Simply put, this man could SING! You have to be smiling from ear to ear as you listen to Dean's version of this song. Never be another all round entertainer like him. Legend.
This song is one of the most beautifully sung songs I have ever heard. Especially by this man. I have both sang and listened to many GREAT songs. God Dino, you were the best when it came to singing from the heart like this. It makes me really think of of my Mom and Dad too, who are now passed on. Really hits home too. Thanks for the Sweet Memories Dino!!
Dean was very down to earth and his fame never went to his head. He was a natural and didn't have to try to be cool. One of the greatest voices of the crooners and an all round entertainer.
He was a kind generous man too. Great sense of humour. I think reason he didn’t hang out with Jerry through the years , not because of split up, because Jerry could be so mean. He didn’t hate Jerry, but kept his distance. Jeannie didn’t like Jerry either from what I respect. No disrespect to Jerry as a comic talent. But something inside of him there was a very sad place. Don’t know what. Hollywood never liked very much, But Dean was well loved.
Great memories of this song in my dad's 51 Ford on the way to our vacation spot in upstate NY in the fiftes. My mom played this record until the grooves wore OUT! Till this day I love hearing this old tune, it was my childhood, it was my family and it was a great time to grow up! Thanks Dean....RIP
I don't doubt that you remember hearing this in your Dad's '51 Ford, but the song was recorded and released in 1964. Dino has left us with special memories that span five decades of producing records (1946-1983), making movies, performing on his own TV program, as well as doing shows in Vegas. Smooth is used to describe him . . . but the Magic of Dean Martin was ( and Still is ) that you can hear his Soul in his voice❗ Nobody like DEAN❗🎶🎤
Totally agree! Sinatra's voice could not compare to Dean Martin's. I think Sinatra's greater fame is based on a couple of things: 1. Sinatra became a huge star several years before Dean; 2. he also sang the classic songs of the Great American Songbook - he sang Cole Porter, Gershwin, Johnny Mercer, etc. - and so he created a large body of great works. Dean did not sing the classics. 3. Sinatra did have a very special way with a torch song that could just rip your heart out while Dean, like Crosby, sang love songs beautifully but in a more laid back style, 4. Sinatra enjoyed a certain notoriety because of his association with the Mob in a way that Dean did not and 5. Sinatra did some movies that made him a huge star as an actor, e.g., From Here to Eternity. But Sinatra did not have a particularly beautiful voice. Sometimes it is actually painful to listen to. Bing and Dean had far, far better voices.
I been crushing on this man, Dean Martin since I was 9y/o 💖💋 The KING of COOL 😉 ..My maternal grandparents would fly United Airlines ( grandpa worked for them til he retired)..and anytime my grandparents flew to CA to visit their son, grandma would tell me if they had been on the same flight as Dino. When it was a yes, I'd always ask: Well where he is? Didn't you sneak him into baggage or something😊 And she'd feign like she was going go back & get him or something.. I was in my early teens by then..I loved our lil bit we'd do every time. I miss my grandma Ruby. She was the best grandma bar none.
ladies and gentlemen I present you the best set of pipes from the 40's, 50's and 60's. mr dean martin. i am a rock and roll fan from the early fifties and there is no voice like this man's voice.
This is my favorite version of this song. I recall listening to Dean singing this tune on those old stereo mini jukeboxes that were located on the tables in cafes back in the day when this song was a Dino hit.
James Dunn Mister Dunn... this is ages ago... you must be now a rather old man... because I too Remember those little juke-boxes on the tables.... But who cares... better being old than dying young...kind regards from Belgium Fabienne
Jerry Wallace had to hit on it he did a great job and Dean Martin do not do a better job than Jerry Wallace did Jerry Wallace had a big hit on it check it out ! commenting:
Thank God , someone else remembers those little juke boxes on the tables. Manners Bigboy had them. And they had car hops. Up until 1971. I think it was a nickle for one song. A dime for two. And a quqrter for three. Best times of my life. Girls were girls , boys were boys. And everybody cared. And nobody gave a damn about a persons color.( 70's )
In his live shows he would get creative with the lyrics and tell the audience that if they wanted to hear the original version to buy the record. What a hoot! The King of Cool could emanate such warmth.
