@@danielgeronimo5538 ehhhhh if enemies drop ammo like the original DS games, it's not "survival horror", it's just horror At least surivival horror USED to mean that there were limited resources like the old RE games
@@rdowg I call it a survival horror because, well, unlike OG Dead Space, you have to make some considerations now which can affect your survival (i.e limited oxygen). Otherwise this would fall under "Action Horror". Horror is a massive genre tree, survival is only part of it. We still have stealth horror, and psychological horror.
I love the fact that it dramatically improves on the graphics without sacrificing the original art style. Not a lot of remake/remasters do that nowadays.
Completely agree! I'm so impressed they essentially started from the ground up with art and assets, and still managed to maintain the look and feel of the original. Awesome job 👌👌👍👍
@@atomickaiser1934 Demon's Souls removed almost all the specific style for generic western fantasy, the others are true but that's still like a handful out of a ton more.
Being able to 'reexplore' the ship is a fantastic idea. I remember the old game being so empty as long as you remembered which directions you had already progressed through.
@@clockworkNate for the remake they're getting rid of the tram or at least not making it the main way of getting between levels, so yh! Back tracking to previous level areas will be possible :)
@@clockworkNate I mean, you do revist some old areas but you go back through different routes. You don't physically go back to old chapters. If you ever went off the designated path back to 'old places' you would never encounter anything. The maps were kind of big because you moved so slowly.
@@totaldramagamer5521 ohhhh ok yea I thought you meant like at anytime you wanted you could travel back to the old chapter areas, I remember trying to do that before and couldn't figure out how 😄
Dude Motive is awesome. Their last game, Star Wars Squadrons, they were heavily involved with the comp scene. Basically everyone that works at motive is cool on a personal level.
That element of choice in deciding where to divert power in certain areas (and how that directly impacts the gameplay) is a great touch that feels true to Isaac's engineering roots while obviously adding some extra replay incentive.
@@stinkboy8147 Having lights off adds the horror element of the game, why turn up your brightness? Seems like you'd rather ruin your horror vibe than enjoy the game. Idea of being in the dark, unable to see, unable to predict your opponents adds an element of horror and cool factor to the experience, you gotta be alert at all times because you never know whats beyond the void. Simply turning up the brightness ruins that factor, it destroys the horror element the game is meant to deliver (Obviously by choice you can turn up the brightness which I don't have anything against, not everyone prefers to walk blind but still, wouldn't you rather be scared and have fun rather than not be scared and be disappointed?)
The nostalgia hits pretty hard when you see the side by side comparisons. It just overall looks amazing, especially the creepy atmosphere. It's also cool and weird to think that Gunner Wright was asked to come back and voice Isaac just because you were so used to him being silent. I loved him in 2 and 3 so that is a big W for me.
I'm so glad that they put the old footage next to the new one. I saw the new stuff and thought "That doesn't look a whole lot better than the old one." Then they put up the old one and I was absolutely blown away. This remake looks amazing! I can't wait to play it.
Time to be unalive, ain't no way I'm not getting a heart attack from shutting off the lights to reroute the power to fuel in this remake when they've actually made the darkness truly dark, space-like dark!
Breathtaking. Literally, if you'd disabled life-support in the walkthrough. I'm all in. I've finished the games, read the novels, watched the movies. One of the few games I've ever preordered. This is gonna be epic. Eagerly waiting to return to the Ishimura.
@@o6g536 Never played any of the Final Fantasy games so I didn't know. I was more directing towards The Last Of Us Part 1 which felt more like a remaster than a remake. No new content, voice acting, soundtracks, gameplay all are same. While Dead Space Remake has all new voice acting, new side areas added, graphics greatly improved etc.
Mafia 1: Definitive edition is the definition of a proper remake. It makes this remake look like poop my man, especially when the price on release of Mafia was £35. As opposed too the Dead Space remake that will be selling for £50 PC and £70 consoles
I wish they kept Isaac looking over his shoulder when idle or walking around. Much better atmosphere of him being fearful and cautious than him just eyes front the whole time. It feels more like Isaac in dead space 2 and 3 than one
I really love how locations can change if you revisit them, in the original game everything was set, how many enemies you encounter and where, when and where they jump in front of you, etc.
