun!! Thanks Dave. I'm going to have a friend make me a Hunter Killer to beef up the Machine side.
Bought an ebay mixed lot years ago to get the lotr orc army in it. There were two original box sets of this, some wild west exodus models and a bolt action starter in there too. Recently painted a bunch of resistance for my son to use to play fallout wasteland warfare as one of the military surviving factions, and used the terminators as the evil android faction - for which they looked way more badass than the official models. Got a few of the metal models too, including some cops, a couple of arnies and a T-1000 Starting to look like a lucky haul, I'll dig the rules out!
Okay, I don't recognise Alessio Cavatore's name, but I do recognise Bob Naismith and Michael Perry as long-running former GW sculptors. (Michael Perry's the one who lost his right hand loading a cannon and had to learn to sculpt left-handed.)
Great video, my only qualm is the Square Space ad. I was US Army IT and while I thought it was humorous and on-topic, end-to-end SSL is basically nothing compared to what we used. Just wanted to toss that out. Again, great video, and I'm definitely going to be looking for whatever I can of this game as it looks like it may be a great time.
I am *SO GLAD* i got the big starter box when Warlord put it in "Last Chance to Buy" some years ago, along with raw sprues of the Endos. Need to find a local copy of the boardgame and i'll be set, just need somebody else here that actually wants to give it a go, which is much harder to find i'd say... Had to edit the comment to add something a reviewer mentioned: The playstyles of the faction utterly reflect canon: The Skynet forces are ponderous war machines, utterly unconcerned about damage and can wipe out any squishy humans they come across, each one a one-machine platoon. On the contrary, the humans squirrel around, getting all the cover they can get, and when a chance appears they gang up on the machines, stunning them in groups long enough to be able to kill them, because humans always fight in groups and that's their strength, that and their leaders. Few wargames capture their canon so well.
7:38 um actually the t-800s in the box aren't cybernetic organisms as since they aren't infiltrator units they aren't covered in human tissue. But it's still a good joke Also, LOVE that frog
Thanks for the great vid again. Especially since this might not get the deserved amount of views. Purely because it's not about 40k. Production quality was also top notch again. Keep it up
Dave, I’m so glad the “time displacement mechanic” worked for you in real life, I’m guessing you used it somehow to arrive in your “time sphere” without being caught out in the buff? If so, we’ll played! Great video editing and content as always :D
Dear Dave, Bloody good intro! I've had this in my stash for ages, but never played it! Any chance of a painting tutorial or ideas for game board? Keep well & safe. Best Wishes Johnny
I remember falling in love with the rules to this game and then being unable to get any of my regular gaming crew interested. Still have a load of it in my cupboard. You may have inspired me to paint up Pops with Teddy Bear finally! :P
You are spot on about this game. The rules are much better than it has any right to be. I was lucky to buy it when they were dumping them (I think it was a tenner). And always meant to add to it with other minis (iirc it has rules for A1 Abrams tanks etc) I should do something with it really!
I wish they hadn't had the game tied into this movie (Dark Fate is much worse btw) cause it looks awesome its a shame it never really made it anywhere.
Great vid as usual Dave, thank you. Much as I want the Terminator franchise to succeed, it is quite satisfying that it now contains a trilogy of failed trilogies. That dice mechanic reminds me of Space Weirdos, in which buffs and debuffs are reflected by moving up and down dice types.
Totally sold! I'll be looking out for this, and I can already see necron and Imperial guard bits for proxies for additional Big T's and Human Fodder in my bitzbox. Cheers Dave, another great vid. 👍
The Time Displacement mechanic sounds like it could be taken to absolute wack extremes if the designers had been drunk enough when writing it. "If a model becomes a Time Displacement Agent, reset the entire board to the previous turn. That model has Invulnerable for the remainder of the turn."
still have mine. very cool game. you should look into the old Starship Troopers miniatures game. that was a ton of fun back in the day. love this video, keep the great content coming.
Black dragon minis has a few base sets still in stock (UK), as does Frontline Games. Pegasus Hobbies does awesome HK units (that's aerial and tank). Rise of the resistance and fall of skynet add some good content too (fall of skynet is not an easy find). Finally, Dystopic on My Mini Factory provides 28mm T800s with the retro plasma rifles and RSB-80 heavy plasma. Etsy has T600 models if you know anything about STI/scaling for 28mm (if you get that to work let me know!!). As far as resistance goes FL games has a few boxes left, and Empress Minis has a slew of vehicles (including techncials) to build your forces up. Hope that helps out.
@@bopaintsminis it’s all good! I do niche things, I don’t pretend to know everything, I look like a hippy and I’m semi crippled. I’m doing well considering haha!
Hello there! When you made your video about how it's hardly worth the effort doing non-gw content, i really felt for you. I have a few non-GW games here too and like to work on them from time to time. Even on my Insta-Posts i can see how attention drops when i'm not doing a fancy SpaceMarine or similar. So i'm REALLY celebrating that you did this video. FANTASTIC!!! And on top, it's extremely entertaining, holds a lot of interesting information and awakens my desire to grab a copy of that game for my personal collection. All boxes ticked :D Thank you for your effort and i hope the attention-drop isn't as hard as expected and that it gives you enough motivation, to do small non-gw videos again in the future :)
Hilariously it’s my best performing video after the video you mentioned hahaha! Had to hide what it was and blag it, but here we are. Happy to see a lot of people are now looking for this game!
This immediately reminded me of the fact there was a starship troopers war game. I've seen a few of the arachnid pieces up close and they're real detailed for being like early 00s. Big shocker though, they're out of print and just as expensive as you'd think, mostly due to the fact that everyone wants them for nid proxies.
I've been building & painting this game for about 2.5 years now. I got deep into Project Z (also defunct but now re-printed) survivor minis to bulk up my human forces. And yeah, the rules are pretty rad. I like this game. Hope to play a proper campaign some day
Man, T1 and T2 are soooooooooo good. Too bad everything afterwards was crap... At least we can use our imagination and enjoy the franchise through games and miniatures!
I love this game! So great to see someone covering it. Pro tip for you and anyone else wanting to recreate the future war scenes from the first 2 movies - NECA released a line of cinemachines Hunter Killers (both the tank and aerial variant) that are almost perfectly scaled for this game. They can be pricey sadly (about £50 or so) but I love using mine as they add so much to the feel of the T1/T2 era battles I like to recreate!
Dave. I had forgotten all about this game. I had the fall of skynet and a bunch of extra sprues for the soldiers and terminators when they were on clearance from warlord 10 sprues each of terminators and soldiers for like under a dollar each if I remember. . You convinced me to buy the actual game and expansion. Can’t wait to get some friends to play this with me. Thanks for putting this back out there.
Hey Dave, just passing by to let you know this format it cool! Good to hear about other games and move away from the 40k area for a while. I know the algorithm wants you to keep hammering GW stuff (if you catch my drift 😜) but we are here for you if you want to take us on a different tour. Love the channel, love your work. Cheers from Brazil!
Your video editing is {censored} amazing, seriously. I actually watch your videos partially just to admire your video editing skills, I mean I even watch the dang commercial ad, because it is entertaining. On topic this game shares a little bit of DNA with Mantics walking dead games, which you could still possibly buy without selling a kidney.
@@MSPaints If you can find it (Mantic lost the license a few months ago and put everything on a firesale) I think it would be up your alley. Assuming you are not bored of the Zombie theme done for the 400th time. Some good fan service if you enjoyed the books and pretty interesting gameplay.
Great vid! It's great to watch something like this that just sincerely shares how cool a not-commonly known thing is without being sponsored or 'gifted'. Keep up the good work 💪😎
