My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

If that car has the TT 3.0L with the 7 speed trans, that drivetrain is very sturdy. You might have some of the amenities go bad on that car, but the M276 engine is pretty solid.

Straight drive is a very regional thing probably just a NC area thing. Stick shift/manual most notable term especially with the older generation is called “standard”

When I was a kid, all our cars were stick shifts. I leaned how they worked pretty young because my grandparents would always ask me to shift the gears for them due to shoulder issues. I also had a dirt bike that I had to change gears on. When I took Driver's Ed, however, the cars were automatics. I didn't know how to drive them. 😆Now, I don't think I'd go back to driving a straight until I absolutely had to because automatics are so easy and convenient. 🙂

That Mazda reminds me. About ten years ago, my son's buddy was doing a car wash to raise money. Guy pulls in with gorgeous Mercedes s four door. I went to pull it out of the wash area and the interior was an absolute ash tray. Ashes and cigarette butts almost everywhere. But, the outside was immaculate.

This included an 02' 4X4 F350 I started under a buck. or a 97 Sunline Saturn camper trailer way back in '05. For those not in the business : yes the prices are crazy high but big dealers just want something to pin a finance deal to. They make their money on the finance. Same for new car dealers - tiny margins on the actual vehicles, incentives are on selling the finance to suckers.

too bad the guy on the street can't get a auction car, has to go through 5 fkn people with their hands out first went to a auction 1 time and bid on a work van, one other person was bidding it up , ( prolly a auction goof ) with the fees got up to $1,000 less then what I can just buy one anywhere , I stoped bidding , let them sell that shit at the next auction .. Never been to a scam auction again. 1st and last time, this was 15 years ago

I have a 2000 Tundra Truck that will haul as much AIR as the new ones . Most trucks I see all carry air in the bed ! Some don't have the first scratch .

I seriously have to wonder who's buying new cars at ridiculous prices. It's never been smart to buy brand new cars, but with how insane prices are going up who is still buying this shit? Used cars now are more expensive than new cars were just a few years ago. _Someone_ must be buying them, but no one in my entire family has gotten a used car in years, let alone new.

Pundits have a new dirty word: deflation. Currently the USG's target inflation rate has been 2%, just enough to keep people on the treadmill. Unfortunately, there is still a demographic that still values its money. Deflation means money being scarce enough for people to be more circumspect with spending/investment. Governments & economies spasm when they are brought to heel by the consumer.

Dealers in this area have NOT been paying up for trades. They all want to pay under trade in book values. But they want to sell above book retail. The days of me dealing with these crooks are over. I'll pay cash and I'll buy private. Dealers can go bankrupt, I don't really care.

That is a lot of money for a 2015 Chevy with 76k. Almost $21k auction value. You guys are nuts paying that much and they have not been serviced. Dealers paint and do all kinds of things to auction cars before shipping them. Let someone else deal with it. Oh it need $6k worth of work? SHIP IT! Used vehicles that is 3 years old with 36k miles needs on average $1,500 worth of maintenance. Wonder what a 15 year old car needs.

3 weeks ago CarMax paid me $10,500 for my 111k mile, '16 gmc reg. cab work truck with a 5.3. I paid $15,000 6yrs ago, used with 11k miles on it. Mobil 1 full syn. from day1, leveling kit and 2019 gmc 20" wheels/tires. Nothing special. I stashed the cash and am waiting this fiasco of a car market out for as long as possible before I buy something.

@@michaelwolfe1771 The weird part is that you gamble either way. 1) Gamble you can save enough money to cover the cost of what repairs you have that still make sense to do. OR 2) Gamble that the cost you pay in premiums is less than what you would have had to pay to have COVERED expenses. 3) Of course then you would also have to considering the time value of money. 4) You would have to be a better actuary than the ones for the company that set the prices so the Insurer makes a lot of money. There are so many factors to be considered and these are a few. I was going to become an actuary but it is such a headache!

Sold my 2017 Silverado with 75k miles on it for $25k to a dealership😂😂. I only payed $34k for it brand new for wholesale price!!! Picked up a hybrid accord because putting gas in the truck was costing me $800 a month!! I’m $500 ahead a month even with a payment!!

lol i have nearly that exact same truck and can confirm its a piece of garbage. my ac is broken for the 4th time..... trans is G for now - been running the surecool thermostat bypass thing and it stays under 175 even under hard load. thanks for reminding me that I should swap the trans fluid again. show me a good truck these days that isnt a tundra 🤣

@@cherylw3661 If that's the case shouldn't the price of EVs be low. Feature for feature EVs are more expensive than what they are trying to replace. New cars EVs and non-EV sales have slowed considerably. I know this. My wife's nephew use to make really good money in new car sales - his last pay check was $250 and he was shorted money dealer so low on money they playing tricks with his money. What they shorted him was still too low so he just gave up on asking. Sales people moving around from dealer to dealer thinking it better over there, but it is not, many looking to leave the car sales business. He's looking to leave. Like I see that, cars are not selling - what I don't see is why the prices are still so high. I'm seeing junk here at this used car auction sold for big dollars - it doesn't make any sense.

I have a mint 2003 F150 Lariet suppercab 5.4 2v with 88k miles on her.. got it last August for 14k with 78k miles on her.. did all the proper maintnace, new tires, brake job and a few lil mods for safe messure😊. All in, call it 20k. Sold back a 2022 Maverick made 4k. Ill take the raw truck feel and dependability..

car prices are largely set by what the manufacturers charge dealers. Sure there was a time when dealers had huge markups but those have largely disappeared now.

I once owned a 2004 Volvo C70 $42,000 car with a 3rd party extended warranty I purchased new from the dealer. At the end of the warranty when I dumped the car, I got a printout of all repair costs over the 5 years I owned the car. It came to $43,000!!!!! I think the warranty was useful.

Not happening. Car prices are still extremely elevated and nobody is dumping anything. In Phoenix prices aren't coming down on any high demand vehicles. If you are looking at shit box Stellantis/Mitsubishi cars, then yeah you may be able to get a deal. Sorted out used Toyota, Honda vehicles are gone in an instant.

I'm REALLY hoping to get my other business going. I want to buy broken ones, fix them up and then sell them. Not high volume. And not ones that need a whole new body either. Things like bad transmission etc. I'm hoping to grow to around 40 cars a year. Depending on if I can hire the right person/s to work with me. BUT, that said, now is not the right time anyway. Not until 2025 when new President is settled in and the market stabilizes some. If that's possible. If Biden gets installed then we're screwed and I wont start my second business.

Oh sorry I been meaning to ask you. What is holding you back from adding a higher level of vehicles to sell, even on a small scale? The occasional 10K car may drive in more foot traffic for the less expensive cars, and I assume but, wouldn't more expensive vehicles bring better clients? I'm speculating so if you wouldn't mind clarifying. Thanks man.

I don't possess an iota of sympathy for new/used branded car dealers, especially GM, should they all go broke. I wouldn't accept another silverado pickup if they offered to give it to me gratise. They provide complicated computerized crap that can not be fixed at luxury vehicle prices and retains no value what so ever.

I bought a used 2020 Grand Cherokee last February from a local dealer. Still paying on it. Salesman from the dealer cold called me today asking if I was ready to trade up. He was acting like they were running some big sale but it was just the same over priced new cars with high interest rates. Told him no thanks. I think this is just the beginning of their desperation to move cars. Things are going to get much worse.
