Which operating systems is that compatible with? I’ve searched HIGH AND LOW for a daw that can run on my samsung smart fridge, but no luck. The fridge comes with built in speakers, so I don’t have to buy studio monitors! The problem is, hardly anyone uses the samsung smart fridge, they all just use mac and windows. I think its because the samsung smart fridge is so expensive. Although when you think about it, its a bargain because you are getting a high quality computer AND a refrigerator. Yeah, Reaper is nuts. I was an hardcore Ableton Live user, but then I tried Reaper. Spent literally 2 months customizing it (themes, custom actions and scripts, templates) to the point that it doesn't look nor behave like stock Reaper anymore. My latest achievement is making a button that renders the current project, imports it in a new session, loads my mastering template (with multi-band channel routings and parallel effect chains), sets the name of the project to "projectName_master", and makes a backup on my NAS. ALL WITH ONE CLICK. I'll never change DAW ever again.

im a reaper user but pro tools is great for recording and comping takes etc but for actually producing it isn't very good
@Screaming-Trees
@Screaming-Trees 3 года назад
@@StevenSmethurst I hear ya but it's actually fine for anything you want to do. Ableton by comparison is far stranger in that it completely does away with the hardware metaphor. Most other DAWs pretty much mimic a hardware studio (Pro Tools obviously, Logic etc). The way things work in the real world. Which is probably useful and would translate if you found yourself in a situation where you need to work in that world. With Ableton everything seems to be an insert with a dry/wet knob on it. This might be convenient in software but try mixing with outboard in that way. It wouldn't work for lots of reasons. So I think in Ableton's case convenience has its price. Pro Tools just mimics how hardware studios work. That's a time honoured approach. With Ableton it feels like you're just chaining pedals (virtual) together. Or at least it looks that way to me as a casual observer. It has no correlation to anything real-world. You can do that in Pro Tools if you want. Most plugins nowadays have dry/wet knobs but you could instead setup an aux track and work with sends. Any kind of sidechain stuff is easy in Pro Tools. Or as easy as Ableton. When it comes to audio editing Pro Tools has the edge I would say in that it's minimalist in its approach (you don't have to execute coordinated hands movements to zoom in for example. It's just one key press) and the smart tool is a dream to use for fades and such. Anything Ableton does Pro Tools can match just different workflow (maybe the clip launch thing can't be mimicked in Pro Tools I don't know).
@StevenSmethurst
@StevenSmethurst 3 года назад
@@Screaming-Trees ye ableton was initially made with live performing and jamming in mind so excels in that area but all major daws now can do pretty much what the next daw does. so depending on personal use and workflow it's best to learn one and stick with it. if you plan on working in a actual studio recording bands etc. pro tools is handy to learn even if its not your main daw because its the industry standard and some bands will still insist on it but I don't think its as relative now as it was 10+ years ago.

FL Studio user for 12 years. Paid for it once and receive every update forever. Honestly the best reason to get FL. I was never one to do big recording multi-tracks of recorded instruments. Something I feel FL Studio is just catching up on. It's best suited for making primarily electronic beats. And I've never had trouble learning other DAWs? It's all the same fundamental concepts just with other ways to accomplish the same things. I've used all of the big DAWs, as well as Trackers, and a lot of obtuse Hardware. Every system is new and you take the time to learn it. As if someone at radio play famous level is going to get dumbfounded by different DAWS, like... it's not hard.

