Listen to u people I swear u people love being locked down by tyrannical governments u people think it's normal I think u people need to move to a communist regime somewhere u would love being dictated by your masters
Those of us living in a Western culture, sometimes forget that places like this still exist in the world... thanks to RU-vid and those men and women willing to risk their lives making video tapes like this awesome one. We at least are able to grasp some of the poverty and disparity on this Earth we all share. Thanks for the effort used in creating this documentary.!
@@hindustan.bharat Oh but it is Pajeet, it surely is. You see, your countrys average iq is like 75 and theirs is 65. That's not that much of a difference, is it?
Lived there 12 years and worked there FIFO for another 5. A rewarding place to live; most people are very kind, helpful and tolerant. All the back roads are 4-wheel drive experiences but one learns. Have driven clapped-out vehicles around the place; a sense of humour helps plus a little mechanical ingenuity. Beautiful country. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and tank yu tru, PNG.
Great video. I was in PNG for a couple of months in the late 80's, it wasn't as developed as shown here but was still quite dangerous although there wasn't as many guns as now. Every man and his dog had a machete tho'. I did a lot of trecking in the western highlands, saw some amazing sights, met some colourful and amazing people. I witnessed village/tribal battles but at that time they used arrows, machetes and spears which resulted in horrific injuries but fewer fatalities. There were some scary times! Glad I came across this video.
@@mohd2000000 Yeah, where else in the world can you watch tribal battles with arrows, machetes and spears. Its like playing mount and blade bannerlord, but only in real life hehe
One of the best documentaries of the Highlands Regions of Papua New Guinea, I really enjoying watching it and I commend the people who plan and produce this documentary 🥰🥰
anthony wong its not as bad once you at it. summer driving in california fruit farms is not any better. bees hit and explode all the honey on your winshield. more vipers you use, worse it gets. i rarerly clean it.
When we were in PNG we were meeting a bulk carrier as my hubby is a engineer. I told the driver from the airport it was my birthday and when we got to the hotel we were staying at. He turned to me and said” please madam do not leave here, it’s protected & if u leave it you will probably get killed. We stayed there all night and the next day we had to quickly leave as war had started. We were on a flocker plane & were taken to a island and the ship picked us up there. We had to get in a boat at night then climb the rope stairs to get on the ship. 8 months later when we returned home from travelling around the world, while hubby worked. We heard about all the massacres that happened in Papua New Guinea only days after we left - it’s was heart breaking but felt safe back home…. Now China has bought into there country and Solomon Islands They won’t want to cheat them and just use Chinese workers as these ppl are poor and hate being told what to do. They are also hugely built. They won’t think twice about shooting a Chinese worker and if the Chinese send army over there ……. I’d put my money on all the villages
I am an expatriate who have been living in Papua New Guinea for the last 23 years....we need take this documentary with " a pinch of salt". Its very obvious from the beginning e.g " why there is caucasian translating"...when the Papua New Guinean is speaking good English. There is more dangerous roads in the National Geography channels.🤔
*@Jaya Bala* Sure ........there's even more violent crime in Uncle Sam's utopia ,but that's no reason to sugarcoat this just to stay politically "correct"......It's not so much a "caucasian translation" ,the narrator is also telling a story . Personally I have no problem following their English, regular viewers might have a bit of problem following "patois" English.19:16😄 Don't want to be a trainspotter , but it's amusing when you claim _"the Papua New Guinean is speaking good English"_ , when your comment contains already about five incorrect spellings.👍🥴
Its easy to criticize png & its citizen's. Thank the png governments past & present are to blame for the economic mess. Png people survive as best as possible in the broken, corrupt system they have inherited. Png people are good, kind, considerate caring hard working. Sure you get rotten apples in the bunch just like any where else on this planet. My father had a small business before independence It was a sad day when we departed for Australia. I had an wonderful childhood growing up in p.n.g. Many good friends & memories.
I'm a Papua New Guinean woman. I live in the Milne Bay Province. I've always sympathized for people living in the projects because seriously, I love my life here. So it was intriguing to see your comment. I would never trade what I have in PNG for life in the projects. I'm just saying.
