Deadheading Perennial Cornflower / Bachelor's Button / Mountain Cornflower / Centauria Montana
This is one of the most unique flowers in my gardens. They have a halo of fringed petals around a centre of thinner petals that the bees, butterflies, and other pollinators love to visit. I have a purple variety, but they come in other colours and bicoloured varieties. This plant is native to Europe and is a staple in English cottage gardens.

Perennial Cornflower Care Tips:
Hardiness: 3-8
Light: full sun to partial shade
Bloom time: late spring (and late summer if deadheaded)
Height: 1-2'
Spread: 1-2'
Water needs: moderate
Soil: well drained, drought tolerant
Maintenance: low
Pests: deer resistant
Great cut flowers!
Note: perennial cornflower can be quite aggressive, so deadhead to keep it from reseeding. This plant is considered invasive in some areas in North America (such as British Columbia, and states along the Western Canadian/US border).

RB the Garden Nanny, LLC I have never seen this type of cornflower. I love the purple color. Thanks for the tips and sharing.

I think the annual variety is more common here in north America - apparently this variety is super common in English cottage gardens. Thanks for watching!

I love the fact that you strawberry so concerned about the naturalized species and to manage properly non native ones. I got a brand new subscriber! I sowed annual cornflower seed, 2 packets, one was a mix of colours and the second one was true blue bachelors button's the big blue variety, in 2020 them I save the seeds I get and direct sowed them last September. They are my first winter flower, they are massive blooming in a unstoppable way from February to now, they was 120cm-140cm and I cut back 15cm last month and now they have a big and bold flower and strongest colour, just like in their prime. I noticed that all save seeds are taller and resistant than the bought ones, special here in my microclimate 9b zone with black of rainfall in summer and floods and gales all late autumn to early spring.

I haven't saved the seeds for these yet, but you have inspired me to do so! Your gardens sound just lovely! I can imagine that the ones grown from seed are more resilient to your conditions because they have experienced your particular climate right from the start. Thank you for sharing your experiences and for the support for my channel! 💜

I grow my Cornflower in containers and they do just fine. It even doubled in size. I have the purple and white colors. They prefer to be little on the dry side so I make sure they dry out completely between watering. Yes they are super easy to care.

Seriously?’! Just pull them and put in basket! Dead heading isn’t the same as cutting back. It takes more energy to deal with clippers than pulling multiple at a time
