@Zack Smith But Dead Space didn't fail, it's story came to a close on a cliffhanger and EA killed off Visceral before they could make any other Dead Space games, not to mention quantity doesn't mean quality and in that case Resident Evil may have a shit load of games but not many of them can come close to the horror and tension of Dead Space, which does a far better job at being a survival horror than Resident Evil, it's actually challenging, you don't need to depend on headshot RNG to kill your enemy, the enemies are unique and require different strategies, it takes place in a sci-fi setting where you use a bunch of mining tools as weapons against an undying horde that uses bodies to form bigger and badder monsters and has MUCH more horror than Resident Evil, you've got some body horror, gore, psychological horror, eye surgery, etc.
@Zack Smith We're talkin quality, not budget, did you ignore my points just to tell me that? Objectively, regardless of sales, Dead Space IS the better game, the better franchise, Dead Space's lore and horror is much more engaging and intriguing to me than fucking vampire mommies and hunchback fishbois, Resident Evil just became some weird fantasy shit and I'm not all about that, compared to Dead Space which is more grounded in reality and you're dealing with a scarier, unbeatable threat, and you aren't some badass guy saving the president's daughter or delving into a vampire mommy's keep to find a baby, you're just an ordinary engineer who gets caught up in a nightmare brought upon the ship you happen to be on by fanatics and a clueless mining company, Dead Space is scarier and far more interesting, you're constantly watching your back, dreading what may be around the corner and making sure you have the right tools for the job, I don't get that with Resident Evil, I felt more like an action hero than a horror survival protagonist, the only part of Resident Evil that was survival horror was the resource management but otherwise it mostly just wasn't scary and the actual gameplay was more action than horror.
That peeling system reminds me of the damage system in Doom Eternal, especially how you can tell how damaged the enemies are. Really excited for this remake!
I thought that too, however the fact that it is not just cosmetic makes it revolutionary in my eyes. Not just does it affect the gameplay, but as a nice side effect it also makes it really easy to create many different versions of the basic slasher, for example, by just randomly adding a few injuries... These different versions would in turn again vary the gameplay by the added weak points.
I'm beyond excited to see Gunner return. He's been saying for years he wanted to do another dead space project. Hopefully after this we can continue with Ds4?! (the original pitch sounded amazing)
@@ArcaneJudge Once they got to earth they would be stranded. Then they would form a crew and get a scrap ship. You would fly around the galaxy scrounging for supplies while trying to outrun the brother moons. Go to different planets, board derelict ships etc. The were going to open up the dead space galaxy. Very heavy focused on survival horror. Dead space 3's original plan with the “Dark Isaac” concept was also great until EA said "mental health was too sensitive of a topic" and got them to change it.. even though the whole series has been about mental health.
You have no idea how excited I was to see that Gunner Wright is coming back to voice Isaac, literally freaked out when he showed up on stream. Also, the improvements to the zero-g sections of the game **chef's kiss** are fantastic. I also really like this 'peeling' mechanic they're implementing, seems interesting and will spice up the gameplay a bit. I'm also super excited to see how they're going to tweak the story, I want to see how they'll incorporate Isaac's search for Nicole more into the narrative.
@@sletrent That could be an interesting angle, but it kinda ruins the reveal at the end of the game that Nicole was dead the entire time and Isaac was just seeing hallucinations of her.
@@SquashyButton Maybe it’s something as simple as a flashback to you killing a necromorph that the ending sequence uses to reveal “oops that was her” or something like that.
@@sletrent I get where you're coming from, but I can't imagine how Isaac, or any other character for that matter, would possibly know that any specific necromorph he's killed is actually Nicole. Like at the end of the game, would Kendra be like 'Here's a vid of Nicole killing herself and oh yeah, remember that one random slasher you killed way back in Chapter 3, that was actually Nicole.' Like, it would be tough to make something like that work narratively. And even if they did do something like that, I'm sure Isaac would be glad he killed Nicole if she had been turned into a necromorph.
I wonder if they'll add stuff or open up corridors and areas of the ship, off the beaten path that you can explore in your search for Nicole. It would make sense especially if there were clues about where she went around the ship during the incident. Not to mention a great opportunity for more horrifying encounters.
