Deadliest D&D 🔪Dagger🔪 Fighter 🏰🐉 Dungeons and Dragons Character Builds
Nerdarchy sets out to create an optmized dagger fighter build for 5th edition dungeons and dragons. We look at the various fighting styles offered up by the different warrior classes, 5E feats, races, and class features from the 5e DnD players handbook and Unearthed Arcana articles from Wizards of the Coast. All to bring these together into the ultimate dagger fighter for 5E. We look at the fighter, ranger, and rogues classes to help bring this build together. Of course since it is one of our 5E D&D character builds we also thow in a background to round out the character build.

A monk is as viable as a dagger thrower as much as they're viable at anything else. The dagger is a monk weapon so the damage die for it will increase. When used in melee combat the extra unarmed attacks will still be possible. When used as a ranged weapon the monk's movement speed will make it easier for them to move around the battle field to both create and close distances. The mobility feat will only add to this. Also, the monk's stunning strike will work from a dagger just fine. And, every level after the 4th level the monk will have more opportunities to use stunning strike than the battle master will have superiority dice to use on their special attacks. A monk won't have the burst damage. But the more deadly character isn't the one who can hit hardest one time, right?

zero11010 totally agree Monk should be been discussed it pairs well with Ranger. Also think Ranger Horde Breaker potentially could be better than Collosus Slayer, especially if you can make Sharpshooter damage hit reliably. Monk could replace Rogue and you may need as little as one level of Fighter.

you could also take kensei monk. it's a melee weapon so agile parry would work, but you can also make ranged attacks so Kensei's shot also works with the dagger. +it makes all daggers you trow magic weapons.

I think Archery fighting style is for ranged weapons. Daggers are melee weapons that can make ranged attacks. Its not the same. I searched for it in sage advice. Jeremy Crawford said that in a tweet of his : "The Archery feature is intended to work with ranged weapons. A dagger is a melee weapon even when you throw it."

I'm so glad Crawford completely forgot about Master Thrower being one of the most popular 3.5 prestige classes. Then not only doesn't support throwing daggers and other melee weapons he goes out of his way to nerf people trying to cobble together a bad semblance of the old master Thrower.

If you look in the weapon section of the PHB where it talks about Melee and Range on 146. the last sentence states. "A melee weapon is used to attack a target within 5 feet o f you, whereas a ranged weapon is used to attack a target at a distance." This would put daggers as a ranged weapon if it is used that way. Also under Range on the next page it talks about ranged weapons has two numbers listing the range in feet which daggers have. This makes from the PHB that daggers are both a melee weapon and a ranged weapon according to the PHB.

As you increase your monk's level the damage die of his monk weapons goes up, and throwing daggers count as a monk weapon. Many people don't actually realize that throwing daggers are monk weapons, but the rules as written say they are. Pg 78 of the players handbook says that monk weapons are "shortswords and any simple melee weapons that don't have the two-handed or heavy property." Daggers are simple melee weapons that do not have the two-handed or heavy property, so they are monk weapons.
@dabeatlesburnhamroad8244
@dabeatlesburnhamroad8244 7 лет назад
um, monk increases unarmed strike die, not the weapon die. normally hitting with your hands does 1 damage, monk starts off by doing 1d4+dex, which increases up to 1d10 as you go up in level. The thing monk weapons get (all simple weapons and short swords) is you can add Dex instead of Strength. it dosent add to your weapon damage die.
@patmaloney5735

Yah its a trap, if you got mad dex you can take a garaunteed 6 on each unarmed strike if you follow unarm,ed rules (1+STR(DEX)+ProfBon. That makes n 18DPR per turn with bonus strike @ 1st lvl w/ dex 16. even so its a 15 DPR @ DEX 15 pretty gnar caonsidering your a fledgling

That's a cool build. If you wanted to go in a totally different direction, you could go magical knife fighter with Bladesinger. Your HP sucks but your AC is ridiculous, 19 at 2nd level and 24 with Shield spell. You got those Cantrips you could use like Booming Blade and Greenflame Blade plus all kinds of cool buffing spells like Blur or Mirror Image. Cloud of Daggers is a must. You could even reflavor some of your spells to be thrown magical daggers like Magic Missile being force daggers or Fire Bolt being flame daggers. And when you get tired of stabbing things with knives, you're still a kick ass wizard who can do everything a normal wizard can do. This kind of build would give you more of an anime style feel.