Fixed enemy locations etc is pretty the standard through most of gaming history not even just the og. But indeed, I think this may work extra-well for a horror game
what they're saying kinda reminds me of the AI Director in Left 4 Dead, that can change what enemies and items spawn and even map geometry based on the team's progress through the map.
The "quarantine" sections of the OG had its charms, but once you look deeper into it, you'll the see gamey side, which can break the notion of "unsafe at all times".
I do hope this game does well, been wanting this franchise back from the dead for years, and hope your team gets to tackle DS2 and DS3 retrospectively. This was a franchise that deserved better treatment and a proper ending, here's hoping you guys get to do it justice.
And if they do remake DS3, I hope they remove the co-op and make it single player, otherwise it won't be a horror game because players wouldn't be scared if they play with someone else to accompany them.
@satirical mixed kid True true still coop should be removed. I mean I'd get more scared if was watching a horror movie alone with no one in the house. If I'm watching it together with someone, I wouldn't be as immersed as when I watch it all alone. They should make the game scarier too indeed
@@twinkletoes6442 I'll throw my two cents into the ring here, I have more fondness for DS3's coop than the rest of the game, bar the awakened DLC, the fact that in certain side missions the player controlling Carter saw completely different things to Isaac due to the whole dementia kicking in. Then in Awakened both characters go at it in a dementia infused delirium at the end of the expansion really set the tone. Sure coop is inherently less "scary", but by that point the game was relying on jumpscares rather than tension. I feel that Motive if given the chance could make DS3's coop work wonders. But thats only if this does well, and they get the green light to press on into 2. Just gut the crappy microtransactions, slot in the classic gun setup, make ammo and health harder to find, and focus on the ambience. Coop could easily add the experience overall, just dont have the BS coop only missions, that really screwed over single player guys.
Wow, I've never seen so much detail and grandeur added in a remake version of a game. This is just epic. Other games just do some upscaling and textures, this is a phenomenal, reimagined world with the intensity cranked up and the ship looks huge appropriate to the feeling it should create.
I love that they are staying so close to the original with sounds, art, feeling,.. this dark utilitarian ship is well engrained in my memories😂 cant wait to explore it again
The fact that zero gravity travel has been implemented from Ds2 just shows the insane amount of level redesign. It’s a significant amount of change. They truly have rebuilt the entire game, not just made the original pretty, I’m honestly blown away. I’m also astonished that the developers and us just got robbed of the final entry that DS3 set up.
The people that dedicated themselves to creating Dead Space from nothing got forced to make something they didnt want to and then closed when it didnt succeed well enough. Just like Ensemble games with Age of Empires/Halo Wars and many many other. Then the people who lost their jobs get to watch EA go "Oh I guess people really did like DS" and revive the series. Essentially stealing someones job and creation from them. The game looks great but its hard to be happy about it.
@@He11Jumper the DS3 epilogue DLC kind of gave a sequel set up against more Moon Monsters but since Visceral Games got shut down after EA made them make a freaking Battlefield game, which wasn't their forte. So DS4 never got explored and the story of Dead Space more or less ended with Issac coming to his doom by flying into a surprise swarm of moons.
@@icards7986 yeah, I know, that's what I mean: that didn't feel like "ehrnahgerd what's gun happen next" sequel bait. that felt more like a "oops, too bad, everything we did is for nothing because the Brethren Moons are here" ending (and not a cliffhanger.)
The amount of care and love that the team has put into this remake is just incredible. As a veteran of the original games, particularly the first one, I’m so pumped to play this masterpiece all over again. These enhancements look phenomenal. Incredibly excited for January!
@@chewcab8008 Also, the team that develops the game has no say in the price of the game. The time they spend away from their family and friends is still real. Find a new slant.
@@kosmosfan01 Agreed it but does leave room for expanded exploration, especially since this remake will be making the ishimura more 'explorable' than it was before.
@@horrorpleb249 Oh yeah. That's gonna make for quite the experience for someone that has played the game before. The hanger section in the video was quite tell of how much will be added as all I remember in that area is the bottom section when you're trying to get the marker on the ship to return it to Aegis VII and there wasn't much down there except the rails. The ship is basically the main character so more exploration is a plus, especially with the intensity director feature which could keep you on your toes.
