Even though he is being a little funny for the show and maybe some friends off to his left , he sure has a OUTSTANDING voice. I can see why he was so popular. RIP Dean
Dean had so much fun joking around while singing, that was part of his charm and talent. He knew he was good but never faulted it. Garrison once said by the time the credits were rolling after the show Dean was out the door. He would give his best and out he went. Gotta love him.
They don't compose, arrange, sing or play them like this any more. Great melodies are like great paintings, if you don't preserve them, you lose them - forever.
This film clip appears to be taken from Martin's NBC series and I would estimate that it is circa 1965 or 1966. He looks great, i.e. during the time that he was making the Matt Helm series.
I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter Oh, make believe it came from you I'm gonna write words, oh, so sweet They're gonna knock me off my feet A lotta kisses at the bottom I'll be glad I got 'em I'm gonna smile and say I hope you're feeling better And close with love the way you do I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter Make believe that it came straight from you I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter And make believe it came from you I'm gonna write words, oh, so sweet They're gonna knock me off my feet A lotta kisses at the bottom I'll be glad I got 'em Smile and say I hope you're feeling better And close with love the way you do I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a long, long letter Make believe it came Make believe it came Make believe it came from you
