Fight Chemistry I like to think of it like church. I’m a Christian and personally plenty of people claim to be Christian but are absolutely deplorable and don’t follow the Ten Commandments. Same with the bjj community
That's why I never went back to bjj school, I'd rather train mma with people I know (friends) and if a bjj guy wants to challenge me we can settle it in the cage or maybe our local gym...
BJJ is becoming like the boxing industry everyone is becoming cocky and think there top fighters. Its quiet sad because both sports are great and idiots have to wreck it.
yeah no doubt about that but, no need for a martial artist or fighter to be a jerk about it is the message. No matter what anyone says the true spirit is to fight for the good of people, deep down in anyone heart if you look with true eyes you will know this.
I'm participating in one next week could you gimme a ride to the woods, I do need to bring a big 5ft duffel bag though and on the way back I'll bring a trophy around the same size if I win.
I am taking part in a kumite tournament in Nassau, Bahamas. It is top secret and held every 5 years. It's a straight knockout competition invite only to the world's greatest warriors, People you have never heard of including Shaolin monks. some fights are held on rooftops. I am going there deep undercover as a CIA operative and one day I may release a book that will most probably be made into a movie. I am undefeated and that's how it will stay. 😎
@@Paul-os2hn Rooftops? That's bullshit, come back when you have survived the secret treetop world martial arts tournament which I have won for 7 years in a row.
I went to a place and had to quit as the head instructor belittled and treated ppl like shit. Centred them out and yelled at them among other things. I can't believe the Renzo Gracie academy was associated with him. It turned me off from the art all together.
I hate guys that go 100% while we drill during class. If you go as hard as you can, you need to make sure the other person knows you plan to do so. There's no need to injure people just so you can try out a move
Rad 140, 20 mg / day + mk677 25 mg/day + cardarine 15mg / day. run for 8 weeks, hop off the cardarine and rad140. stay on the mk677. wait 2 weeks, start clomid 25mg/day for 6 weeks. stop the clomid after 6 weeks, still taking mk677, run that alone for 3-4 months, then reset with rad140/cardarine again. rinse/repeat. also, take Glutamine, Creatine, beta alanine and caffeine pre workout. train harder than last time. Gym in the morning, BJJ in the evening. everyday. Get bloodwork done before, during and after. find a good HRT doc to hold your hand through the process if you don't want to fck up your body.
Nice. Im the brokem type of guy using jui jitsu to build myself up. After 4 years im doing judo to and its for fun. I dont mind getting thrown by a 14 year old girl. As long as i figure out what i did wrong or the instructor helps me see my mistake.
Jocko you're right. Thank you for mentioning this about not training at a BJJ school when you find one if the instructors are arrogant and disrespectful.
Well put Jocko. In my time in Karate I have met some extremely well skilled people who are humble and I have met some extremely well skilled people who exercise their ego at everyone else's expense. Seems to me in my experience the most humble ones were also the most well skilled. Your reference to those in clergy is also correct. Whatever you do and whoever you are you can be good and humble for sure.
Coming in as a white belt. There was a guy who was a blue belt and he was a complete dick. You know who the dicks are because they intentionally rip your arm off, when they know they have you! Especially to a newbie. I got his ass in a Ezekiel choke and I got him back real good. I saw his soul leave his body. RIP made him kinda respect me. #Bekind
What are the chances of an analysis of Patrick Henrys Liberty or Death speech for Independence Day? I loved the Henry V Agincourt rundown; lets go for round 2.
I train with a guy who is very arrogant. He is on a bunch of steroids and because he can out strength everyone, he thinks that makes him better than everyone at the gym. He always brags about how good he is and how much stronger he is than everyone else. I really can't stand his arrogance, especially when he is essentially just cheating while he is going against people who are all natural and don't juice at all.
LOL which God? Is it the Christian God of the bible that slaughters babies and killed millions just because they didn't listen to him and he got pissed off.
It's such a shame that there are people who use jj as template to be an arse, any type of martial arts should start with a spiritual understanding rather than understanding of being an arse, jj is such a humbling sport, i love tapping out especially when it's my 11 year old son squeezing or twisting me into submission, he has been doing jj longer than i have & that's what i love about it, the fact that i get humbled weekly, oh it's so awesome
In my experience, the average person does not give 2 shitz how good you/we are at rolling around on the ground, or how good you punch/kick or whatever. Many people think it's strange. Nothing to be arrogant about. I have heard things like..."Why are those guys rolling around on the floor in karate suits?"..."Is that Mexican guy the sensei or whatever??" me: "He's Brazilian, actually."😄😄
Jaco man you’re carrying a switchblade. The a pitta me of cool ha ha ha.. or so I thought when I was young. I think you’re so dope. I I need people like you guys in my life man.
