Why is Frank so WIDE in this re-remaster? Also, why do modern games have problems with reflections? From 2015 and onward, almost no game could do mirrors, I don't understand why.
FOV change could explain franks... girth. Mirrors are problematic because of the wide adoption of SSR in modern games. They could use planar, but they're more costly performance-wise than SSR/cube maps. Ray tracing mirrors are also far superior to planar reflections (ie: control)
@@Nick930DR and GTA games never had issues with mirrors. The modern companies are going backward to early 2000s instead of forward with making mirrors better.
@@Nick930And majority of games didnt even have raytracing. Its like physx which flopped because majority of games cant even run with smoke that consumes too much fps. Even nowadays with modern hardwares the smoke takes a lot of fps.
I love how they gave Frank a little beard. That’s just me though And they gave his camera straps. It always bugged me how in the OG , he had no straps attached to his camera during gameplay but they fixed that little detail in the remake
Its important to note that the BIG mirrors like in the bathrooms do still work the same. Which is even weirder that they used cube maps instead of the planar reflections in these stores
I've noticed this tends be a trend in modern video games for some unbeknownst reason they can't put mirror reflections in games yet games from the ps2 era always had them like what's the reason!
@@EyeBeZombie Rendering is much more complex and resource intensive nowadays than those games. When you're asking a game to duplicate the scene with these higher standards it's only going to preform worse.
Ambient sounds are worse in the remake too. Like if you're just sitting idle and listen it's silent compared to the original where you hear the hordes.
It's so weird that everytime I see the remastered Frank West, my head tells me "Looks exactly how I remembered him" but when I see the OG version and the Remastered version side by side, I'm like "Wtf?!"
The removal of anything that can be "problematic" is sad to see it really made the characters memorable to now being generic or even cringe in the case of the Vietnam vet being a mobster or the camera perv isn't one, because your not allowed to lewd women in games anymore
The colour grading and 'monotonous' lighting of the original is better to me. It sells the mid-western, small-town consumerism aesthetic really well. The remaster has good lighting techniques, but looks washed out and misty in a lot of areas
I do miss the more aggressive zombie hordes. Remember being a frightened child playing this game hiding away in the corner of the Gym in Al Fresca (Flexin) during the nighttime hours and somehow the zombies would eventually find a way in. I think maybe I wasn’t careful and broke the glass instead of using the Automatic door but still, always felt tense.
Or the original is different from how you remember as a kid... The zombies are literally more abundant and just as aggressive. The game simply has better controls, making them easier to deal with.
The zombies are way more aggressive in the deluxe remaster, they have a higher tendency to grab and there aren’t as many invincibility frames for the player anymore so they are more successful in attacking you
Anyone else notice no bullet casings are ejected from the guns when fired? lack of polish imo, the original had it for every gun because that is how firearms work 😅
The slide on the pistol also doesn’t move at all in the remaster. Also why is the skateboard the size of a surfboard in the remaster? The lack of attention to detail in the remaster is disappointing.
Just learned about the remaster. This is exactly the kind of coverage i was looking for, with regards to showing what differences people were upset about. Thank you!
They censored other things that didn't need censoring. Cliff had his famous anti-communism lines removed and Larry was turned into a white guy because for some reason a Chinese man being a butcher is offensive for whatever reason. And there's the whole sexy shots no longer giving the player points despite them still being in the game anyways. A bunch of odd changes that didn't need to happen.
Happens in both original and remaster. The comparisons shown in this video were all done at the same time in the story to ensure as much parity in that regard
@@stonecold-i7c Render to texture or just mirroring geometry? Those can be a waste of resources or just not done very often due to geometry or level design constraints
I dont care one way or the other. Its such a non-issue its embarassing to even die on that hill. Censorship relates to existing media being altered, not new media being reapproached like a remake/remaster. My original dead rising is not impacted so its not "censored"
You are my favorite gaming content creator here on RU-vid i love your videos and the way you talk of our favorite hobby but in the case of Dead Rising Remake it's a waste of money i think the charm of the original is missing in the remake and they should do the 5th game of this series 🤔 greetings from Germany my friend please take care and keep up the great work ♥️
I actually got caught by the zombies way more in the remaster because the tracking seemed better. However the psychos were too easy, i wish their was a hard mode.
@@razzprince2877 From what I understand, the AI is less aggressive in general in the Remaster, however, zombie grabs are buffed significantly, as in the detection range for grabs were much larger, and you can't just cruise past grabbing zombies anymore through running or skateboarding.