Human Ranger, Two-Weapon fighter, Colossus Slayer. Feat: Sharpshooter. High Dex. According to the PHB, you can attack or throw with each hand. Because of the Fighting Style, the damage applies to the off hand. Ranger can put Hunters Mark on the target. If they choose to take the penalty to hit, you'll get 1d4, + Dex mod, +1d6 Hunters Mark, +10 Sharpshooter, and if it's wounded, +1d8. That's a possible 1d4+1d8+1d6+13 (Dex 16, Sharpshooter) , PLUS 1d4+1d6+3 for the other hand...in one round...by level 3. If you need more than that, seek a doctor. Single class. One feat. EDIT: melee that's the same damage short the +10. At level 5, you get yet another attack, so stack on another set of 1d4+1d8+1d6+Dex. Again, single class, one feat, bump your Dex to 20 as fast as possible. All the extra feats in the world won't help you if you can't hit the target.

Mike Kilo As myself and a fellow local DM say, "Create a WHO. Then make the WHAT." In other words, come up with a person, then make the mechanics to fit that person. So instead of "I'm playing a multiclass Warlock Paladin with a Greatsword."...I'm playing "Aesir the Fallen. I saw what they did to my betrothed. My fellow knights stood there...and did nothing...because of their oath. I've may a new oath, but not to an order. No, this oath I might regret, but not before getting Elona's soul back." Then the DM knows WHO I am. He knows my motivation. He gets a feel for my character. Now he can deal with me like a living thing, not just numbers on a page.
@MikeKilo1969

That is spot on and the way I usually make my characters as well. But I love the who/what line and will use that in the future. Then you let the character develop naturally instead of planning out to level 20 during generation. Brother, I think you and I would enjoy playing in the same group.

I was under the impression that (RAW) thrown weapons do not qualify as ranged weapons. According to Jeremy Crawford (and how I interpret the PHB) a thrown weapon is a melee weapon that can be used to make a ranged attack. Due to it not being a ranged weapon it does not qualify for Archery, the -5/+10 of sharpshooter, and if it isn’t a finesse weapon it doesn’t qualify for sneak attack.
@000Dragon50000
@000Dragon50000 7 лет назад
For using Daggers, I'd go for Swashbuckler Rogue, and a couple other things, dip into Cleric (War) for Divine Favour, Magic Initiate Wizard for access to Green-Flame Blade and Find Familiar. On top of that, the Dual-Wielder feat is always necessary for this kind of character. (Even if it doesn't mesh with GFB, you still need it for when you throw the daggers instead.) Just stack as many other dice on top of the attack as possible so that the d4 isn't even noticeable. Again, I just like to re-iterate, there's no need for Rogues to be Criminals, this character could be a scholar or a warrior with a peculiar fighting style or whatever.
@shaynecarter-murray3127
@shaynecarter-murray3127 5 лет назад
Id go fighter 5 (champion) for the crits and extra attack and rogue 15 for all that sneak attack. Plus rogue get an extra feat at 10, so you don't really "lose" a feat. You cam really only throw 2 daggers a round, but one is going to do 8d6 sneak attack damage plus double crit chance. And use that bonus action for cunning action hide to get advantage to make up for not taking the archer fighting style.

Question. Can you hold a dagger in one hand, and a dart in another? If so, you could reskin the dart into a throwing knife, since it has the same range, does the same damage, and it qualifies as a ranged weapon for the archery fighting style and the sharpshooter feat.

few errors on this guys: * Archery doesn't work for daggers because a thrown dagger is a ranged attack from a melee weapon. Archery only works on ranged weapons. The only reason for that specific wording is to eliminate things like daggers and spears, handaxes, throwing hammers, and tridents. * Sharpshoter doesn't work well with a dagger. The first two bullet points work fine. The last is worded specifically to eliminate any thrown melee weapons (just like archery). * The dueling fighting style would be more effective later in the game than two weapon fighting. There may be some argument over the exact timing of the fighting style related to throwing that one weapon in hand, but it isn't expressly against the rules like with archery or sharpshooter. Two weapon fighting is amazing extra damage at low levels, and the damage benefit diminishes dramatically at later levels (unless you're looking at having something like a flaming dagger for both hands and using hunter's mark for extra damage on attacks from either hand)

