this made me cry bc my grandpa used to sing this to me and my brother when we were little and he's no longer with us but this is such a beautiful song ❤
I'm so glad to have found this version of Volare.I grew up listening to my mom play this and sing it over and over.I guess I got my love of Italian singers from her.I have discovered so many great artists on RU-vid.
There are some peope in this world who just shouldn't have died. Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Kole...and the sad thing is, so many people in the younger generation don't know/appreciate them like we should. My great-grandfather was blown out of the water when I said I loved Sinatra on a road trip
Volare, oh oh Cantare, oh oh oh oh Let's fly way up to the clouds Away from the maddening crowds We can sing in the glow of a star that I know of Where lovers enjoy peace of mind Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind Just like birds of a feather, a rainbow together we'll find Volare, oh oh E contare, oh oh oh oh No wonder my happy heart sings Your love has given me wings Penso che un sogno cosi non ritorni mai piu Mi dipingevo le mani e la faccia di blu Poi d'improvviso venivo dal vento rapito E incominciavo a volare nel cielo infinito Volare, oh oh E contare, oh oh oh oh Nel blu, dipinto di blu Felice di stare lassu E volavo, volavo felice piu in alto del sole ed ancora piu su Mentre il mondo pian piano spariva lontano laggiu Una musica dolce suonava soltanto per me Volare, oh oh E cantare, oh oh oh oh No wonder my happy heart sings Your love has given me wings Nel blu, dipinto di blu Felice di stare lassu
When I was born, this song was 43 years old. I was born into the rap/hip hop era of music and I was content with that until I was introduced to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and all the other great musicians of this era. I’ve never enjoyed music so much in my life now that I’ve given myself years of listening to this music and letting it really sink in. I’m grateful that I learned what real music was all about.
it does make you want to dance - even if one is neither Italian nor understands half of it. Keep the memory alive and dance in the kitchen in their memory ;-).
Kizernonzinger . I really hope you will be dancing that with your husband one day! And your kid would watch you and be happy@ I have lost my mother , and i miss her too :(
"No wonder my happy heart sings, your love has given me wings"... when was the last time we heard such lyrics without having to reach back 50 years? This is why this song and thousands of others will live on forever... they touch the human heart, regardless of time and place.
Wow the rat pack is in the air today - What fun ! I was born in 1961 - It’s cool that the high quality music of - Sinatra - Martin - Davis jr. - continues to be appreciated by younger listeners from generation to generation - They carry a spirit - a beat that so easy to listen to - Bravo !
I love Dean Martin because my grandmother would blast him in the car all the time when I was around 5 years old and now that she is gone I'm here listening to him but it makes me think of my grandmother and that's why I love his music now.. I don't understand why I didn't like It before❤️💯
Had Dino since the day I was born, some of the most gorgeous musical arrangements and timeless swagger, when I’m hitting a wedding, a job interview or a date I’m getting my Dean on, and can’t forget Danny D’anello my gramps who would be cookin the sauce on Sunday blasting Dino, and the rest of the rat pack respectively, along with army classics and would set up my pots and pans drum set, I’m 26 and I’ve been a drummer since 3 years old, and Dino drumming is an exercise in focus balance and discipline
I remember dancing to this song and a few other great ones with a young beautiful Paizana named Rosa at Nino,s Pizzaria at 47Th & Belmont Street in Belmont Heights in Washington, DC. ( Little Italy). She has a younger Sister named Appalonia. Well thank God their Daddy never found out, and if he did, well it was to late to say anything. He did not want his Daughters being around me. He told them that I am just a young Sicilian ( but of course American) boy on his way to being a Gangster. And thank God I never became one. I later joined the Marines.
Man who raised me and my mother brought me up on this. Frankie, Deano, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder. All types of music. I can go from gangster to Al Green in a second. Love all music, gives me words when I can't say what I feel. 😢😢😔😔
Absolutely love Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra n Connie Francis...I grew up listening to them...my granddaddy would let me stand on his feet n we'd dance to them...most wonderful memories!!
Wonderful lyrics and great voice, real talent! I've loved this song since I was a teenager. Love the mix of English and Italian - reminds me of Italy, a beautiful country that I have visited several times during the 1980's.