This is the best documentary channels and if not for one simple reason and that is the commentator takes the time to repeat what the Foreigner say. Which case my eyes on the actual video instead of trying to read the words at the bottom depending on how fast they put them across. Thank you to the channel
I worked in PNG for all of 2014 in the oilfield. Incredibly proud people but very poor. Their Government is incredibly corrupt. As an American I was absolutely respectful of the people and in turn they returned that respect 10 fold. The country itself is beautiful, thick canopy jungle with waterfalls. Lots of WWII history on that island with relics of WWII equipment spread throughout the jungle. I did what i could to help the local villages and native people. If you want to get a kick out of something look up "The YAM Fesitval" where women take control for the whole festival and get to choose what man they want! lmao
@@GusgusA1 I was sad I didn't see any scary videos on your page. Why not post some? If you are working over 60 hours a week, and you have already taken video when driving there is no reason. Thanks.
Extraordinary documentary on the dangerous road as Papua New guinea. I think the drivers must be challenged in crossing those roads. 🚐🚌🚍🚚🚛🛤thanks for sharing.
My comments were based on landscape of the country witch is absolutely gorgeous, I think the respected viewer thoughts are based on BBC report, the population of PNG is more then 8 millions, if half are men do you suggest we have more then 4 million abusers, please get your facts in order
I think papua new guinea is beautiful place with beautiful people. Its sad how these people were assimilated to western culture which they are not accostume to.
i met an indian chief in northern canada. he said,"a lot of us indians complain about white people but im getting plumbing in my house next year and that's just great, especially in the winter I won't have to do my business in -40". There is loss of diversity but western culture spreads because it is a collection of wonderful technology more than anything. Its easy to romanticize a culture that we are not familiar with but if 20% of your kids die before they reach 2 years old and masses of people die in a bad growing season, western culture doesn't seem so bad and that is why it spreads.
It brings roads, access to medical professionals ,life to little Villages where you can buy the things that you need now, where before they probably have to travel some miles, but sadly, some that don't want to assimilate have to rape, kill, and extort from those who work hard to make everybody's life easier, like a tree falling in a very strategic place in the middle of the road, but a few truck drivers can't get together and move it themselves,no, the locals have to do it for you.... at a price. the scary part was when the guy said: " at least we don't rape the women like they do in that other area" and the police are definitely getting a little piece of that pie too, sadly
Charlie K you think us white Europeans or Americans are any better ? We have caused the most horrific wars man kind has ever seen in the past 300 years with this new ''technology'' called guns and bombs, all society and civilisations have fought amongst each other, none is better then the other, wake up !
U know what is Australia is called? Australiasia. U wanna know y? Cause Asia continent starts from all the way north in Russia & ends south at Australia. Papua is before Australia. South pacific is after New Zealand. Way off. Learn the georgraphy properly. Don't shame urself with what u were brainwashed by the west. They did that to everyone for centuries to divide everyone & create chaos so they can laugh from afar.
PNG is part of Oceania. Australasia is a region of Oceania comprised mostly of Australia, New Zealand, Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. Asia ends with Indonesia. I am not defending the definition. E.g. Indonesia is a bit obscure, simply not just defined by tectonic plates. I think you should learn geography yourself before insulting other people. Personally the issue is not the fact that Asia as you claim is being divided but rather the nonsense of how a large swathe the entire world gets categorised simply as Asia (comprised of India, China, central Asia, East Asia, Middle-East, Southeast Asia), but little Europe gets their own continent lol.
& when did oceania was to be known by them? When australia & new zealand don't know where they belong to. That's when. Look, all this happens cause the West, don't like it, hence they've been causing chaos & diversion to all of asia. If asia did come together as one, it'll be a total devastation of their World Dominance. It ain't got nothing to do with techtonic plates. We r who we r on this side of the world & that is a no no to the west cause they knew that the east is way bigger & diverse than them. Do u think Australia & New Zealand natives asked for white people to come & screw everything up? Get ur history right about who is from where. & what they did thru out the human history. Who created all this unnecessaryness of the world we living in now. Your peoples jealousy & greed from the time of ur forefathers did this! & u the descendants just ride along with it. Inflicting all sorts of stuff that we don't want & need. Few centuries gone by & u still going about with it. Claiming it's a democracy & all that bullshit u threw at us, while dividing us all. This is what u did! Is the world a better place for all eversince that? No!
