Great lesson Peter! I've been trying to get a flat to bowed left wrist at impact. Amazing how much harder one can hit the ball. A must for every amateur.

Hi Peter Mike Austin said the shoulders controls whatever the hands and wrist are doing in a golf swing and I think he was right on target with that one. Since if we were to move our shoulders out of sequence with the rest of our body as we are swinging our club back and forth we cannot possibly control our hands and wrists movements anyway. Cheers

Peter - watching your videos from day one- very impressive especially for the older player -- would you please comment on the open to shut as opposed to shut to open ( as used by the current modern player ) wrist movement thanks Allen Lane (83yrs)

Hi Allen, the closing club face helps propel the ball forwards. It doesn’t make sense for a clubface to be doing the opposite as it will reduce the force applied to the ball at impact. Stick with allowing the clubface to close through impact so that you can keep driving the ball as far as you can.

Essentially they are hinging and right wrist extension (bend). Another description. I know I wrestled with understanding flying wedges when I first read about them.

thanks Peter.You seem to affirm that the ""L" created between forearm and shaft from round half back to release over ball is momental.There is no mention of a lead arm/hand "push" down with trail hand/arm "pull" up to effect or maintain the"L" . ?? In play or "DEADLY''.

Sounds deadly to me. It would be an unnecessary manipulation. When the club is moving it is light, so hinging take no effort. Hope that makes sense.

My club comes from the inside but I lose the wrist angle which seems to close the club face at impact. So it seems from your video this is a combination of faulty rotation and hinging. How do I drill myself out of this. It seems to be missed as one of the deadly moves.

It sounds like you’re correct (without seeing your swing). Practice short swings to get the feel of appropriate rotation. You’ll find it isn’t very much. Then build the range of the movement.

With wrists relaxed, wouldnt we just dump the clubhead into the ground? Need to control some hinge to keep the lie of clubhead more square with ground no?

The forces created by the body rotating in the downswing will prevent the club from dumping into the ground. That’s why it’s best to avoid any manipulation.

You could have halved the time on this video by just saying what you perceive should be correctly done in the downswing to correctly make contact with the ball instead of going over incorrect positions that some golfers might do. Basically saying, do this, do this and do this and then hit a couple of balls to see the effect would be much better. Too much yak and no final demonstration of result.

Often people connect to their own swing the errors that are outlined. They can then identify what they need to do to improve. I’ll make sure to hit some shots next time.