@zero11010
@zero11010 7 лет назад
MrMetalpunx Personally, I would allow them to draw darts freely. This would function like drawing and firing an arrow with a bow. If the 1D4 dart started to somehow seem unfair compared to a 1D6 shortbow with superior range or a 1D8 longbow with incredible range and less commonly provided proficiency ... well, then I'd look at it I guess. I don't know if there's a wrong way to handle that though. I think there's an argument to be made for the difficulty of drawing and throwing in rapid succession. In older editions it would have been in line to provide a negative modifier for subsequent attacks to add an element of realism. While you can certainly do this with 5E it seems like they've really intentionally done away with all those little separate modifiers you would get to an attack in favor of advantage or disadvantage (with a few exceptions, of course). I think a lot of that is silly though. In 3.5 and 4E it was really common to have thrown magic weapons return after being thrown. It sure makes sense to me and I miss it. So, it's a feature I attach to thrown weapons. The idea of "yeah, magic items are rare and these are incredibly valuable ... so I'm just going to throw this dagger/dart/javelin/spear/trident/hammer/axe at you now ... please don't anyone pick this up and run away with it, thanks!"

Aside from the comments pointing out that a dagger is not a ranged weapon but is, instead, a melee weapon with the thrown property, the fact that it is a finesse weapon is being ignored. That means that focusing only on dex builds is not necessary. The finesse property means that you can wield a dagger with either dexterity OR strength, and that includes making a range attack with the thrown property.

As a DM, I would consider re-flavoring "Crossbow Expert" feat to be Dagger Expert. Using the same description of the feat and replacing the word crossbow for dagger. I feel it would not be game breaking but would allow for a easier low levels. Otherwise I worry It would feel under powered till at least 4th lvl.

-this feat would do nothing for using daggers. Daggers require no ammunition, so bullet point 1 is pointless You can make a melee attack with a dagger, making bullet point 2 pointless Bullet point 3 is pointless, as it is basically a reflavored twin weapon fighting.- actually no, you're right, this is the way to fix it Impalement Expert * You may draw a thrown weapon with the light or finesse property as part of an attack you make with one. * Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn't impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls. * When you use the Attack action and attack with a one-handed weapon, you can use a bonus action to attack with a thrown weapon that you are holding, so long as it has the light or finesse property. (this excludes javelins, spears, nets and tridents)

dylan schuler I agree this feat needs to exist, I'd substitute no disadvantage for long range for ability to fire close range without penalty because it would be more helpful with the poor range of thrown weapons and you can make a melee attack with the dagger in your hand. I just want a good dagger build, so you can... you know... play like the rogue they show in 5e at the beginning of the rogue section. no knife throwing, just melee combat with knives. since 1h sword is just overall better its pointless to use a dagger or knife for anything other than throwing or rp escaping which you could just as easily rp the escape using your skills without it.
@y2a1979
@y2a1979 6 лет назад
A good dagger build isn't hard, although your point about shortswords would still be true, since they would work in the same build. But it's the roleplaying aspect that makes the difference. If you're looking for pure stats, just about any build using daggers can be copied and made slightly more damaging by substituting in shortswords. But if you want your character to be a dagger fighter, make him or her a dagger fighter because it's what you want to play. In the game world the characters don't know the damage dice of the weapons, they just learn to fight with a certain type of weapon.
@AdeptPaladin

eh... rogues don't care about weapon choices beyond attack options. crossbows give them range and an extra attack (with a feat), whips give them reach, daggers give them versatility for ranged or melee. The biggest damage is from their sneak attack dice.

If you manage to start your turn with 2 daggers, you can throw them on your turn and draw 2 before the end of your turn to retain the +1 to AC until the end of the round. Rangers work because they have so much competiiton for the bonus action you're not gonna make too much of a TWF. Hunter's Mark, Ensnaring Strike, Hail of Thorns are all compatible with daggers. You can even use the Dueling Fighting Style because you can just throw 2 daggers without needing an off hand weapon by drawing 2 each turn.

