While doing my regular browsing of Marketplace I came across a very modestly priced 1978 Camaro that was local to me. I'd seen the car before and it looked good so I had a buddy snatch it up for me while I was out of town. Now lets look it over and see just how good (or bad) of a deal it really was! And fix anything we can in order to make it better in the process. This car has been SOLD!!!
As always, thanks for watching!

I promise you I’m going to leave you 10 separate comments in the comments section to help the algorithm for every time you mention little Tiffany. You have made my household not only a place of laughter but also a battlefield. It’s amazing how little Tiffany aka my beautiful wife (she’s sitting right next to me 😳) loves these comments about her. Whether it’s about her being at the club with glitter or the backseat of a Camaro . These comments bring joy and happiness to us in the cold January winter. Thank you my friend.

Gotta love those F bodies - I am the original owner of a 75 Firebird Esprit; when I restored it 20 plus years ago, I swapped in a 455 - it certainly does a fine one tire fire. Wish I could say mine was as rattle free as your Camaro - it rattles everywhere.. Then again, it was almost that bad when it was new...70's build quality - no bueno.

I had a'79 Z28 350 4speed. Paid almost nothing for it. Was sitting at the side of a house and I got it running in one afternoon then drove it over fifty miles home. Those were the days pre 2000. What you could find for 500 bucks now goes for atleast 5g. Parts are now marked up so high it's rediculace.

My Camaro was a 1989 Camaro Rally Sport with same color!!! The dark metallic blue. I loved that car. I bought it brand new right out of the USAF Bootcamp in San Antonio, Texas, flew to my home town of Moline Illinois, the home of John Deere Tractor factory, baought the car with plastic on the seats, and 3.8 miles on the odometer,stationed at Chanute Air Force Base Illinois,

Great job on the seats. Someone is gonna love that Camaro. Did new bucket seat foam last year and after the first hog ring bite, I switched to zip ties and dumped those rings in the trash. Upholstery should be left to the pros!
@robertbourinski8286
@robertbourinski8286 8 месяцев назад
We bought 2009 Mercury last spring. The back seat had a seam that came apart. The upholsterer wanted $300.00 to repair the seat, but only $25.00 if I took the cover off and reinstalled it myself. When I took the seat cover back to be sewn, the upholsterer charged me $20.00 and threw in some hog rings. I had to buy better cutters to remove the hog rings, but I managed to get the cover back on with cheapo hog ring pliers from Lowe’s( the pliers weren’t the best)😁.

That is a factory Roped Z28 Steering wheel that came in the Z28 Camaro's. Soak it in the sink in purple cleaner and scrub it with a stiff brush. It takes a little time but it works. I have 4 or 5 of these wheels. Their kind of pricey if your trying to find one.

Good tips on the upholstery I always wanted to see how car seats were done I’ve been considering doing this myself on my truck. You’re right about it being hard on the hands, I had a friend years ago that had to retire from the profession because his hands got so bad, he had forearms like Popeye. I’m not a big fan of long videos (short attention span) but I also don’t understand why a guy would complain about them…it’s not like you have to watch it all in one sitting. 👍🏻👍🏻 Good stuff dude!

Sir, with all do respect it’s impossible to hear a critique about a restoration from a man who refuses to even clean, most cars much less do any kind of body work whatsoever. Or talk about rust when he clearly doesn’t repair rust ever at all in any way..lol..🤣🤣🤣💯 I’ve watched this channel for a very long time.. so don’t misinterpret what I’m saying, I enjoy the content sir. Wrong thermostat housing. Trim 1" inch off the belt @ the radiator side. In High school my best friend and I rebuilt a 78 Z28. That doesn't seem to be one though. We used a branch on a huge tree to pull the motor. Literally looks just like the car we did. Cool affordable car with endless possibilities. My buddy had moved to my town from Germany and he was and still is the craziest bastard I know. That was back in 1996. We still do projects together to this day. Two totally different people too... lmao he is a tattooist / artist / fabricator / musician. He has a 5k Sq. Ft. Warehouse flat / Shop We built on the west Bank of the Flats in Cleveland. When he obtained it it had 3 100watt lights & 2 120v outlets. My friend Chris is the most talented person I have ever known.

1:24:16 The power steering pulley on my 85 F150 is bent a good 20 degrees. Somehow. Don't know how, was like that when I got the truck in '07. 150,000+ miles on it and it never threw a belt or even ate a belt. V-belts are pretty good about tracking misaligned and damaged pulleys!