The "Direct Comparison" series aims to go beyond pointless little details like "water splashes when you shoot water" and focuses on details that I feel are more important to the overall experience. I'll talk about minor details often, but as it relates to the overall presentation and what bigger picture benefits are on offer.
the lighting changes sometimes feel more like its on a movie set than the original. hoping someone makes a mod to tweak the lighting / color grading to feel a bit more grounded. otherwise this remake seems almost perfect
i love the remaster a lot as a fan of the original, everything about it is an improvement but it still keeps the same charm it originally had. my only issue is if there are too many survivors on the level at once, the game will drop frames pretty bad because of the AI changes. I assume if you have a better PC it won't matter but i personally dropped frames when rescuing more than 3 people (esp in the intro when everyone is in the entrance plaza) all in all tho, im really happy with the remake, and im normally very skeptical about remakes
i completed the 72h mode yesterday and I never died once. The game is so much easier than the original which is not a big problem for me. I know that dead rising is frustrating for most new people but for me it definitely lost some charm because of that. Plus the auto save completely removes the stakes of kinda every encounter. You never have to be scared before meeting a boss and think "Hm maybe I should have saved earlier", you just very convienently spawn in front of the psychopaths if you die. Again, I had a blast playing trough it but I just wish they would allow me to at least turn auto save off, it is way to overpowered. But I cannot deny that the game looks absolutely stunning to look at. RE engine is a beast!
I like the Remaster, but the Classic is still the best imo with just on technical details alone. There’s just so much thought and cutting edge stuff in it
-The "Erotica" photo category has been removed. -Cheryl Jones' outfit has been redesigned to be less revealing. -Larry Chiang's appearance has been redesigned to be less of a racial stereotype. -Cliff Hudson's dialogue has been changed to remove mentions of "Vietcong" and Frank being a "communist". -In the scoop Photo Challenge, Kent Swanson's Erotica photo has been changed to an Outtake photo. -Frank the Pimp has been renamed to Grateful Eight. -Zombie Genocider has been renamed to Zombie Annihilator. All of this because of the "modern audience." Just go play the original.
And lo and behold the game doesn't seem to be doing too well in the sales department. At least on Steam it's looking rough. But that can also be attributed to this being a $50 game, $70 in Canada when the superior original remaster is a mere $10. Unnecessary censoring plus the extremely overpriced price tag on the game makes this anything but "Deluxe".
@@Nick930 That's because you're not a real gamer. Every little change matters, and adjusting things for the "modern audience" is watering down the original vision. These changes aren't necessary, and it's not about whether the original still exists. It's about respecting what the game was meant to be, without catering to every new trend.
I wanted to provide some constructive feedback on your comparison videos: the use of Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA) significantly compromises image quality, resulting in noticeable blur, ghosting, and other artifacts. it's my hope that developers will soon acknowledge the limitations of TAA and explore alternative solutions. sadly, i don't anticipate a change in this approach anytime soon.
Oh, i know. But it's the best AA solution avilable in this title from what I remember seeing. I'd much rather use MSAA or DLAA (even tho msaa is outdated and super demanding)
The og is so crisp and clear!! This remake looks blurry and washed out. Im glad i didnt pre order. Would've been upset about the mirrors and cut dialogue anyway 😔 I wish they made a new game instead of another remaster
@@camdenritter7652 It's no longer a distinct category in itself, but you still get PP for taking photograph's of Jessie's boobs in some scenes. Cheryl's Request is totally unaltered, and you get a bonus for photographing her while she's posing. Seems like it was removed as a last-minute thing, rather than having been removed from the outset. Cheryl is a late game, somewhat hidden survivor, and Day 3 wasn't really showcased in any previews or demos, hence why it's pretty much exactly the same.
They did an amazing job basically with everything else but why did they have to change up franks character model so much. He looks way worse and fatter… his original brown leather jacket looks so much better with his original face and hair… I have no idea why they did that makes zero sense… hopefully someone will create a mod so we can play as the original character model but updated to fit the remaster.
The movie area is cool. I think Wonderland Plaza offers the most "mall-like" experience. Never liked the construction areas like north plaza as it feels like wasted space
@@Nick930 I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this, it was the same with the hotel in DR2. Just dosen't vibe with me personally and I would have preferred to have seen a complete section there
After watching this video, I did cancel playing the original game because I had finished the remaster, so it would be the same experience with lower graphics.
If anything this shows how relatively little graphics tech has actually progressed over 20 years. Compare a game from the 90's to Skyrim, this stuff used to advance much more rapidly.
That's because the types of things that were progressing from 1990-2005 were more obvious. Graphics tech is absolutely progressing a great deal, but it's not as clear to most people. Higher fidelity lighting, shadows, draw distances, particle density, interactivity, physics simulation. All this stuff is extremely demanding and constantly improving. Surface level facial geometry and animations only have so much more to go
Ngl I’m just not buying it because the voice actors just seem off from what I’ve watched and I’m not a fan of censorship, I understand that people in this day in age can’t take a joke but some of these changes are just silly.
I feel like they toned down the aggresiveness of the zombies because now they're more. If they were as aggresive as the first game it would be a nightmare to travel around.
That new voice is not frank. No offense to the new actor, I’m sure he was just doing what he was directed to do and it’s not bad, but the characterization is completely different and doesn’t really work imo.
Are you gonna a comparison of the recent Final Fantasy 16, and God of War Ragnarök on pc? Been trying to find other channels but they just don’t go into the level of detail you do🙏🏻