Half-Elf Urchin Ranger (beast conclave since UA ranger is AL legal) with Sharpshooter H-elf to pick up some extra skills (suggest performance so you're like an urchin/entertainer), darkvision, fey ancestry, and you can choose two +1 stats. Urchin because you get stealth, sleight of hand, and theive's tools so you have good exploration/role-play ability Ranger because the UA ranger is a solid class for mobility, skills, and at 2 you get fighting styles, while Archery only works with ranged weapons, you could easily refluff darts as throwing daggers (same damage and range) if you really want, or, you can go with two-weapon fighting so your off-hand gets ability mod to damage (which I think would be better than the increased accuracy in the long run, but I have no math to support that, just a suspicion). The reason I suggest ranger beast conclave is because if you run out of "ammo" you can still be dealing damage while you recover daggers, and it helps to keep you at range, and you can teach it perform as well, so when you're doing your knife throwing show to earn money to cover your stay in town your pet adds a bit of extra flair and panache. This also has the benefit of the urchin's feature (city secrets, travel faster in cities) combined with natural explorer and the typical ranger skillset, you're a very effective guide everywhere except dungeons. This also has the advantage of being a super great reason to MC into rogue to grab sneak attack, letting you get in some solid damage when combined with hunter's mark and sharpshooter. Pet is a great distraction to set up hiding, and to enable sneak attack, and can help you giving you advantage if you really need to pump out damage, and can still get an attack off with its reaction. I would go probably 8 ranger 8 rogue, 4 fighter (4 ranger, 2 rogue, 2 fighter, 4 ranger, 4 rogue, 2 fighter, 2 rogue), and for archetypes on fig and rogue I'd likely choose Thief if you want mobility, Arcane Trickster to snag good cantrips like minor illusion and features like mage hand legerdemain, but there's always swashbuckler, and assassin as well, and for fighter you really can't go wrong with battlemaster or champion. Eldritch knight could be cool to pick up shield. ASIs I'd invest in are dual-wielder and then sharpshooter and then stat bumps to top off dex and con, don't bother with save spells, makes you too MAD, so either auto-hit, interact dispel, or heals and self-buffs. Great video guys.

This is a cool build! You guys should do more of these multiclass build videos. All this theory-crafting gets me thinking about how I would build a knife thrower. As others have mentioned, monks are a completely viable dagger fighter, way of the open or way of the shadow (if you don't have to worry about being AL legal) with a few rogue and ranger levels sprinkled in, would be pretty awesome. But if you don't have to worry about being AL legal, I don't have it fully worked out what the level breakdown would be I think an interesting spin would be to take 3 levels bard, college of swords. You get the two-weapon fighting style, plus the Blade Flourishes (Trick Shooter's Flourish is too perfect for this build), plus some added magic fits perfectly for a entertainer. Maybe 3-bard, 3-rouge, 3-ranger, 11-fighter, but that comes at the cost of a whole slew of ASIs.

The guy in question is playing this in the Adventurer's League, which means he's probably doing a published adventure, and none of those ever go all the way to 20th level. Even the highest you ever go, is 12th, and that's really stretching it, and would require you to be working in a smaller party so you get a larger share of the experience, in addition to having to show up to every session, which people in the Adventurer's League often don't consistently.

@JayneCobb88
@JayneCobb88 4 года назад
Just talk with the DM about ignoring the drawing weapons rule. Bow users have to draw an arrow, nock it, draw the bow, aim and loose for each attack. Dagger fighters just have to draw and throw. Besides, mechanically it’s a trade off. Bows get a larger damage die and MUCH longer range but daggers can get an extra attack.

Some sort of way to get the daggers to come back would be good too, whether through magic daggers themselves or some spell or ability. That might even take care of the re-arming issue. Liam's character in season 1 of Critical Role had that ability. 👍

Could you make a video on possible ways a party of brave adventures could discover an abandoned mindflayer colony? I'm running OotA with a group of friends and I have an idea for an encounter where they find a mindflayer complex filled with dead illithids and their thralls. A horde of demons ripped their way into the material realm right above the elder brain and killed every one in the complex except the mindflayer tadpoles. As the party explores the complex they realize their being stalked by a nautilid (the naming might be off, I'm talking about the giant mindflayer tadpole that recently got rules). I just can't seem to think of a reason for the party to be able to find such a place when illithid hives are known for being well hidden.