"Volare" original title "Nel blu dipinto di blu" was written and sung by Domenico Modugno from Puglia, Italy. It won the Italian music "Festival of Sanremo" in 1958. Soon after it became a worldwide hit as "Volare" and was beautifully performed by Dean Martin (Dino P. Crocetti) whose parents weren't from Sicily, as some might think, but from central Italy. His father was from Abruzzo and his mother was probably from Molise or Campania.
It just goes to show that alot of us Americans of Sicilian descent are some great People. We have Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Bruce Springsteen, Steven Van Zandt, Don Ameche, Richard Conte, Al Pacino, Robert Di Niro, Chaz Palmenteri and Gina Lola briga. And many more. And some of the Actors from Sicily who acted back in Sicily back in the old days. Regina Marciano, Franchesca Galliano, Linda Marconi and Gianni Frehlini. And I almost forgot. Alina Russo. And I am very proud to be an American of Sicilian descent.
Lord Bomba. Well OK. You are right. But don,t forget Alizia Barzini. She was born in Bagheria in 1898. She stared in many Siciliani/ Itlaliano movies from the early 1920,s to around the late 40,s to early 50,s. She died in Palermo in July of 1976. She was one very talented and Beautiful Actress.
Lord Bomba. And don,t forget Carlo Gambino. Now here is another great Siciliana Actress. Louisa Firamonti. She was originally from Corleone born but she grew up in Palermo. She was born in 1893 in Corleone and died in 1978 in Palermo. She is burried in The Santa Helena Cemetery in Palermo. She was very beautiful and a great talented Siciliana Actress. R.I.P. Louisa.
American Nationalist. Well it does not really make any difference what you are. This is for everyone to enjoy. And I am glad you love this. I am American of course, but of Sicilian descent and I live in the Augusta Bey Region. Thank you for the comment. Have a very Merry Christmas, and a safe and happy New Year.
And what? Why shall we be ashamed of that? I m convinced that the real shame is to listen to Conchita Wurst or any stupid money aimed popular music. ;)
I remember going to my uncles restaurant down in the Italian part of Boston and eating there all the time and helping him clean up the place and this music playing sadly I'm in New York away from family studying in college but man I miss my family all of hem
the Italian in the break part seems so romantic, I picture him singing among the tables and getting close to the ears of a table of ladies, them swooning. I love this.
The "Italian Version" of my real birth name! All my Hundreds++(OMG!) of Italian Family members have been singing this Dino song to me all my life. Lost BOTH my 90++ yr old Mom & even sadder my oldest & dearest Brother(only early 60's); in past Six Months. Still in shock, but in Honor of all my amazing Ancestors from Naples, IT. , instead of crying & getting depressed/sad; I have been watching You Tube Videos/songs for past months & Smiling up at them all in Heaven; cause I Know they ALL have earned their "Angel Wings" & they're up there singing, laughing & dancing together. Having a Huge celebration with 1000's of long lost relatives, hosting the Most Fun & exciting party in Heaven; & it would be so crowded, that even GOD would need a VIP invitation to attend (lol). Hugs & Smiles to them ALL ; "A La Familigia", Always & Forever!
Thank God for these wonderful old songs and singers. No more. Boy do the folks of today have nothing to smile about. These songs made you smile and sing.
Such a velvety smooth voice. So handsome! Such charisma. The closest they come to him now-a-days us George Clooney, but he does not even reach Dean's ankles when it comes to talent! 😍😘💖
I have been gifted the voice of a crooner, a voice out of its time, it’s quite ironic actually seeing as it’s only appreciated by my great grandmother and the other few admirers of Dino. I’m not flaunting my ability to sing like this wonderful artist for I lack creativity but I’m just sad that his music is so under appreciated.
Love you Dean, you & my Daddy favored so much, you all looked like Brothers,May you rest in peace & my Daddy also,May you rest in peace my Daddy,I love & miss you
During Lockdown (Covid) in the UK, I would go walking with a friend and her dogs. All of a sudden she would go onto Utube on her phone and put Volare on, sing it and we both would dance to it. We had so many laughs dancing at the park, singing away (I wonder what the dogs thought ... Wacko!). It also reminds me of my mum (RIP) who use to put this record on the Music Centre in the 70s. Great memories!
One of the most remembered songs of my youth, blasting out of my parents radio. It represents a moment in time of my much younger self and my love for music
I played and sang this song for my lil baby gurl wen she was 3..and now she's 6 going on 7 and she still remembers it...love u Dean tru Italian American...no cuomo..🤠
