Last summer I was shopping for a vehicle. Every dealer had vehicles marked up with junk fees and non-negotiable add on packages and I told them they could keep them. Fast forward 1 year and they can't sell them fast enough. Serves the greedy bastards right.

Several major car companies stopped selling affordable sedans, claiming that nobody is buying them. Now they are selling only crossovers, SUVs, and trucks. And now no one is buying them, especially EVs. I believe the real reason for stopping making sedans was not that nobody was buying them, but that they a created a huge price contrast with their expensive SUVs and trucks. In 2000, one could buy a used Ford Escort with 120K miles for around $1250. Even in 2017, many dealers sold new Toyota Camrys for less than $19000. Selling on the same dealer lot two similarly sized new cars, one for 20K and one for 60K, looks a little embarassing to dealers.
@ScubaSteveCanada
@ScubaSteveCanada 3 месяца назад
Your theory is wrong. No one wants sedans in North America since the SUVs are more practical in comparison.

My entire household has only sedans. We love the savings on fuel without having to go the hybrid crossover route. I also prefer my new-to-driving teens to be in a sedan due to the lower risk of rollover. Also, sedans are just better looking to me which I know is subjective.

In my region of Canada, I was looking at the Corolla Cross hybrid and the RAV4 hybrid. But the Corolla Cross was an 8 month wait with the RAV4 being 12 months. I then looked at the CRV hybrid which was in dealer stock but the most expensive. Hyundai Tucson hybrid was better priced with a 1 month wait and is what I now have - no regrets, especially after trading in my Ioniq 5 EV.

The Dodge Hornet is actually an Italian car with an engine built in Poland. You realize that when you look at the window sticker and it shows it's built in Italy. Dodge buyers are not gonna buy a foreign car with an American badge slapped onto it. The reliability of Italian cars is "questionable" and the parts to repair are ridiculous. I guess Stellantis thinks American buyers are gullible and stupid. Those Hornets are $15,000 cars with $45,000 prices, and are gonna fall apart. No thanks!

So I got ripped off when I bought my year old used Honda HRV from a Toyota dealership in 2021. Fortunately I was able to refi with my credit union at a dramatically lower interest rate. I could not trust Toyota Motor Credit. My credit union advised me to take off the warranties which I did. Between the dramatic 5% drop in interest rate to 2.4% and the removal of warranties it reduced my payments by two and a half years

Chevy Trax sells very fast as well. The 2024-2025 models have everything you need in space, legroom, cargo space, back up camera, heated seats, and steering wheel, the Activ is the only one with power seats, and none of them have a power trunk, it’s manual but honestly for me the less electronics the better.

Actually, in the places where I live, Nissan Altimas cost $4500 less than a somewhat less well-equipped Toyota Camry. The Camry is a bit more reliable but the difference in actual yearly repair costs do not make up for the fact that the differential is close enough that it will take more than 8 years to make up for that difference. I you don't plan on keeping your car longer than 8 years, then the Altima is the better buy.

Unfortunately the US and Canadian markets are very different. It will take some time for Canada to catch up with US inventory levels since manufacturers are sending most of what they make to the US as the Canadian dollar makes us a lower priced market. Toyota dealers in Toronto are still buying new hybrid vehicles they receive to sell them used with significant markups over retail for instance.

your 2 lists reveal that sensibility/cost have ZERO or close to zero correlation to sales. Plenty of people with $$$$ willing to spend on ie pick ups but not willing to drop the same coin on a brand. Stellantis occupies quite a few spots on the bad list. The reverse for Toyota, not really understanding the constant shortage of stock here, plenty of other "high value" brands with plenty of stock, yet the worlds largest manufacturer with plants across the globe can't keep any one model in decent supply for dealers.

Honda and Toyota dealerships with side stickers --- sorry, I am not interested. Also there are many features of which I simply do not want on the current cars, such as lane departure, camera pointed at my head to nanny me, cameras stuck to the windshield what makes replacement an all day job at triple the price, plastic parts dominating the under bonnet, CVT transmissions, turbo on 1.5 lt mini engines, automatic braking, monitors replacing physical knobs and buttons, lack of V6 and V8 choices, packages including unwanted, such as moonroofs, auto dimming mirrors costing three times the worth, as well as, blind spot monitors -- I assume people cannot adjust their mirrors these days. I know if I get one of these new gems of automotive complexity, with associated cost front to end, I will be switching off the crap. Ah ha, some items you switch off every time you start the journey -- how pleasing is that? Not so much! If the parts are available, the cars of the 1990's to early 2000's might be the best bet, though car safety is improving. If you find certain cars, made not so long ago, with multi-port injection, and old school transmissions, those too might be a good buy. Some Toyota and Hondas may be OK, but the dealerships, with side stickers, and fast talking BS sales people, is yet another story. I am impressed that our local Subaru dealership never went the side-sticker jack-up on pricing. Subaru might be an option. Good at safety, Subaru, like all the rest has one too many nannies on the vehicle, and I wish there was an option out on those, but this is a new world.

You should take it to a paint shop or detailing shop to diagnose whether it is a manufacturer defect with the paint. Get a second and third opinion. If you can prove the paint is defective, email Toyota head office and demand it be fixed under warranty. You'll need documentation for the diagnosis to show Toyota as evidence.

There is nothing in this video that suggests your statement. While it is true that the growth is slower the Ev sales are still growing. I would say that 25% of my neighborhood is now in Ev. Meaning 25% have an Ev although they also have an ice car as well.

If the prices do plummet then that will mean the American people do have some pull in the market but I don't it will and I'm sure corporate greed will win out where it has in all the other industries that are prices gouging the American people... I say don't buy unless you get the price you want...

My advice is to bite the bullet, buy a brand new Japanese made car, and then KEEP IT FOREVER!!! In the long run, you will SAVE TONS OF MONEY!!!

I bought a Nissan Frontier new 17 years back and would normally sell, or trade in a new vehicle after the ten year mark. Now I'm thinking I'll maybe get another ten years out of my truck and perhaps by that time EV’s and all that pertains will have the bugs worked out and I'll want a new pickup truck.

When a dealer takes a used $15,600.00 on line price to nearly 23$ grand to gain massive profit is terrible

I've been hearing for a year that car prices are about to fall because inventory is piling up. They haven't, and they won't. This is click-bait.

We just got a RAV4 Hybrid. It had arrived at the dealer the day before, had only 5 miles on it.