So im playing a living campaign for a setting called Arcanis. My character is level 3. First level was Barbarian and 2nd and 3rd are fighter. I'm considering not going back to barbarian untill I get the stat bump from level 4 of fighter, mainly because with the stat bump my ac will go to 18. What can I push for as I progress with this build? stats are... STR 16, DEX 13 CON 17 INT 8 WIS 12 CHA 8. No armor, with a shield and either a warhammer or a long sword as my weapon. I'm duelist right now for fighter. The only feat that would be very advantageous to me right now is charger. As my race gives me a natural horn attack as part of my dash action.

This is pretty easy build IMO just go Rogue + Sharpshooter + Dual Wield + Martial Adept (for Precision Attack). All he has to do is be in a position to get advantage on his attacks. The "Sneak Attack" damage plus the precision that assures to attack hits. You really only need 4 levels of Ranger/Hunter.

I like the idea of a dex paladin for a character that mostly just fights in your face, take defender fighting style and mid game when you get improved diving smite, Your Damage will be good enough. When you feel like it you could throw your knife and if it hits use a divine smite. It just seems really badass as a paladin, you attack the first guy fuck him up with two rapier hits possibly defeating him, and then taking out the next guy with a smite dagger. I’d say go vengeance or conquest.

@tootsmcdunno5244

The dagger is a finesse weapon, so you can use strength to throw it. In any event, you can't use Divine Smite when throwing the dagger. When you throw it, it's a ranged attack using a melee weapon, and Divine Smite only works with a melee weapon attack.

Nomad Mystic with the Nomadic Arrow discipline? It ignores anything that gives you disadvantage with ranged attack, and gives you the ability to pump your ranged attack (not indefinitely) up to 7d10 once each turn. The description says "ranged weapon." So a dagger should be allowable. Even at point blank, you could still throw it if you want to pump the damage rather than making the melee attack. With a bit of thinking, you could go straight class mystic and still essentially ignore INT, allowing your to pump your DEX and CON and even another stat if you wanted. All you'd have to do is choose your disciplines and talents as non-contested abilities so that you don't have to use your INT bonus as a spell attack or challenge to saving. So basically, you're using the class abilities as buffs/heals so that they're never contested.

@zero11010 7 лет назад
Because the part of sharpshooter that people like (the third bullet point) does not work for daggers. The wording for it states ranged weapons only. A dagger is a melee weapon that you're using for a ranged attack. Generally speaking though, a monk with daggers would pretty much be just as effective as any other monk. You can take mobility to mitigate opportunity attacks when running by. This would allow you to use your attack action for your dagger throws (monk weapon) and still allow you move into, and potentially back out of, melee range for the bonus unarmed attacks.

The real problem with any extra attack thrower in 5e is the number of monsters that are resistant or immune to non-magical weapons. And not that realism has much to do with this game, but is it really that much more troublesome or time consuming to produce three knives and throw them than it is to draw a longer arrow out of a quiver, draw a hundred pound pull weight bowstring, and shoot three times? I've got my doubts.

Even with all that effort, an archer is still better. As is a dual hand crossbow user with the archery fighting style and the Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter feats. The only reason to play a dagger throwing specialist is for flavor in 5e, because no matter how good you can make them, you can easily make other options better. Hell, a SorLock with eldritch blast/agonizing blast, hex, spell sniper, and quickened spell would mop the floor with a dagger fighter

