... and those of us who came to Deal a little later (1954, North End, aged 10 in my case) remember the bombed buildings in Middle Street and the spent ordnance (twisted rounds and the like) and scaffolding bits used for defence, along the shore after high tides. Thank you David!

Hi David, my partner of 10 years today [so this is a nice anniversary gift to us] found you this morning! I was born in Deal in The Bowling Green Tavern, in 1956, which my grandparents were the landlords of for 22 years. I lived there until I was eight and to cut a long story short now live in New Street, Deal after many years in Kingsdown and France. It would be great to meet up and discuss the house we are living in as it was built to be a chandler's shop and later was an antiques store. It has secret doors to the house next door which used to be a pub. Most likely for smugglers! The family has had it since 1984 but it was never lived in so renovations will be done in keeping with many original features. Do give an email message if possible. Many thanks for all your memories!