Less than a year of development and already looks very promising, the fact that you guys understand the roots of the game and improve over that respecting what made Dead Space, Dead Space is amazing, keep up the great work and please, take all the time you need, and use it wisely, we all know what happens when is wasted or rushed.
This is what happens when EA doesn't constantly have their noses up a studios ass while they are working on a game and giving them time with the project. If only they were constantly like that.
@@MisterJakeC I'm still waiting to see how this project turns up, I like the aproach so far but with EA behind them anything can go wrong, hopefully things turn up for the better though.
@@00Mike55 Exactly, that’s the only concern - EA behind the scenes. On the other hand, I’m grateful for the team behind the remake. A lot of respect is going into it with the old story and it looks amazing.
Excellent communication from the devs, makes me feel the game is in the right hands! Also wish it would've also been the case with Mirror's Edge Catalyst, another reboot\sequel of a cult-classic from EA, oh well. I do hope that franchise would receive a similar treatment in the future though, even if it means waiting for the PS6 generation for it.
Honestly, as much as I actually did enjoyed playing the third game(minus the transactions that are in it, obviously), I just think that they should retcon the 'story' of 3.
Everything I've heard and seen here is great. I like the way they described how they will be keeping and building on the story of the game, yet linking it more to the expanded universe to help "clear up" and link the lore better. I can Deffinetly see how they would do this. Proper happy, and the team seem to be genuinely interested and exited in making this. More please, after this, the other two, then 4.
I think they need to rework the story of the third game. Earthgov went down way too fast for something that appeared to be as omnipresent as them. We need a proper showdown between Earthgov and the Unitologists. We didn't even get to see the mausoleum ships built by the Church and hinted in the first game ! Imaging those things crashing on Earth or other colonies and spreading necromorph everywhere !
@@Paludion As far as I'm concerned there is nothing wrong with the story in 3. The coop was tacked on, which can be a bit confusing for some. But as far as Earth gov and the unitologists. Right from the first game, its not as simple as unitologists and earth gov. Other cooperations were involved as well, high ranking earth gov officials were unitologists as shown i the second game. It would have been cool to see a bit more but to be fair it's pretty obvious as to what went down and why. I have no doubt if they plan on remaking all the games, 3 will be filled out more with a proper coop but as far as adding or changing the story, not gonna happen.
One additional thought: If Isaac gets hit by something in zero-G please make that impact influence his movement / trajectory in Zero-G. I want to feel vulnerable and less in-control when fighting in zero-G than when fighting on my feet.
This stream was a really awesome idea and I appreciate that Motive were willing to show us footage like this. It's pretty obvious they understand people's skepticism and their transparency and willingness to show footage this early in development, with a lot of alpha and unfinished assets, really does give the impression that they want people to know that they're doing this with as much care as possible and don't want to step on anyone's toes. Say what you will about EA, but Motive Studios have been pretty damn great about everything they've done, and it looks like they're gonna do this game justice. Side note: I find it awesome that they're taking the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Uncaged Edition" approach with the gore on the necromorphs; it's kind of amazing that no other game has really done gore like that in all this time (to my recollection, that is)
Honestly everything sounds like a great direction and these people seem smart and to get the essence of what made Deadspace special while having some really cool ideas to modernize and improve it.
This looks fantastic, guys! Keep it up! Loving the transparency! We need more devs to do this in the industry! Communication is key! Can't wait to see the return of one of my favorite franchises! ❤
When this initially got announced I had 0% faith in a modern remake of a classic horror game. However, after watching this, my faith has been restored. I'm now VERY excited for this, as it certainly appears to be in the right hands!
Love everything about your messaging and the direction you're headed in here Motive; thank you for the very honest, very transparent look at how things are going!
This looks so good!! I'm so excited!!! I appreciate the transparency and showing behind the scenes and taking fan feedback. There's so much love being put into it and it shows!
So stoked that Gunner is voicing Isaac again. This is the only way the character should be voiced. I hope once they have all the assets, etc, with this new game on the new engine (and should sales meet their predictions) we finally get the long awaited Dead Space 4.