While Sharpshooter technically doesn't apply to thrown weapons (in regards to +10 damage), my DM allowed it. Otherwise, you're absolutely correct.....it's a pointless build other than flavor.
@ShamanCore23
@ShamanCore23 7 лет назад
Like it has allready been said in the other comments, this build does'nt work because thrown weapon are range attack but are not range weapon. So neither archery, neither the sharpshooter -5/+10 works with dagger. They are mixing two different build in one. The dagger thrower and the dart thrower. Having though about it some time ago, my conclusion was that to make it work you really want to go human variant with the two weapon feat to draw two weapon a turn (daggers) or the sharpshooter feat for the -5/+10 (dart). If you go dagger, fighter and the two weapon fighting style is a strong pick at level 1. A dip in warlock offer hex to up the damage output. Monk is gonna slowly increase the damage dice of the daggers. Ranger offer hunters mark and other benefit. Rogue has sneak attack. Note that in most cases, strengh can be used instead of dex. Also there is a lot of d6 weapon that can be thrown or be reskin as "dagger" (the handaxe is both light and thrown, but i think it is only a strengh weapon). If you choose dart, you can go for the same kind of build mostly but archery become tempting. So there the idea presented on the video would work. The catch is that you kinda need two feat and fighting style to make it work. So it's between sharpshooter and archery or two weapon feat and fighting style, at least at first. Just note that dart are not monk weapon, other than that everything else would work the same. The precision manoeuvre is a nice way to compensate for the -5/+10, the feint manoeuvre both get rid of disadvantage in melee range and add 1d8 to dmg, so battlemaster is tempting, but after a level one in fighter, everything from rogue to tanger or warlock can work. It is just like a whip master, it is never gonna be optimsed. (and if you wanna build a whip master, just take the two weapon feat and give him a rapier in the off hand, you have wasted a feat but you have style).
@CaptainDCap
@CaptainDCap 7 лет назад
Darts are simple weapons, so they are monk weapons. -To make this build work, you need the dual wielder feat, and reskin darts as daggers. With the dual wielder feat, Dart = Dagger literally 100% mechanically, unless you use them at melee range, where you cannot get sneak attack with them.)- actually, scratch that, dual wielder does not allow you to wield two darts, as they are not melee weapons. So you'll need DM fiat either way. Human variant, Battlemaster Fighter 5 gets you both Sharpshooter and Dual Wielder, which are the integral feats, as well as a big hitdice, Extra Attack and all weapon proficiencies, so you can still use a longbow if you can't reach your target with your Dart-daggers. UA Ranger 3 gets you the Colossus slayer 1d8, Hunter's mark, longstrider and all the lvl 1 ranger goodies, which I feel outshine Warlock dip, though warlock gets their spells back on a short rest, so you could weigh your options. At most, though, take 2 points of warlock, more is a waste. Monk is only good for bumping your dart-dagger damage dice, all other monk features are a total waste, compared to rogue. It's a trap, don't dip monk. Invest 6 levels into assassin rogue for 3d6 sneak attack dice, expertise, and amazing synergy with the ranger first turn advantage, and you can use another ASI to get the Martial Adept feat for another superiority die, then continue down the fighter tree all the way to Extra Attack (2) What does this do for you? (Fighter 11, Rogue 5/6, Ranger 3/4) (Or Fighter 11/12, Rogue 6/7 and Warlock 2) Ranger for synergy with rogue, Warlock for a longer Hex uptime compared to ranger's HM . 1 attack for 1d4 + 4d6 (Sneak attack + HM) + 1d10 (Superiority) + 1d8 (Colossus slayer) + 5 for an average of 29/30 damage if you are at 20 dex, or more if you factor in the Sharpshooter bonus. 3 attacks for a total of 3d4 + 3d6 + 3d10 + 15 for an average of 49/50 without the sharpshooter bonus. Because of this, Twin Weapon fighting Style usually outclasses Archery, but you can go Champion in stead of Battlemaster and get both if you like. Adding more dice is usually better, though. An average damage of 80 (+ a possible 40) per round is pretty sweet. The only real restricting factors are your superiority dice, and that RAW you are limited in how many daggers you can draw per turn, but most DM's are willing to overlook this, because Arrows can be drawn, nocked and fired for free, while drawing and throwing a dagger is MUCH QUICKER THAN THAT. That said, as soon as you run out of superiority dice (You have 5, or 6 with the feat), you're best off switching to your trusty longbow, or your damage drops off dramatically. 4d8 per round is better than 4d4 + 1d8, especially considering the longbow doesn't require a bonus action to dish out such damage. Another big downside to this build is the reliance on feats. The build doesn't come online until your second ASI, and you get at most 2 more ASI's, meaning your ability scores lag behind the rest of your party unless you rolled well on them.

