About time. I've been following these guys since day one. A truly great band who tend to be slagged off by the kvlt black metal fans for doing something abit different. Get roads to Judah by them. Still my favourite album.
this live version pretty suck. performance wise, not yet there, this is a new band, give couple of years more, theyll improve, this does not give the piece justice, song-wise, it is a very good making use of black-gaze and post, very emotional deep track.. the intro was shorten, nobody playing the second n third guitar.. shit. wrong foot in in otherwise a very good piece
This version wasn't good because Kerry's guitar wasn't working properly and you couldn't hear anything of what he is playing. His melodic riffs in the midst of the wall of sound that this band creates are the coolest thing about the band, so this version didn't allow you to hear that. React to a studio version or another live version, you picked the worst possible version. My favorite songs by them are Dreamhouse, Sunbather (Chalk TV live version is pretty good), and Luna.. All good choices to listen to.
Deafhaven are alright... studio is definitely better. They were a bit, dare I say, 'boring' when I saw them live and the RU-vid recordings are pretty lacklustre. Their musicianship was levels below most of the metal bands I've seen live. I definitely prefer Alcest when I'm in the mood for blackgaze, albeit a little softer-check out their tracks "Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde " or "Oiseaux De Proie", for example. Alcest are also excellent live; very understated and unassuming. If I'm in the mood for something blackgazey but heavier than Alcest, I can't go past Panopticon's track "The Wind's Farewell", which I can listen to on repeat for days. Panopticon is incredible atmospheric black metal project.
Nothgard - Draining Veins Nothgard - Shadow Play German melodic death I didn't see any reaction to this band as far, but i think they're worth to check them. I know You will like it, react to Nothgard ;)
give another listen to ISIS, literally the most influential and best band in recent decades, listen the emotionality of the post-metal of "In fiction" album version (no official video) and i think you can see
RUBEN!!!! My lovely man!!!!! I can't believe you did it! Of course I love you to no end. ;) I would agree with Yama Kasi, the commenter below me, I would recommend listening to the studio version if you wish. Like Yama said: the guitars are completely buried in this live version which is unfortunate (I couldn't hear them at all). But I still LOVED your reaction. And I apologize for constantly nagging you about songs to listen to. If you want another suggestion for Deafheaven, most of their songs are wonderful like this one; so I would recommend the song "Sunbather" next. It's from the album with the same name, "Sunbather". Can't wait for Saturday Ruben! I'll see you there!
I would recommend baby blue by them. and if you like that, you should give long distance calling a spin, preferably black paper planes.7 minutes only instruments, but no-one misses vocals.
