An ice pick attack is my plan A on deadbolts, if I am trying to enter respectfully. However, it only works on low grade (cheap) deadbolts. High grade deadbolts have guards built into them to prevent ice pick attacks.
In my experience, high grade deadbolts can be tough to enter through respectfully. I find we end up doing just as much damage as if we did conventional forcible entry… hence that’s my plan B.
I have also seen a Schlage deadbolt that did not the mechanism on its topside to do an ice pick attack. In this case I would try to pull the lock cylinder as far away from the door as possible, and cut the two screws using mini bolt cutters… and then attack the latch hub.