@shanerooney7288
@shanerooney7288 5 лет назад
11th level Horizon Walker gains the *"Distant Strike"* ability. Which, to be frank, is useless for a knife thrower. If you attack twice against two different creatures, you get a third attack against a third creature for free. The problem is you have already thrown away your two knives by this point. ..... although.... if you melee attack _and then_ throw the remaining 2 daggers it could work. The teleportation feature of this ability is okay, not as good as the 3rd attack, but is still a plus on an otherwise not-so-useful ability. *"Pact of the Blade"* is great for summoning a weapon to your hand, but it takes a complete turn to do. Meaning you are still stuck drawing a new dagger every 2nd turn. I see no reason why this is any better than just drawing your daggers from your belt, other than the very slight possibility you might run out of belt-supplied daggers. Level 5 warlock and Level 4 fighter means you are missing out on the (sub)class features from Level 6 warlock and level 7 fighter. So may I suggest either 6Warlock/3Fighter or 2Warlock/7Fighter. Personally I'll suggest 6W/3F/11Ranger so that you avoid overlap of the "extra attack"; _and_ because the *"Know Your Enemy"* ability from level 7 fighter isn't as impressive as some level 6 warlock abilities. Speaking of which, which patron are you going with for the warlock? May I suggest "The Celestial" if you wish to focus on fire magic more than knives (plus medic abilities) Or "The Archfey" if you like to teleport. Or "The Great Old One", which synergieses best with the Stab-throw-throw method of using 'Distant Strike' Or "Hexblade".... which is probably the best since you can completely dump Dex for weapon attacks and use Charisma instead. But for your armor class and dex saving throws having a lower Dex isn't great, so it still isn't a perfect choice. Back to the Fighter, it doesn't offer anything worthwhile. Except for combat maneuvers, which can be achieved from the "Martial Adept" feat. Meaning you could instead take "Fighter:Champion" for better crit chance. Or even just ditch the fighter all together (but that would mean not taking 'Two Weapon Fighting' ) Due to Multiclassing rules, you will need a minimum of 13 in Charisma, Dexterity, and Wisdom. You can get that at level 1 with the standard array, so it isn't hard. But these are the _minimum_ and you will have trouble with specializing. Wisdom if you want to specialize in Ranger spells, Charisma for Warlock spells, and Dexterity for the weapon. You can have one, maybe two, but not all three. _________________________________________ After reading over everything and thinking a bit.... It isn't so bad. Dagger throwing isn't exactly a viable strategy to begin with. So the drawbacks of this build are partly due to that. 11 Ranger: Horizon Walker. 6 Warlock: Great Old One + Pact of the Blade 3 Fighter: Champion + Two-Weapon Fighting Feats = Dual Wielding, Martial Adept Warlock Invocations = Tomb of Levistus, One with Shadows, Cloak of Flies

I don't think the -5, +10 from Sharpshooter applies to thrown weapons based on what errata says unfortunately. Only the first two bullets apply. But that's still really good. Increases range, ignores cover. I do like the concept of this build though. I think it also works if you want to make a Dart or Javelin Thrower for a different flavor of it. I especially like the idea of a Javelin-based thrower so I could say I'm using an atlatl. Those things are awesome. Archery fighting style would work on Darts because they're actually ranged weapons and then lets Sharpshooter apply. Duelist fighting style works with Thrown Daggers, Javelins, Handaxe, etc., because they're still classified as melee attacks. So either way you want to do this build, it's still interesting, the weapon choice just opens up a different style to it. EDIT: Thinking on it, I suppose the two-handed fighting is the fighting style you'd want over either of those two styles. Nevermind. Still fun to have options though.

'The range weapon debate is stupid. So as written a monk can defect a arrow speeding at him because it is a "range" weapon but he cant deflect a slow ass spear because it is a melee thrown weapon. Also as someone mentioned he could deflect a firearm or a cannon but again not a trident....Also a dart is a range weapon but I cant keep it in my hand and stick someone in the head? Sometimes you have to look at the intention not the letter of the law.

Why didn't they mention paladin at all? The best class for throwing characters? With 11th level paladin you get +cha to all saves, +1d8 to every hit from improved smite (even at range), second aura (I prefer ancients for spell dmg resistance), defensive FS, lay on hands, lot of usefull spells, this seems like much more, than fighter will give me! So I prefer Ranger 8 / paladin 12 multiclass for colossus slayer, 2WFS, H's mark,..., also dual wielder for 3 attacks 2 first turns of combat even without casting HM and enough spells to smite in melee if needed. Nerdarchy build seem realy lame to me...

spending a feat to get multiple weapon drawing is very bad, a magical throwing dagger would fix it much easier
