I learnt a new phrase recently: 'deaf anxiety'. After reading and learning more about, I realised that whenever I get anxiety, it is mostly likely because of my lack of ability to hear.
And the more I read about it, the more I realised that it resonates with me and it's definitely a thing.
It also made me aware that it's a topic that we should be talking about more often, and this is why I decided to open up about it.

Thank you Ahmed, your description of Deaf Anxiety really resonated with me. There are so many issues which we need to consider when going through a normal day and these all cost a lot of energy. For me it feels like we started the game of life on level "hard" instead of "easy" and can never change the difficulty.

That's a great analogy Monika. Even though you can use "cheats" to make things easier...it doesn't really make it that much easier. But I'm so glad the video resonated with you. 🙏🏽

Thank you for being so transparent! This helps me to better understand the deaf people in my life, who I love dearly. You seem like an amazing young man. I hope you have great impact on the deaf AND the hearing!

I've been deaf/HOH since I was a newborn. I have profound high/low frequency hearing loss in my left ear and Severe high/low frequency hearing loss in my right. I've always suffered from deaf anxiety especially since people think I'm faking it, get frustrated by me asking to repeat what they have said or when they refuse to repeat themselves all together. Hearing people don't understand that it isn't always about sound but more about the clarity of speech facial expressions and gestures. I get told a lot that I have a weird accent or a lisp when I talk. This makes me even more anxious to start a conversation with new people or train clients with my job. I could go on and on what makes me anxious lol. Thank you so much for sharing this video!

This is all very relatable so you're not alone there. But we have to talk about deaf anxiety, share stories, share this video and raise that awareness. It's the only way to make people aware understand us. In the meantime, I hope you will not let people get to you (I know, easier said than done) and realise that you have value to share with anyone.

Spot on.. that is how I am doing with my life to balance three worlds for years..... and bravo for your video clips to speak out for us all.....Always being in the middle world as born hearing then lost my hearing when a child and mixed with Deaf Community with Auslan.... .took me years to know my idenity to find where I fit...... you have really spot it of how I felt too.....so always juggles with those three worlds...... would be grand to have a club for those middle world people like myself for emotional/mentally/spiritual supports.....Thank you so much for the video and will share around to others......God Bless you, Shalom, Namaste :-)

No problem at all John. I'm so happy to hear that this video has resonated with you. You're not the only one who has spent many years trying to understand your own identity. I do wonder whether one can ever be done and full understand yourself, but it helps if we can go in the right direction. I don't have any immediate plans on creating an online club for the "inbetweeners", but if you register in the newsletter, I tend to share exclusive posts and updates that could help you, and that may well be a way to get people together online. You can do that here: hearmeoutcc.com/newsletter/

Wow totally related to everything you said. Having a severe hearing loss in low tones, i hate social situations with a lot of noise. It causes me great anxiety and will try and figure out how I can not go. Hearing aids have helped but background noise increases. Fatigue and anxiety is a battle I have everyday. Thank you for doing this.

Yesterday, I went to a Silent Dinner, and I was pleasantly surprised that my signing skills were good enough. For the first time, ever, it wasn't deaf anxiety ridden! What a difference NOT hearing makes:) There were 50 people in our group at the restaurant, and I have never talked to & different people with conversations bouncing off the walls. What a hoot! A little unsettling because I didn't know what to expect...but talking across the restaurant to another person was hilarious!!

@@IamAhmedKhalifa Really?! That surprises me;). In my life I NEVER have talked to so many people ever, let alone in 2 hours. And I am an introvert, so it was weird, and think it was good! My dogs are great, but many times...people not so much. It was crazy, and I just tried to keep up with conversation flying all over the place. I can tell you it wasn't the frustrating restaurant visit with my son, wife, niece and her family just a few weeks ago at a super crowded restaurant that I couldn't participate in because my hearing aids just couldn't keep up. Give it a try! Then I can see your next vido clip on your thoughts;)

I related to this video a lot as a deaf person. Thank you for elaborating on this concept! Do you have any book recommendations for mindfulness? Thank you again for your insightful educational videos!

You're welcome :) I don't have a book specifically about mindfulness. But I read books stoicism, which has overlaps and it's the foundation of therapy. My favourite is 'The Daily Stoic'.
