*Full english translation for anyone interested :)* Fly, oh oh Sing, oh oh oh oh Let's fly way up to the clouds Away from the maddening crowds We can sing in the glow of a star that I know of Where lovers enjoy peace of mind Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind Just like birds of a feather, a rainbow together we'll find Fly, oh oh And sing, oh oh oh oh No wonder my happy heart sings Your love has given me wings I think a dream like this never comes back I painted my hands and face in blue Then suddenly I came from the wind kidnapped And I began to fly in the infinite sky Fly, oh oh And sing, oh oh oh oh In the blue, painted in blue Happy to be up there And I flew, I flew happily higher than the sun and even higher on While the world slowly disappeared far down there Sweet music played only for me Fly, oh oh And sing, oh oh oh oh No wonder my happy heart sings Your love has given me wings In the blue, painted in blue Happy to be up there *Have a great day !*
I finally made it to Italy at 65 and on my gondola ride in Venice they sang this and it was all I could do not to get emotional. So many memories attached to it. Best trip ever. By Trafalgar.
Last year I bought a 2002 bmw convertable. As I drove down lake shore drive in Chicago on a 70° summer night, I accidentally pushed the CD button and "Dino The Essential Dean Martin Collection" was what the previous owner had left in the cd player. I popped that suckered right back in, and cranked the radio up! Talk about a perfect drop-top late night cruise CD for the city
Update: sold the car a couple months back and unfortunately made the same mistake as the previous owner. I left the CD in the cars CD player. Called up the guy i sold it to and told him my predicament. He mailed out the CD today
This song here in Italy is very famous! The original lyrics in italian is: "volare, oh oh cantare...oh oh oh oh nel blu, dipinto di blu, felice di stare lassù!" Greetings from Sicily and god bless all the italians in the world! Ciao
Enrico Pacino: Hello from California USA! I was in Italy many years ago and fell in love with Italy, the culture and food, but most of all the Italian people who were so warm and friendly to me. Their love of beauty brings so much to the world. So I will join you in saying god bless all the Italians in the world!
King of Cool. Looked like he slept in a tuxedo and nothing seemed to phase him. Unique singer/actor. Right man, in the right place, in the right era for his talent: Vegas; Hollywood movies: recording; concerts -he conquered them all and had it all and seemed to hold it all together effortlessly, tied up in a comedic personality. And, of course, he has left us a treasure trove of recordings. He had the same agent for all his professional life, who said after Dino's death, that Dino was the nicest guy he ever met. Well done Dino! RIP
I love this tune. Dean Martin is definitely my guilty pleasure. Love his voice, love the way this tune makes me feel. I love it when he sings in Italian..... So romantic
Dean martin is my Grandfathers favourite singer . This song tells us be happy and make your heart happy and do your work and away from negative people. This song promotes peace.
I never heard this beautiful translation. It just works perfectly without taking away from the feel of the original Italian lyrics. This was such a big hit in 1958. I remember hearing it on the radio all the time in Cuba when I was 11. It was a huge hit and you could hear people in the streets singing the chorus. Nobody knew what it said but everybody knew it was a happy song. It sounded happy. Finding these English lyrics is wonderful. Sung like only Dino could sing it. Now I gotta go have Italian food. Ha, ha !
I was so blessed to be alive when Mr Martin was still alive. Thank you dear one for all the beautiful things you did that we all were able to watch, the way you made us laugh, the way you captured our hearts with that voice. Hats off to one of the few stars that we can say was an honorable man. Not to many of those left now a days..............RIP my friend.
Indeed a beautiful song If I ever remarry let al little bit of history come my way my parents enjoyed dancing to this song l can have it played on my wedding Certainly why not
I’m Mexican. My bloodline is Spainered forsure. My grandfather is from a Indian tribe called Yaqui. Over all I love Italian heritage. We are very similar.
Dino we miss you more than ever and thank you for your wonderful voice in the trying times of COVID19. You are a voice of sanity that keeps us grounded listening to you and it brings hope. God bless you looking down on us from heaven and see if you can get the big boss to help us get through this crisis!
So my dad passed away about a year ago and I have been racking my brain till this very day looking for this ...to whomever put this up Thank you thank you thank you!! Yes I'm crying my eyes out!!! Not all hero's wear capes my friend. Thank you.
Most of the song may be Italian but some of it is also Latin. I don't know if the Latin words are actually also Italian without being changed. I took 4 years of Latin in high school and my teacher liked finding ways to help us remember the words. She played just a snippet of the song for the word volare - to fly. So every time we saw that word kids would just sing it out loud.
An icon music italian-american perfection. My Dean Martin, one of my favorite music of his work. I am singing the Volare and the That's Amore, for training my voice for my theater classes. The idea of mixing the Italian and English American languages in the song is out of this world. Dean Martin, the best. Bye.
My grandfather was Italian, I just wanted to show this song to him and ask the meanings of the words. he died 04/04/18. How I wish I had known this song before he died.
Jenna Wood you are spot on Jenna, I never used to like music like this when I was young but now it is simply fantastic and I like dean the best of all the crooners.
This song is so romantic and has that sense of 'far away' feel to it where one can detach themselves from true life and lose themselves in a dream or other worldly plains!🌕
nope, i'm 16 and love it :) and theres a girl I know who's my age and she loves classical music! A lot of the older music is better than todays stuff :) x
To those commenting about his bad pronunciation: You have to remember, in this time period Italian immigrants were still discriminated against. Dean was able to mix it in b/c he made it sound good, but he was still an English speaker and American first b/c that’s what was acceptable at the time. Language is tricky, especially if you have to change primary language when you’re young. My dad was born in USA, then as a little kid went to visit family in Italy. He picked up Italian so well, he couldn’t speak English for a while when he came home - they mocked him in school for it, he never truly spoke Italian again.
Per wikipedia, Dean Martin's first language was Italian and he did not learn english until elementary school. He was also bullied for his broken english.
I'm going to be listening to this song all day because one of the biggest bosses that do all the feast in Brooklyn New York and queens and the Bronx has passed away we will miss him always will never be forgotten