Just watched Easy Allies' preview about this, where Huber went ecstatic and enthusiastic about the game, and now I come back here again to re-watch this presentation. It's amazing how so many new things are added, not just the visuals, but also tangible gameplay elements, new dialogues and new cutscenes. This is a labour of love!
Absolutely amazing! Only a personal gripe I have, that I will ultimately get over, is Isaac's movement. I actually enjoyed his sluggish heavy footfalls and methodical looking around. To me you felt the weight of his engineer suit, and his slow but determined pace through the halls of hell was ostensibly more real. The new pace moves with an urgency that I can still get behind, albeit feeling strange at the moment.
I totally agree. This is the first thing i noticed too. In the original, he would walk so slow and look around a lot, which built up the tension. Here it's almost like he's on some game show where he's running to hit all the right buttons on time. There's the dread vs the urgency, and i believe I'd go with the dread from the original. In fact did you notice his walk? There's a sort of a limp to it
@@finnish_hunter This may not be the final animation. Things like fine tuning of animations can happen quite late on in development. I think I may have even read somewhere that Motive said some stuff seen in this video wasn’t final, like animations.
@@smoker5989 In what other game, in whatever genre, where headshots are useless and requires you to cut off enemy limbs? or the character not using actual guns but mining tools instead? or the HUD and UI being entirely in-game? exactly none.
Absolutely floored by how much care was put into this project. You guys clearly understand the source material and have a strong love for the game. Seriously appreciate the work and passion you guys have put in
Thank you for your care and dedication to this remake. High praise to all your designers, programmers, artists, sound engineers, producers, qa, everyone.... January cannot come soon enough.
I will admit I’ve had high skepticism on this remake. After so many flood and fails under EAs wing it’s hard to get excited for anything they do. But all the gameplay and everything they’ve shown for this I can finally say I feel truly excited for this game. Can’t wait for this launch and I hope this series returns for a proper finale
This looks... Absolutely impeccable. I cannot properly express how excited I am for this, and how glad I am that such a talented studio is working on it. It shows.
This actually stokes hope in me for this. The effort, attention to detail and the love for the source material whilst adding new elements is definitely on display here.
Not gonna lie... got chills watching! this is amazing, honestly seeing how you guys built off of what Glen and his team from Visreal did and then taking it and applying new and current mechanics and really making this a next gen game is great. Well done. Really look forward to playing through this again, even if the thought of it just gave me chills down my spine thinking about it!
Looks fantastic, 'bout the only complaint I have is Isaac's walk speed though. The original's slower movement aided tension, and also reflected how heavy Isaac's suit was.
I love how it looks like! The only "but" I will add is the Isaac's movement. Heres Isaacs looks like is running insteed of walk. In the original, when he moves, he look arround checking no one follow him, walking with fear, quiet slow. He had fear in his walking, and, with the stomp. I think you made it so fast. I think adding more frames when he rise his leg, could make it slower. To feel the weight of his boots. The effort he has to do to defend himself.
This is super true, I noticed that too, it feels like he is running and with more confidence, exactly the oppossite of the original and I really don't like it, it lost all suspense and the weight on his footsteps, and looks a little but clunky too. It surprises me how the put attention to every detail except for that...
I disagree. First because you're nitpicking and second because his walking looks fine, he moves fast but he's not going around a park, he's not having a field trip. He's skittish and makes small but fast steps. He wants to get where he needs to without loitering around corridors infested with necromorphs
@@beziik2357 I disagree. First because you’re wrong and second because his walking doesn’t look fine. He’s not at the park, he’s on a space ship infested with necromorphs, Isaac moves slowly and carefully in the first game because he doesn’t know what’s around the next corner. His slow walking also built tension for what could be next. Isaac wants to get where he needs to without being loud and stupidly rushing in.