Can there even be a dead space 4? Looks like Isaac and carver were about to die when they got back to earth and it cuts to black. Earth was already destroyed if I remember correctly
Even these early looks look good lol. This looks very promising. I can’t remember being so scared from a game before in my life. There have been a few but this game was so memorable. Also hearing there are no micro transactions just filled my heart with joy that much more. Thank you for that.
The graphics alone and the improvements looked amazing, especially newly added areas to give more depth to the game. But out of all things, Isaac talking is a big yes that the original needed.
Really excited for the new depth of dismemberment. Having to keep damage somewhat consistent on the bone and “peeling” system to effectively cut the enemies apart will make missed shots more panicked imo and prevent it from becoming just throwing ammo at them until they die even better
My lord, this is Amazing! All the little changes you’ve made will improve the gameplay so much and Isaac’s voice will give a different sense of life to the game. Love the Zero G thing - Cant wait to try the game, Super Excited!💎
Everything I'm hearing sounds great. I have the plats in Dead Space 1-3, love the franchise and happy to finally have it back. The only thing I can think of to suggest would be if you brought the original writers back to consult on fleshing out the story bits involving Nicole that you mentioned.
32:06 Happy late birthday Gunner Wright. I can't wait. Space Zombies. Aliens, of course! Those space suits Isaac wear, it look pretty awesome... Isaac Clarke is strong, and yeah he's full of bad ideas. Mistakes, he does... so do I, I made big mistake. Isaac is so kool and a Legend. I believe in Isaac. I love that Plasma Cutter he use! May the Peace be with u Isaac Clarke. From Harlingen Texas. August 26, 1973 August 26, 2021 through August 26, 3021
As a long time fan of the series I'm so incredibly excited about everything I've seen-- I also love how the voice obstacle is handled (and bringing Gunner back). I always imagined in a 'reality' scenario Isaac did speak but then would quiet down. Much like Max in Mad Max Fury Road. Everything looks so incredible I'm not even sure I can say any sort of criticism, it's just all stunning and exciting!
I like the moments with Kendra and Hemmond that feel like mute Isaac is watching a play. The only parts Isaac should have a voice in are with Nicole. That would make these moments more personal and special. Otherwise Isaac is the recipient of orders from his "arguing parents". I am the recipient of the orders and I sneak silently through the Ishimura like a wounded animal.
As a hardcore Dead Space fan I am hoping for the best. These lads are very passionate. I love that. I think I will say this the secrets to nailing this remake, well some of them are: Isaac’s suit Clunkiness. Wonky camera angle. (How hard it was to aim in the original! Not a centred aim.) Isaac’s movement. Dialogues, some of them were unnecessary in Dead Space 3. The atmosphere. The whispers in the corridors. The Darkness, by this I don’t mean lighting. How dark and and despairing the environment feel like. There is a scene early in the game. A woman has a saw in her arm operating on an almost dead man. A few seconds later she slices her throat knowing that there is no hope left for survival. That is scary and dark. I want all of those moments to be included. The Necros themselves and their spawn points.
I feel like Motive really proved themselves with Squadrons. They've shown that they have passion for their work in a way that many developers often don't, and it seems after watching this that they really love the Dead Space franchise and want to make this the best version of the original. Can't wait.
After watching this, I strangley feel assured about this remaster. Dead space holds a very special place in my heart for being my favorite terror survival type horror game. I can't wait to see the full game play reveal showcase
I’m a huge dead space fan, I got all the achieves and trophies on both consoles and did a 8 hour top to bottom “movie” play through using only the plasma cutter (for an achieve), it was glorious. As for improving DS1, the only real issue with the game was the asteroid shooting section. But the new engine and polish will be great, def add in the melee from 2 (no mo stomp) and maybe redo Dead Space Extraction, the prequel game for the wii (which I still own) and recapture Peter Mensah and other actors originally used of course. Bring in the badass DS2 “stargate” armors please!! And the unitology armor covered in runes!! The drag tentacle... etc. Issac returning to voice the first game is Amazing. Can’t wait for this game! Would love to be on the community council, hit me up!