Thats a good start to a nice ride, especially clean for your area. I like how you put the accs brakets back to factory for trouble free operation. A guy could always get a nicer, more expensive setup in the future. Its almost like they wanted to hot rod it but couldn't afford to get too in depth, which actually saved it from further butchering. Man, I would seriously love to own a car like this. I have owned some seriously cool imports over the years, but not many cool domestics. Still, I would LOVE to swap a LS1, LS2, or LS3 into this car with a Tremec 6060 and a 3.73 posi rear end. I have always loved that body style Camaro because my brother and I built a real 1974 Z28 that he bought as a drag car. We (well, he mostly because I moved around) turned it into a restomod with custom flush mounted glass, a Corvette white paintjob with C5 flush mounted door handles, a 355 under the hood (a 350 bored .030 over) with an Eaton 4 speed manual and a 3.73 rear end with posi. It also has full custom gauges, a full custom interior with custom stitched bucket seats along with the rear seats (modern black leather with white stitching), and custom carpeting. We did a frame off restoration YEARS ago with a sandblasted and powder coated frame. The bottom of the car is just as shiny as the top. It also has a fully detailed engine bay with all chrome pulleys and random engine components with full Hooker long tubes and a full 3" dual exhaust back to Flowmaster mufflers. It sounds amazing and makes around 425 HP, but my brother is currently working on that number.

The outrageous price to get the stuff to redo the seats in my 79 Firebird were the reason I went to a pull a part yard and found modern front seats I liked and Mexican blanketed my back seats. Front seats cost me $40 for the pair vs $900 to redo the factory ones. And they’re more adjustable and more comfortable.

Since this was owned by a teenager going to college, I wonder if it was a High School, Auto Shop Body Shop project car, brought in by the Owner/Student. I’m surprised you didn’t point out it was missing the inspection cover for the tour converter and flywheel. 37:30, we should be watching a professional, but at this point over 26,000 of us are watching you. My father did upholstery for a living, it’s not just arthritis, it’s carpal tunnel. 24:52, I wish I could get my melon cover and keychain, but I live in the land of the great Canada or at least it was 8 years ago.

Some models had the larger fuel pump, with feed line and return lines. They are close to the frame. But they will supply fuel past 7k.

Duane says that the rims you took off are much better than the ones you put on. Also the white letters go out on the tires. Not having the letters out you should not be driving this kind of car.😀

I could go into detail about what is correct and not correct about this car because I've had a few of them but this one seems pretty decent for what it is. My first car was a '78 non-Z28 like this one but not nearly as nice.😅

The seat rust made me wonder if you could take a standard ol' wire brush and load the bristles full of steel wool but, the other thought was to strap it to the puddin paint shaker.

Some black stripes would really make it pop and break up the blue. Might be worth swapping out the stock looking wheels for the right look though I do like the look now. Could certainly just powder coat those wheels and look perfect honestly. With the vintage air id grow a mullet to drive around south Texas. Kinda surprised you were allowed 500 feet around a school in that car. Great video;

Nice example of a 2nd Gen Camaro. When I was in high school, I bought a 1970 Rally Sport with the split-bumper front end (for $750!). It was a weird one…had the usual 350 engine/T350 trans, but it had no center console and a column shifter. As for the small (non wrap-around) rear window, that was present from 1970 to 1974. The 1974 was the only year of the “refreshed” (1974-1981) Camaro with the small rear window.

I've always been from the camp that said hey after 1977 they just stopped making Camaros parrot too much plastic too much rubber whatever you wish to call it. The paint on the hood is common damage as you know. That is where everybody put their hands on to push the hood shut. HOW DO YOU MISS THE YOUNGER DAYS WHEN I WOULD PICK THE HOOD OFF OF THOSE TYPES OF CARS AND MOVING AROUND BY MYSELF. It looks a lot like the Z28 blue of that year that I painted a 76 Camaro. Of course I had a heavy dose of metal flake and white letter tires displayed proudly for all to see.

This is my sons latest project,79 that he put disc brake kit on,a 355 blueprint engine in / 391.4 hp. Aluminum radiator in,plus the gauge cluster from a z28. New 3”exhaust and new floor pans in. Also put in new prothane body mounts in. He is looking for a single groove m21 rock rusher for it now. He loves that thing,45 years old and still tooling down the road turning heads.

The 3.42:1 rear gear ratio is perfect for a 200R4 transmission to shift into overdrive at 45 mph. With this transmission you can use the th350 driveshaft, just have to move the cross member back. They build the above transmissions that can handle 800 HP now even though you won't need one to that level. Would be a great daily driver with this upgrade, will save lots of fuel especially on the highway with a lockout converter switch.😎👍

She is a sweet looking ride. At least the door pins were good. I remember my 81 Z28 that I had to bang my shoulder on to just get the door to open once the door handle was pulled😂. Mine had a small rake to the front of her and was setup for street racing also. She was fast and looked good, sad she was stolen.