An instructor at my gym, a brown-belt, who usually works as a subsitute belittled the shit out of me. He told me I don't know how to fight simply because I was breaking eye-contact. 🤣I was like aight
Thank you.....Great why do I look up to you as in Ju Jitsu , so in life , jerks , arseholes, whatever or however you describe them, they live a lie! Some great man said, "Humility is the right fear of God" , for me this means conventionally in the so-called real world, "i" exist and tend to take up a position to defend myself from the realization that I am not the man, I am not the big I-am, i am not----, in other words, "me" operating out of my little world view isn't right ,it is always and will be always a tiny little self-created cosmos, God laughs and says in a very quiet whisper "who are you .....Little man" ? Who are you to dictate to, to impose on and interfere with others, who are you to abuse and use them ....Little man ? Let me demonstrate then a terrible thing happens, the big little man is someone no longer. "See little man " ! Now learn to be humble please, otherwise worse will happen, the "man" gets up in a daze thinking he was dreaming and walks on. God Bless R
right now im training bjj and kung fu. and theres a girl there that is tough asf. and i get a vibe from her that she looks down on the newbies. me personally, i think shes not being humble at all with that attitude. the only reason shes got more experience than them is because she started earlier. stay humble bitches
This is bs!! I only train at non competitive jj schools where everyone gets a belt at the same time, no submissions, no dominant positions, no contact, No one loses everyone wins and trophies are handed out after every class.
There is a fair amount of this actually...some really arrogant dickhead instructors (even BB's) and real jerks on the mats. He's right though -- applies to everything. Cops, clergy, teachers, all can be a holes. It's just surprising because its so humbling...
You can try out different gyms and observe what is going on. If the energy is bad then train somewhere else. There are a lot of good gyms. Keep up the good work Jocko and Echo
Just got my wrist broken by a purple belt🤦🏻♂️ didn’t even get a chance to tap to a wrist lock. I’m a white belt training for 4 months, now I’m out for 4 months 😡
Hey jocko, Im wondering if im the problem here or it was my school. A brown belt and his friends (owner included) found out i go both ways (someone ratted me out) and gave me unrelenting shit for it. I wouldve respected it if it was to my face, but it was to each other two feet away from me. The thing that gets me is it was multiple ppl. That hurt. And ive asked myself constantly if im the problem. I quit there and im looking for a new gym. Thoughts?
Your school was and is absolutely the problem. Who cares what you do in your private life as long as you're not harming yourself or others? Plus, you're there to learn and practice martial arts which has nothing to do with your sexuality. Find a school that realizes these concepts and treats you with respect.
I have found most fighters I have talked to are closet bullies. True shit. In any argument or any situation where mere WORDS dont go their way by a small margin... they always trot out the fact that they are tough guys.
tommyboy tommyboy If you think Jocko and Echo are arrogant jerks then there is something very wrong with you. Maybe you’re insecure I don’t know but these two guys are without doubt NOT arrogant jerks...
Check out the video where jocco neck cranks a white belt. I like jocco, but truth is truth. Then the 160 pound white belt complains about the weight difference and he got all hyped up and threatened him with other high level but lighter guys. Find that video and get back to me. Do you train bjj by the way?
I never said that they were arrogant jerks... When did I say that? I just said that the video was ironic. I've been a fan of jocco for a while. I'll look for the link, bit if you search it's out there. I believe he finishes a significantly smaller man, likely a white belt with a neck crank, a can opener from his guard possibly. It didn't come across as an ambassador for jiu jitsu. If you see the video before I find it, come back and let me know what you think. Honestly, I was really a big fan of jocco, I listened to all of his podcasts, then I saw the video and I was just a little bit dissapointed. Still a fan. Just wouldn't call him humble.
What's the move where my opponent digs his middle finger knuckle into my carotid artery? Is that even a move bro? What do I know, I'm just a white belt.