The original documentary was in French, they probably translated the translation. English wasn't always spoken though, many people were speaking Tok Pisin which uses many English words but is mostly unintelligible to English speakers
Daniel Detweiler - The tree was not felled to block the road. PNG is a tropical country with high rainfall and landslides are common in the higlands. In this picture the tree that blocked the road is as result of the landslide that brought the tree with it. In such case those who live close by cut the tree and clear the road for passage but some fees are charged and collected from the road users for the labor put in. If the trees were felled intentionally to block the road, the police personell that were on the ground will be in action. Policeman looked on meaning the tree came onto the road by landslide or simply this is a stunt for the TV crew filming this.
I am an american missionary kid who lived in PNG for 3 years from 2020-2023. Beautiful country and beautiful people but wouldnt want to live there again
@Charisma_2XP I think I would. I know where you are coming from though...speak big when I dont have the $$$ but what would I really do if that $$$ was available.
I have no idea why there is an English translation for most parts of this video when most of the people are already talking in English. Quite condescending really. For those individuals in this video whose English may be slightly more challenging for individuals to decipher, subtitles would have been a much more useful option. A lot of the original character of the documentary is lost to a slightly comedic and slightly ridiculous voice translation which is attempting to emulate drama. .
Most likely because the original voice-over was in French -- right at the beginning of the video, you can see it's a Tony Comiti Production, a company based in Paris: fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Comiti_Productions
I was thinking a similar thing. I was like he didn't say "Quote" he said "Quote" like we cant hear them changing the gentlemen's words....Media, sheesh
Seems like there are quite a bit of opportunities in underdeveloped countries, especially providing transportation, be it via road, air or water.. immagine if you'd have access in all three..
I've got a lot of friends from PNG. Very nice guys, but violent when they've had a few drinks in them. Guess you've just gotta know your boundaries with them, and don't be near when they get wasted😂
"Before, we use spears and arrows for war and just pull them out of our bodies. It was a kind of sports. Now, we use machine guns and it's a bit more dangerous." Badassery level 101% pure and undiluted.
Big up to the truck driver do a honest day work for a honest day pay no crime in that but the native need to plant the land to be healthy than does box food so much beautiful land
I was wondering why he felt the need to translate when they were speaking English!!!! He did a good job narrating where needed but most of people spoke clear English. Why are some people getting so defensive. Chillout
His a pommie, thats how they speak, little on the painful side. Should have allowed the locals that spoke english to be heard. I could hear what the people were saying while he spoke. Some of his information was incorrect, but still a good documentary. Thankyou for sharing.
This is a nice documentary. Very original presents the situation as it is, with a funny commentator who made some few mistakes when explaining the names of places. From the content, it is clear that this video was shot before the 2012 General Elections because Mr Gerard Phillips was a candidate at that time. The road to Gembogl is also totally different now from what you can see in this video. Road works started in 2013. First 10 km to Mandime we completed and sealed by 2015. And today the Chinese are working on the road. Much has improved. Nevertheless, the video is great. One striking thing you see is that despite the daily hardships, struggles that people experience, they always smile and laugh.
Even in a country whose government had made plenty of mistakes, and that after a colonial era where the rulers didn't care a whit about the people, PNG is progressing.
It is the typical thing. Once they have been subtly invaded, they put the religious dogma there, take the natural resource and make certain the aboriginals stay in despair and ignorance while they slowly suffer and die.
+Cosmic They also get a nice state pension btw. I met a man from Papau New Guinea driving uber. He says they get a lot of state $$$ in exchange for their allegiance
Papua new guinea is in Melanesia between Australia and Philipines. I think the reasoning is that the closest continent is Asia. This is a common thing when classifying island nations. That is why the Caribean is referred to as part of the Americas and Seychelles is considered of Africa and Ireland is considered of Europe
I'm a black African so i'm not trying to be racist or anything when I say this, but all the people of New Guinea seriously look alike. Like as if they're literally all from one family lol. It's a bit strange.
It's believed their modern human DNA came from a small group of colonists a long time ago, plus they have a lot of Denisovan DNA that gives them all a distinctive look. Basically yeah, they're all distant(or not so distant) cousins on that island.
The "International Community" unfortunately cannot help them because there is no oil, gold, diamonds, cobalt, etc to steal. In other words, there's no sufficient reason to colonize them YET