@@beziik2357 I see your point. And you're right. But I'm no nitpicking. Is visual language for a 3PS, is necesary. Maybe I just stuck with old game (cuz 10 years of playing it isn't so easy to remove xd)
The Ishimura, bigger than ever and fully explorable each chapter? Now _that_ is amazing. Other details I love: The animations and models are better than I could've imagined. I love that you've retained a lot of the original style while still adding new details. I see the centrifuge is now two layers. I do wonder how that, and other size increases, will tie into gameplay. That model of a tentacle that we got a glimpse of is terrifying, and I can't wait to see it in-game! I do wonder what you've done to the death animations for them, if they still fade away or if they retreat differently. It truly looks like it could grab you and crush you without stopping, or slice right through armor. The necromorphs themselves have such detail! I was hoping for just some updates to visuals where the dismemberment is involved, but you've also added deteriorating segments of their skin and flesh when shot, allowing for their health to be visually determined, which is amazing and so much more than I expected. I wonder if we'll see some damaged in equipment or from their previous fights who still come at us, further changing what targets to prioritize in each encounter?
If I had to be really picky, I'd say Isaac still feels a little stiff like it's 2008, would be nice if he had some animated inertia to him when he spins/turns/moves while aiming or in zero G but honestly, it won't kill the experience at all with so many more amazing additions added to the gameplay
@@dignusdingus3709 I can agree with that. I don't know if the movement controls for flight have drift to them, but that might be something that makes you really feel like you're wearing a thick metal suit to protect against impacts and cutting and so forth. Though that same suit might itself be what keeps him so stiff - I can't imagine that much material is easy to bend out of shape, unless you really try at it.
@@dignusdingus3709 it would be nice if one can choose between light or heavy armor. So that you can move faster with light amor but can take fewer hits and vice versa.
@@nicolo2867 Nah, I'd rather the gameplay be specially tailored around set movement speeds and the upgrade system already in place. Your idea just sort of just complicates it. If you really want something like that that, you can try to play the entire game without upgrading Isaac's suit to challenge yourself
Honestly it all looks freaking great. The fact that you guys are going further with the scope of the game makes me hopeful that things are going smoothly.
This looks fantastic. I can't wait to experience this classic game again. I'm still crossing my fingers for a PSVR 2 support announcement, as this would be amazing in VR.
Edit: After watching GameSpot footage I have to say that it already looks way better for some reason Feel like he is walking slightly too fast mb it is just me but it feels like rushing through the rooms instead of walking slower and taking in the atmosphere. I hope they lower the walking speed across the board. I think the animations are okay so far but the game is not entirely finished anyway so idk we will see. Otherwise looks absolutely insane cannot wait
Dead Space has always left an impression ever since first seeing the commercials on TV back in the day! I love Dead Space and wish it much future success!
I hope now that technology and social media presence is bigger than it ever was when this game was released will bring a wider audience and newcomers to this franchise hopefully igniting a comeback for the dead space franchise
This looks FANTASTIC!! 😆 I guess my only concern is the walk speed? It looked like whoever played was sprinting almost the whole time. Really cool how you put in a choice for that section whether to have the lights or oxygen on instead! Thank you for showing more in depth gameplay, all in all I'm very much looking forward to this, you guys have done stellar work 😊
Yap, I just commented the same, Isaak's walking pace is too fast. It takes away from the tension which is present throughout the whole original game and of which the game lives
@@MGMan37 We’ve all watched it, he slows down to match the pace of the original, if you go and watch the speed Isaac walks in the original you’ll see how much faster he is in this one
@@MGMan37 And actually everyone who played the original game, doesn't need a comparison at all, I immediately noticed the difference in the pace, without watching the comparison video. That's how people get fooled nowadays, you can't trust and rely on such things only, you must have experienced the og game, and if you have, then you just got fooled by the video
This team has that fire burning in them that not many have. I so proud of this team. The love and passion that they pore into this game is outstanding.
They seemed to have also made the necromorphs more aggressive and relentless so they probably made Isaac slightly faster to account for that change. It does lead to a more Dead Space 2 like pace rather than DS1's.
@@TheMaestro116 I mean more in the way his animation moves. Especially his hip movement looks quite weird. I don't really mind having actual faster walking speed.
Making the Ishimura whole (Dead Space moment) is one of the unexpected thing for the remake. I like how you guys make an open-world-ish type map for this remake. Also adding new features on the gameplay to give the edge. Can't wait to get this game.
Looks amazing! I really like the expanded puzzles and decisions you've added and the seamless nature of DS2 making its way into DS1 is going to be so fun!
Dead Space was already one of, if not the, most frightening games of all time. the fact that these guys actually managed to make it _more_ frightening and better....unbelievable. I hope each purchase comes with a Trauma counseling kit.