I’m a white belt too and that is a D-bag move. Usually ppl will use their forearm but a knuckle?? Wow! He’s trying to intimidate you and establish dominance I assume. Maybe flip it on him and ask him what that move is called? (Being sarcastic bc it’s NOT a move)
most gyms would call it a dick move but technically its fair game. Its not going to submit you but its pretty annoying and people use it to open you up for other attacks
I keep training with inexperienced people who tell me they like getting beat up and that they want to be humble. It's weird and stupid. If you're humble, you don't have to tell people how humble you are and you don't go around telling others to be humble. And if you like getting beat up, you're misguided and you're putting yourself in danger and patting yourself on the back for it.
Like jocko said, the point is to win, learn techniques and get better. You'll get humble naturally. You can't train yourself to be humble. You'll simply realize your limitations or you'll deny them. The culture of telling others to be humble is getting out of hand. It's annoying and stupid.
The other red flag with the "I like getting beat up" is that it doesn't give you confidence that they'll respect your body either. I tend to be very cautious with those people, and even in the cases where I dominate them, I don't "beat them up" to kind of show them that getting someone to submission is not the same as beating them up, or that you don't have to be explosive and careless to apply pressure and advance your position or sub.
Maybe they're phrasing it wrong without realizing it. "Getting beat up" to them could actually mean losing a roll or sparring session and seeing they've made mistakes. Not making excuses for these people though
Lol, Jocko casually playing around with his blade reminds me of my time in the military. Usually, the most alpha and high ranking officers would carry with them a knife that they would play around with while they were instructing us
Send the arrogant jerks to a Krav Maga studio, using jiu jitsu on 3 attackers at once will build some humility for the B-Jay-Jay instructor. The groin WILL be restomped! Unless the instructor uses switchblade-jitsu.
Jocko you should talk more about current events or just subjects that are interesting that will bring different groups of people to your podcast. Expand your podcast brotha. You have the military, motivation, mindset, skills to have as a human. But now i think you should get new subjects to discuss or different guest. Maybe talk about the universe. Marjuana. The border. Other countrys wars or problems.
Wow! I've only come across one smarmy little shit and he was a blue belt. A very "pretty man" who thought he was Gods gift to women. He'd come and go and eventually quit. In my opinion Jujitsukas should be measured by one standard....There ability and skill on the mat. It helped me beat alcoholism and bought to the surface parts of me which I'm proud of. It literally has something to offer everyone. Injuries normally occur from white belts going to hard to quick, very rarely from higher belts. I'm a huge believer in strong foundations and basics. After nearly 7 years i still drill basics and polish each section of basic techniques. The flowing and relaxed heaviness will come naturally. Good points and post Jocko. Cheers from down under.
I think an effective judoka can more quickly end a fight One hip throw into concrete is game over for anyone Where extended periods on the ground in bjj might be more dangerous if it’s not a 1 on 1 confrontation But any is going to great for self defence
I’ve trained judo and nogi jiujitsu for about three years so far. Personally I’d recommend doing both dude. If you can find a gym or dojo that offers bjj or nogi and a wrestling or judo class go for it! If I had to choose only one, I’d go with nogi jiujitsu because there aren’t as many rules. In judo you can’t grasp the legs for a takedown anymore because of the new rule set (which I think is absolutely ridiculous) whereas jiujitsu allows any kind of takedown/sweep but depending on the gym you choose, (meaning if the school is more oriented to wrestling and MMA vs guard playing and sport bjj), you might not train takedowns very frequently which is a major issue as far as self defense is concerned. I hope this helped you!
@@mr.freeze2681 I´m both a Judo and BJJ (Gi and Nogi) guy. Hip trows and many Wrestling and Judo take downs are part of the curriculum of every decent BJJ school. Considering that, If I had to choose one, BJJ would be by far the best choice.
No way I'm going half speed with any adult. We learned as teenagers in puberty that there were no more play or sport fights -- it's all fun until somebody gets hurt, which is usually real quick. Just avoid aggressive people, and gyms or dojos where they hang out. Being able to win a fair fight is meaningless. Nobody fights fair. There's more than one reason to choose to fight, wrestle, whatever you call it. One is because some like hurting other people. Maybe that's only 5%, but I suspect more. One is sense of insecurity. Maybe that's only 33%, but I suspect more. If somebody says they train in martial arts, I avoid them. Sooner or later they will want to show you.