I don't know if Dean Martin invented "cool", but I tell you he is one of the first I can remember when I was a kid. What a giant of an entertainer and from what I've heard from his friends, one of the kindest and original gentlemen ever to sing into a microphone. Both my dad and my uncle constantly played his music at home and in the car. Along with Frank Sinatra, my two favorite crooners. God Bless you Dean and thank you Johnnyrockva for the great video my friend.
Lol, many years ago a girlfriend asked me how in the hell I could listen to the Rolling Stones or Jefferson Airplane then listen to Sinatra or Deano? Still don't have an answer for her, but thank you Mom and Dad for raising me to appreciate your music by (at least) listening to... well, some of mine although Mom never could stand that sitar music.
You nailed it! We were exposed to different styles of music while we were young and open to it. Mom loved this music, and so do I. BTW, she bought me my first Beatles album in late 1964...the beat goes on!
I've heard other versions, but Dino's is by far the best. His voice is so smooth and resonant....I want to play this tune while I propose to my true love.
such a unique voice - only recently at Christmas time 2016 i heard this song for the first time and it had a real effect on me - I listened to to other singers sing this song - It seems no one can match Deans version - amazing.
whiteliketar . Luckely you find Mister Dean's golden voice in 2016... but you missed years of joy ...without his voice... Enjoy . Listen also Once to "Always" "Return to me" La vie en rose" Litlle green apples ". Stunning!kind regards from Belgium Fabienne
Great Song by Dean Martin who's vocal style is a cross between Bing Crosby & Perry Como! My favorite film of Dean Martin is Rio Bravo with Ricky Nelson, Walter Brennan who sing in the film. John Wayne and Angie Dickinson also star in the 1957 Classic Western.
Hello Aske - youre listening to it thats all that matters. It was wonderful watching his television shows on the black and white screen on television in the 60s.
Man i remember and love this from my ole man's LP's in the 60's. All the great music i remember as a kid, i now have in my collection, and this is one. I love how you sync the lyrics with the visuals, really makes for a great video. RIP Dean, and you too Pop. Well done, thanks for the upload. 😄😄😇
Thanks for the excellent video accompaniment. I forgot how good Dean's version was until I heard it once more. It has a number of things going for it that are entirely absent in today's pop music scene.
what a song...what a singer...what a man...I remember so well when I was a teenager that this song was played every morning when I had to get up to go to school..I agree with everything uscgcampell writes above me ;-) hope Dino you are having a good time up there where we hopefully will meet one day and shall sing together That's Amore...thank you for uploading this song which was played today on our Swiss radio...
I remember listening to this classic song on a one-time legendary MOR station in Phoenix, AZ KOY AM 55. I like this version & the original done by Jerry Wallace, thanks for posting it.
A love Sir DEAN MARTIN. He had just got it. A think any age or era in life, he would've still bn successful.... Cheers me up...But it's a different cheering up to my other songs a like. Do ya get me....
Always watched his variety show. Never fail. When he would run and jump on the piano and then sing. One time they put in a piano made of balsa wood. Dino jumped on it and landed on his butt and just laid there and laughed. Too funny!
Nancy Jones I LOVED that show! I got to stay up and watch it with my mom -- Thursday nights I believe.. When TV was worth watching and the music was actually GOOD music!
+Nancy Jones I remember that show when the piano collapsed too! I fell out of my chair laughing so hard...I also remember his show was on at 10 pm every Thursday night on NBC..strange how one remembers such detail after all these years...
Truly a favorite of mine, to this Old Man, Dino Crocetti of Stubbenville, OH, AKA Dean Martin, will always be Mr. Smooth and the Best of the Rat Pack talents.
