UPDATE THERE WAS SIX DROWNINGS IN ONE WEEK PANAMA CITY BEACH:
Deadly Rip Currents at Panama City Beach: Panama City Beach saw a surge in rip current drownings in June 2024. Over a four-day period, six beachgoers lost their lives to the powerful currents. The victims, all visitors to the area, were caught off guard by the hazardous conditions.
The tragedy began on Thursday, June 21st, when a teenager from Oklahoma was swept away. Three Alabama men followed soon after, succumbing to the current despite posted red flags warning of dangerous swimming conditions. Two more visitors drowned on Sunday, June 24th.
These deaths highlight the dangers of rip currents, especially for unsuspecting swimmers. Rip currents are strong channels of water that flow away from the shore, and can easily pull even strong swimmers out to sea. Always follow beach advisories and swim near a lifeguard if possible.

Please note I had issues uploading this to RU-vid. This video is going up July 1, but the incidents occurred from June 20-June 23.

As a beach lover all my life- I will never understand why people ignore the flags. 😢 I’ve spent thousands to show up and whether it be red tide- or rough water- there have been years we couldn’t get in. Thats nature! That happens. By no means am I saying these people got what they deserved- it’s just such a senseless tragedy that can easily be avoided. My thoughts and prayers are going out to the victims families and the first responders. God bless them for risking their lives to try to save someone else. It has been a rough summer on the gulf coast this year. 😢 As vacationers we are typically there once a year, but those responders and coast guard are out there day in and day out. I can’t imagine the sadness they have witnessed and emotions they themselves go through.

It’s senseless and so preventable but still so sad and devastating. Thank you for staying safe when you come here 🤗

Not everyone knows about the red flags especially vacationers. I was there in PCB vacationing at the time of there drownings and people were out in the water even some were out far.

@@ronthatus it’s crazy! We were in Seista when this happened. The day it happened (before we had heard about the attacks), my husband and I were out in the water discussing how far out some of the people were. They were carrying babies on their shoulders way beyond the 2nd sandbar. I made the comment to my husband that while I knew that was a great place to go shelling - there was no way I’d be out that far. Every beach I have ever been to, they typically have signs explaining the flag system. But, places like Seista that are mainly condos and not just high rise hotels, we are usually in a private beach area- with no lifeguards or flags. I usually go to the Local lifeguards page to check out the flags. The condos usually have books to tell you where to find flag info, but you are right. There are lots of people that go and don’t know or understand them. Some don’t care to research the area either though. And honestly, it could happen in knee deep water or less. It is a risk we take. After my own daughter was bitten in Daytona years ago, we all took a shark class the following year that the local aquarium was doing. The daughter that was bitten, begged us to take the class. That year, none of the other 4 kids got back in the water after they learned how many so close to you that you never know. 🤙 I grew up in Ohio, we vacationed every year. My father grew up going to the beach ever year- my mom went for the first time when she married my dad. They were the kind of parents that could trick you into learning new things while having a great time. I can remember the year that they started to really push the red lights on the beach. He made sure we used nothing but red.
