The first clip got me thinking. The reason he's not responding is because he's never heard words before. So he doesn't understand what they're saying. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Guys, I think he is just hearing impaired. I doubt this boy was totally deaf there was no sign language being done. I doubt specialists would talk to him if he didn’t know language haha. She’d use sign language. Many children receive cochlear implants. You can see he knows his name already.

I remember the first time I got hearing aids. As a grown man I couldn’t hold back tears. Hearing birds, zippers, just everything in the world. What these videos don’t show is how hard it is to adjust. It takes a while for your brain to process. It is incredibly overwhelming. Hearing technology has come so far. The sad thing is that quality equipment costs thousands. Little to no help with the cost. Insurance for everything but hearing it seems like. This needs to change

I was able to experience this with my daughter when she was younger. She had a condition where she produced too much wax in her ear canals to the point that they became compacted. When they cleaned them out, it became an unexpected emotional situation. She was overjoyed by the sounds and clarity that she was hearing; I just could not hold back the tears from her reaction. Such an amazing experience we will cherish forever.

I remember my daughter get ear surgery when she was three and her reaction when she woke up and really my husband and I for the first time. She had the biggest look of surprise and a huge smile followed right after. I was so emotional, it was so hard trying not to cry. And when she started talking after few days and then after 3 months she was talking nonstop. She is 7 now she still has a speech impediment and still will use sign language out of habit which is fine. And I noticed every few month her speech is getting better and better. It unbelievable how quickly she caught up.

Guy with severe hearing loss here. It can be overwhelming when you first get hearing aids. I imagine even more so for the implant. I had to come home and sit down by myself to try and process what all these new sounds are. I'd never heard birds ,air conditioning, wind, the sound of water running. It also took my family along time to adjust when talking to me not to yell. After a few months your brain adapts and you focus more on understanding a variety of speech sounds.

Destroyed me. Tears were flowing for that little boy. Such a beautiful but very scary moment for him.
