That happened about a mile from my workplace. That young deputy made several mistakes that day and this tape is often used now as a “what not to do” in training. He was extremely lucky as two of the bullets went into his bulletproof vest and a third grazed his head. He was helped by other drivers who saw him laying on the ground.

My husband told me that years ago; I totally didn’t believe him. It was before I could Google it. It came up while we were talking to one of our friends that happened to be a policeman-he confirmed it. Very clever.

One other point to share- don’t flash your lights at oncoming traffic to alert the drivers that a cop is around- Reason: what if your kid was in the trunk of that car that you flashed to slow down to avoid a ticket? 90% of criminals are busted for stupid mistakes and speeding could be the stupid mistake the perpetrator makes.

Everything is accounted for, and is recycled, it’s never for free or to borrow. There has to be chain of the items, where they are, who they are assigned to, how many, etc. No way he didn’t know this if he worked for the county, state, or government. I actually found that little clip pretty telling. He said all the expected things during the interview that suggested he supported law enforcement and the attempts to find the killer, but then whimsically goes out of his way to splash through a puddle as he leaves and turns back to make sure that the reporter/camera person caught that. Contextually that was a complete emotional tone mismatch. He was celebrating, like a child. Wee! Nailed the interview! Now you morons will never catch me! According to some other comment he was a victim of political steamrolling, apparently he had already dropped two monitors off at the courthouse to be used there and was bringing the third to the jail to be used in phone calls. Just spreading what sone other person said in the comments I have no idea if any of its true. But he got far too severe a punishment, if one was even warranted at all, and his plot for revenge was bron of this wrong. He was somewhat a victim, it seems, but I don't think his actions are anywhere near warranted.

Agreed. There's something else going on here, more than just this guy deciding to steal 3 monitors. I can't help but feel that maybe there was a miscommunication somewhere, somehow and someone whom he had gotten into a pissing match at some point used it as an opportunity to f him over. I've seen things like that before....someone steps on someone else's toes (and trust me, I live in Texas, people carry grudges with them over the slightest provocations to their graves). That someone else sits and bids their time, sometimes for years, waiting for the opportunity to get even and when that opportunity presents itself, they jump on it...even if they've forgotten what the provocation was.

I’d believe it. My mom only worked as a paralegal for 6 months (after 2 *years* of night school) because of a frame job that happened to her friend at their law office. Her friend refused sexual advances from one of the (married) partners, and when she threatened to go to HR + tell his wife- she was “coincidentally” arrested for identity theft and fraud. My mom immediately went back to her teaching job after that. That’s why you *always* get everything on tape or in writing! If your boss says you can take home some old monitors- send them an email asking for confirmation on the previously discussed subject. Then make copies of that proof, and keep it somewhere outside of your boss’s/company’s reach.

I don’t know that there was necessarily permission, but there having been an abuse of power to take out someone who supported the opposition would not surprise me. That said, a lot of the murderers we see here will paint themselves as the victim even while doing the deed, so it’s hard to say for sure.

The whole thing smells off, Honestly I get his reaction if they truly railroaded him as it seems like they did. More intelligent would have been to frame the people and destroy their lifes like they did his. But at the same time, I get feeling like no one else would deal out what he felt was just. Still not smart because, well look at the end result... This is exactly why I dont trust anyone who is in a position of "power", because they can deem fit to ruin almost anyones life at any time.

It was definitely petty revenge on McLeland's part because Williams supported his opponent. It's extremely common for employees to take home computers that aren't being used anymore. Williams was a lawyer and could obviously afford computer monitors if he needed one. If he took something that was still in use (or there was some other dispute about taking equipment), all McLeland needed to do was tell him to bring it back. But instead, McLeland deliberately attempted to ruin Williams' life. Calling his Commanding Officer about it really solidifies what his intentions were. And knowing how fucking corrupt DAs and prosecutors are, I guarantee that taking computer monitors was the most innocent thing happening at that office! Sad that McLeland's petty bullshit got his innocent wife murdered. :(

Any proof of that? If he had permission you'd think it would be the first thing he brings up when questioned. His defense is literally "Some places let you do that"....with "that" referring to just walking out of a business with their monitors. Not one time does he mention that he had permission. He would have only gotten a misdemeanor but he refused the offer because he didn't want a misdemeanor on his record. That shit is on him.
