www.crosstrainingenduro.com Have you ridden a Honda XR200R and survived?! There is an old battered version of this extreme enduro animal in Canada. I attempt to ride it every time I visit, so here is our our Honda XR200R hard enduro beast review and test ride... After World War 2, the Japanese continued their weapons programs in deep secret underground bunkers with the XR200 series, creating engines of such devastating power that they were declared illegal, hunted down, and boiled down as scrap metal. The Honda XR200R was such a beast. However the rise of hard enduro has seen a fresh demand for these deadly weapons, as a new breed of rider emerges, with the small brain and oversized gonads needed to try and control these wild beasts, these XR200R weapons of individual destruction for individuals crazy enough to ride them. If you are man or woman enough for a Honda XR200R, then gird your loins and jump on.

The extreme enduro Honda XR 200R had a 195 cc (11.9 cu in) engine that was shared with the Honda ATC 200x but with a different camshaft and carburetor. This hard enduro version of the XR200 engine ran 10:1 compression ratio and was oversquare. For the 1984-85 XR200 model years, the Honda XR200 hard enduro beast had a smaller version of the same 4 valve RFVC engine as the other XR's in the line up. The 200cc RFVC engine shared many parts with the 250cc RFVC engine. For the 1986 model year, Honda reverted to the 2 valve engine that had powered the XR200R before 1984 and variations of the 2 valve engine continued to power the XR200R until the model was dropped altogether. Unlike two strokes, the XR series only needed one input spot of oil instead of two (engine and gas mix). The wild Honda XR200 hard enduro beast that needs a firm hand to master. We have a 1993 xr200 that started life as my daughters bike. We later put a supertrap slip on spark arrestor for a drop of more power. We later installed longer xr250 forks with front disc brake and longer xr250 rear shock, (ebay). This made the bike more fun for everyone to play around on as a camp bike. After all these years and many other racing bikes have come and gone...this bike still remains. Great camp bike...very Bulletproof and anybody can ride her.....she is known as Rhonda. 1st gear is unstallable and 6th gear on 2track trails plenty fast. No power really just fun😉

I love this video. The "old school" stuff ROCKS! When I was a youngin, I had a silver XR-75 and an Elsinore like what was shown at the beginning (1:25 & 1:27). That was before Honda went red on the paint job. I think that Elsinore was a CR-125, but I had the CR-250. Those things were ~screamers~. Again, I loved this video.

I recently bought a mint 1983 XL250R and I absolutely love it. It is 33 years old and everything works perfect (besides for the high beam indicator). I seriously doubt that any bike bought today will still be around in the year 2049. I know the new stuff has way more power and handle better. But even on the new Honda atvs I can see a huge decrease in the long term durability...... But all this aside, I really enjoy these videos.

Can you do some videos on how to upgrade/renew the suspension, install new cam chain tensioners and guides and other critical thinking stuff...valve tuning?...love all your videos...this is the best channel on youtube...the DR 650 stuff is worth it's weight in gold!!!

Mabuhay Anton! I usually only film that XR200 when I get over to Canada occasionally... unfortunately I don't think there are enough of these bikes left to warrant a detailed mods vid, it would be pretty low on the list if I ever started a video series about mods on various bikes. 😢 And I only did the DR650 stuff because the guy doing all the mods for local riders was keen to do the video series.

PAUSE: I need to thank you for commenting on the Corduroy, an enduro I pre-ran, and swept, and worked checkpoints as a kid. My uncle started the race with some friends in 1953 at the dead end of Kingston Road @ the Rouge River valley and he competed on a BSA with 2.5” of suspension travel. He (Don Charters) passed away in April 2020 at 94 years old. He was the longest lived of his crew as all his friends passed over a decade before him. He was and remains a HUGE influence on me and is the main reason I still ride.

I was looking for this video since I wanted to let you know that I finally got my next "new" bike... yep, a 1985 Honda XR250R with dual carb for double the fun and double the trouble rejetting. After many months of asking advices and even getting a video advising me to better Google it since you might already have posted that explaining hahaha I found this bike that haven't seen love for a long time so I decided to be her hero (that and my third world country budget :/ ). Once I have started with the rebuilt, I'll post a video and I hope you have the time to watch my bike in a 2 min video not more not less.

that's great news, you can still have a pile of fun with a third world budget, and even more fun in some ways as you see that uncut gem emerge as you work on her. :)

Too many riders have been killed by the brake weld on these machines to even count them. Unless you can install the unobtanium brake pads, NEVER try to slow one of these beasts down with the stock brakes! Also, a little known fact about the dual ProLink set up... Honda designed the XR200R for NASA so the astronauts could overcome atmospheres with gravity far greater than earth’s. That’s why the suspension is so rigid, and why the machine has so much raw horsepower and torque. When NASA scrapped the manned planetary missions, the need for the machine also went away. Fortunately for us, the ace experimental test pilots who pioneered aircraft that would exceed Mach 10 and 30G inverted pulls were also involved with testing the 200R. According to historians, the sheer testicular magnitude of those test pilots required the Honda’s to be equipped with dual ProLinks. I hope the rider who filmed this survived the extra worldly forces that machine is capable of producing. Prayers for a speedy recovery!

This video killed me. Absolutely hilarious. And to think all along I owned the most powerful bike on the planet. Erroneously, prior to gaining this understanding, I bored it and honed the cylinder head. Nay, I contend there was even more power to be had? Now I know why my knuckles drag on the ground for a week after riding, this thing pulls man, it pulls! I'm ordering an anodized fuel cap though, not sure if I picked anything else up from your videos but, the subliminal man keeps telling me to buy that darn fuel cap! Keep the videos coming! Great tips and cool to watch you guys do things in your videos that are really tough that you just make look easy.

i suspect the modern way to access this killer engine is the AJP bikes as they used slightly updated XR250 engines, philip. another 50cc? sounds like suicide to me.

I laughed all the way through that vid! I'd love to own an old xr200 like that because they are so reliable. ( I had one years ago and I ragged the hell out of it and it never let me down ever ). I currently own a 2000 xr650r and I will never part with it!

My xr200 was so Hot it was literally stollen out of the back of my truck and truck was parked in my driveway. 2 years later I found it 850 miles away from home. Apprently it wasn't that hot.

If there is a dirt bike to have as a fall back bike for trail riding its the xr200r. I use one as a training bike. It never lets me down and with basic maintenance is bullit proof. I don't have to put countless hours on my race bike. The bike in my picture is a crxr200 conversion best combination for new england technical stuff.

Funny. I have the same exact bike. I actually chose this one over others because of the reliability and simplicity. I ride single track mostly, and prefer not to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere. The brakes suffice especially with the engine braking. plenty of power to have a great time, but not too much to get into trouble. and like 220lbs dry so fairly light weight and easy to pick up. The weak point imo is the front forks. In stock form they are damping rod. I installed the race tech gold valves and progressive springs and now the front suspension feels equal to the rear. I've owned newer bigger bikes and had LESS fun than I do on this. Also easy to work on and they made the engines for many years.. because they were bulletproof.
