6:09 as dumb as this sounds, I really love the acknowledgement of the boys' sexuality in this film (meeks saying "i'll try anything once!" "except sex" or "did you see her naked?" and knox goes, "very funny dalton") because as someone who has had bad experiences with masculinity in the real world, to the point that I'm distrustful of men and male sexuality, this film portrays it in a way that feels so refreshingly innocent and gentle. Meeks especially: his grin when he sees Charlie's poem, the way he's nervous when the girls enter the cave, he and Pitts talking about college because they don't know how to flirt ("I might go to Yale, or I might not" lmao). It's acknowledging that they're hormonal teenage boys without dehumanizing or villainizing them for it, and i really appreciate that.
I’ve always thought that any young ladies that paused and looked at that group for more than a few seconds would see that Meeks would be a great future husband - kind and attentive, emotionally mature and empathetic, aware of when to appreciate tradition and when to buck it, and an exceptional genius and gifted with electronics etc which means he would start his own computer company after graduating from Yale/Harvard or wherever in the sixties and develop computer programs and become a billionaire. Dalton is charismatic, Todd is a sensitive poet, Neal is a beautiful soul, Knox would be a lawyer like his dad and a sweetheart etc - but Meeks will rule the world.
Beautiful character Steven Meeks: a student nice, ingenious and very good, but yet generous, always available to help the classmates and also willing to live differents experiences.