As someone who uses FL Studio religiously (for lack of a better name), i agree with his cons of FL. I've been using it since i started learning back in 2011, it's so tough to move on. At this point, i really don't want to. I do know the basics of Ableton though. I'm somewhat familiarized with it so i can make tracks on there as well. But I tend to use Ableton for mastering and i do my production + mixing in FL the lifetime free updates is a great bonus too It's also been said that a lot of non-FL users despise collaborating with / having to collaborate with FL users because of how different FL is in that regard with the project files and whatnot. The only workaround i know of is bouncing stems and sending them back and forth which is still a process

Some DAWs are definitely more suited to electronic and others are more suited to recording and creating vast compositions. You can do most things in all DAWs, just some have features that make it a lot quicker and easier. IMO FL has the best animations out of any DAW. It has a lot of visual feedback which I don't hate about it. Im of the few that genuinely can't get used to the blandness of Ableton. Though great workflow for sampling, the price and interface have always stopped me from pulling the trigger on it. I genuinely believe thats its best to use whatever speaks to you. If Renoise's interface does it for you, by all means, stick to that.

I myself am a user of fl and ableton, there are concerns on both sides, ableton is simplistic, but quickly limited on the stock effects (lite), it is correctly adapted and only bemol it takes only the plugin X64 fl studio is more a software "edition" than pro, I admit that the sequencer is really not top and that the basic ui and totally has to be revised, but it is not so bad as that

With the new comping feature, stock sounds might now be the only thing that sucks about Ableton.

Started with Pro tools, went to cubase and had to use rewire to record vocals with cubase while making the beat in reason. I've been using reason since 3.0 for beats, then they added recording, then they added VST's. Took awhile but now it's complete :D Got 9.5 awhile ago.

As a musician, I’m definitely gonna look into trying out multiple DAW’s other than FL Studio if I figure out some shenanigans in life, after all, I think that would be a healthy decision considering his comments, and the fact that I wanna bring prog rock/metal and technical techniques to EDM, (multiple time signature changes, good sound engineering, conceptual work, 7.1 Dolby Atmos/DTS: X Pro/Auro 3D mixes on Blu Ray High Fidelity Pure Audio, and songs that last well over 10 minutes, or even 20, or hell, even an hour) if I can do that, I think I can overcome all music software, because I’m not gonna amount to Martin Garrix - Animals, I’m gonna amount to what’s on Pink Floyd - Animals, and all that is Dream Theater, and Emerson Lake & Palmer, but on EDM (along with making all kinds of music too)
@aleksandarj5286
@aleksandarj5286 3 года назад
I think you can do all of that within FL. FL is powerful as fuck, many people just don't realise it. Joel's right, though, it's unique and simple which makes switching a nightmare

I know, I use FL, that’s why I said other than, I wanna add some variety, it could be helpful should I receive a foreign project file, or if I’m in a certain mood, I’ve used other DAW’s in the past, including Ableton, so I think I can get a hang of it by spending time with them.

I started out in Reaper and moved to Studio One. It felt like I've been training for a 100m dash in solid led boots, and when I removed them I fucking flew up instead of running. You can do literally anything in Reaper, it's just really fucking hard for no good reason.

Isn’t reaper one of those daws that work amazing if you spend the money in top quality mixing/effects software? Was watching a video of Tim from Polyphia recording guitars in it and the amazing thing I saw that I’ve never seen in fl is you can select which part of the track you want to record, like if you have something already recorded it won’t over write it, hard to explain but when you have the ready to record select on it’s kind of like the looping

I know this comment is from two years ago, but I think playlists/track-takes have been optimised by most DAWs at this point. In REAPER, I think it happens automatically if you just loop it. Afterward the recording, you click on the takes that you want. If it looks too small after several loops, you can just zoom in vertically. Done.

I started on Studio One bc it came with my first cheap audio interface, I hear it’s pretty good right now. Then moved to Logic Pro. Then Ableton bc I hated the fact Logic is completely tied to using a Mac....and when I built my first beast of a PC it wasn’t an option. It was either that, or spend afew thousand dollars more for the trashcan Mac Pro that’s LESS powerful in every way than the PC I was building...and couldn’t swap GPU’s and play PC games. Didn’t like Cubase’s subscription service, and didn’t like how different FL was to everything else...and at the time it was PC only (not sure if it still is). Bitwig looks like it can become something crazy in the future. A best of all worlds thing once it gets more time being out there.