This looks like an extremely faithful, 1:1 recreation with a bunch of added features like backtracking anywhere. I hope they use that to simply add secrets and reward players for going to different parts of the ship at different times. This looks really hype.
Excellent graphics, a very nice refresh of the interior and general places but always keeping the original design in mind and putting extra details where they are needed. Also the original epic and atmospheric music and sounds, with more acoustic depth. Kudos to the entire team, for respecting the iconic original game and enhancing the Dead Space experience, without changing it to something else. This looks amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on this masterpiece! Congratulations, keep up the great work! 👍
One small thing, in dead space 2 and 3 Isaac's helmet lights acted as somewhat of a flashlight in the dark. I am hoping you add this near feature in the remake since I did not see it in the gameplay.
the care taken to listen to community feedback and stick to the original while still making it look and feel brand new is incredible. a remake done correctly in every way

its so beautiful! As someone who played the original and pretty much 100% each of the games (yes even 3 on pretty much all platforms) I can see the love the game got and the team behind it is just amazing, cant wait to jump back in again!
I don't see why 3 got so much hate. Once I realized it wasn't going to be a clone copy of 1 and 2, I ended up having a lot of fun with it. Heck, there's a decent chance it's my favorite game in the trilogy.
It's looking fantastic! My only complaint is the over the top screen blood that appears when the lurker jumps on Isaac (6:00). I really hope that's not in the game before it ships.
Everything you could hope for in a remake. Keeping the heart, soul, & structure of the original, while using current technology to better realise its vision. It's "how you remember it in your head". This looks absolutely amazing, and I don't say that lightly. Well done lads.
The new exploration with the intensity mechanic looks to be amazing. I am a lore buff and I am hoping the exploration plus the new story elements being added in will help facilitate a DS2 remake as well? Seeing how this one looks, one can hope right?
OH WOW, January can't come fast enough I say. This looks so incredible, and has improved over the already amazing classic Dead Space from 2009. I'm buying this for sure, simply it's Dead Space all over again. What an amazing workd and efford went into this.
The amount of time love and care they put into making this game it's just astonishing absolutely love Dead space so to see this game in a modern light is very very gratifying.
I have a feeling that this a big test for the devs, as in possibly continuing the franchise of dead space and bringing back that horror immersive feeling. Great job! I cannot wait to play this again!
Dead Space is one of my favourite games of all time, the details of the Remake have me hyped big time, really like the additional details like the Captain turning into a Necromorph in real time, I still remember that scene behind the glass in the 2008 game, + super excited for the new optional areas to explore, January can't come soon enough 👏👏👏👏😃
Mind blown, you have far exceeded my expectations of what was coming, this is how a remake should be done, all other developers out there considering a remake should take note.
4:05 - Guy lying dead should not have a full health bar... just saying 😅🙂 The game looks beaaaaautiful and is giving me some amazing nostalgic vibes. Can't wait to play it the way we all imagined it - and what it really felt like at the time!
This might be THE most excited I have ever been for a video game! The return of a franchise I’ve actually loved more and more as time has passed. This is arguably my favorite video game franchise ever. And I cannot WAIT to play it again. Thank you so much to everyone involved for reviving this ❤️ this means the world to me. Collector’s edition secured this time 😊
IMMEDIATELY fell in love. The fact yall were able to make it into one, cohesive level is awesome. The graphics are beautiful and the addition of the thruster navigation makes it feel like a blend of Dead Space and DS2. Im doing my annual spooky season play through of the trilogy. Am already Stoked for January!
Looks great, but I have 2 little nitpicks: I hoped that the lights on Isaac's helmet would light up the area in front of him, that's something I loved about Dead Space 3. It also irks me that in all pre-release gameplay and trailers only show the level 3 suit, I hope the other ones are still in the game.
Looks great, but one small feedback regarding graphics: I hope the game has an RT mode, especially for shadows from local lights. Or the local lights should have shadow casting enabled and have to be high resolution too, because so often on Isaac's suit it is visible that the geometric detail catch light but do not cast self-shadows, which gives it a very dated look.
I was genuinely taken aback by you guys making the ship entirely explorable from the get-go (access issues notwithstanding). This remake is the best thing that ever happened to the franchise. I seriously hope we get a DS renaissance after the sales skyrocket.
