One thing that makes them so dangerous is that their top predators are tigers and leopards, ambush predators that can easily outrun them and follow them up a tree. So their only option is to fight like hell.
All Bears have claws like that, George Shaw named it Bradypus Ursinus(Sloth Bear) in 1971 believing it to be related to Sloths because they don't have a middle pair of incisor teeth.
Along with the fact they’re way more likely to attack people unprovoked due to living alongside things like leopards and tigers, with the latter having been known to hunt and *eat* them
@@vinboi8053 it's an electric fence but mainly it's due to conditioning. The bears could easily break it but over time they've learned that it hurts so they don't try anymore
I only watch a story about these bears, they live around tiger's and leopards, that's why so violent, if they turn and run, try climbing, both others can do that, so instantly violence !! Tigers and leopards are ambush predators, sloth bear knows, tiger or leopard don't want any injuries so don't mess with the likkle bear....
@@anasevi9456 bob gimly, listen to his true story about the cute bears, OBVIOUSLY joking, but hes used to hunting bears in America, so he tried everything you use to catch the American bears, until I think after the third death, "this isn't acting like the bears I've hunted, I'll leave it there, go find the story and sub, mostly about hunting human hunters, which every lion ,tiger when turning to hunting humans, it's easy, + probably injured and can catch there normal prey...love all wildlife, then you have to try find "THE LION OF TSAVO" ABSOLUTELY brilliant, again true story, when you Finnish with them , ive one more, which is so clever, and famous Male Siberian tiger....
Awesome video that demonstrates how deadly they are. BBC always makes world class stuff. Every word of what Steve Backshall is saying is 100 per cent true. We were lucky to film a sloth bear in the jungles of Tadoba in Maharashtra, India. We did get a glimpse of those long claws and captured it in our video. Locals fear the bear more than the tiger. They say the sloth bear is a formidable opponent and even a tiger many a times stays away from challenging a sloth bear. We were lucky to film it for our channel.
Well, I've seen a documentary, where people from a village in the mountains in Nepal always try to get home before dark because of bears. And I thought, those sloth bears are not all that big...
Sloth bears “not that big”? I wouldn’t ever want to tangle with a 100-200 lb dog let alone a fast moving bear with deadly claws like they have. They could literally disembowel you with a quick slash of their claws.
Btw they are like the terriers of bears. Big cats see them as a (not-so) happy meal. But that's only if they manage to subdue one. kinda have to be a scrappy psychopath to survive alongside tigers. The more fellow predators you have to fend off, the more aggressive you need to be. it's a bit like a black bear honey badger cross 😶😶😶
There's a saying I heard from a wise man, especially regarding Sloth Bears. "You're only as good as the company you keep." Considering that Sloth Bears have to contend with predators like Tigers and Leopards on the daily while trying to survive out in the wild, it makes sense that they can be so viciously.
What Baloo is actually supposed to look like, though even then Rudyard Kipling had his errors, as sloth bears are not brown and the diet described in the Mowgli stories, which consisted of roots, nuts and honey, has more in common with the Asian black bear. I've seen my fair share of screen adaptations and even the best such as Chuck Jones' "Mowgli's Brothers", Soyuzmultfilm's "Maugli" and Andy Serkis' "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle" don't even look like sloth bears, especially in the case of "Maugli" where he was changed to an Asian black bear, but at least his diet matched. It is a shame, because they are truly a unique looking species.
@@Shimo2130 Nah because I tell truth. And truth hurts. Cuz fake people doesn't want to accept it. All I'm sayin" that sloth bear can eat your face alive lol. Try him!!!
I just want to know who the heck incorrectly named them sloth bears?!!! Ain't nothing slow or slothlike about them😩 I'm scared and I'm not even there! Lol
When they were first discovered, scientists believed they were ground sloths thanks to their shaggy fur and long claws. Of course… they’re not sloths at all, but a small bear species. And I guess the name kinda stuck still. It’s funny looking back on it cause they really don’t look like sloths at all
don't let their goofy appearance fool yah,,they're incredibly fast and highly aggressive. sloth bear will attack humans without hesitation and maul ppl to death and eat their faces.Incidents like those happens a lot india.
He got mad because you were laughing at him (or her) falling out the tree while trying to get that watermelon, and since he couldnt 'bust' you up he took it out on the other bear. Ok, only partially true. He was frustrated about not getting the watermelon and then took it out on the other bear. And yes, they are very dangerous. They kill more people in a year than grizzly's and Alaskan brown bears have in the last 20 years combined.
they cant instantly grip with there teeth because adults Sloth bears are missing there top front teeth and their molars are actually smaller than others bear species, they are like this for food purposes, like sucking up termites and other insects, but they have strong canines.
She probably jumped in from a tree top. But I don't think the bears are in an enclosure, rather the fence was probably put up in an area of the jungle to keep the bears away from humans and poachers.
