I was not sure whether I should post this video or not. It is deeply personal and makes me vulnerable. My mom and dad made many sacrifices to raise me and provide me good education. But they never approved of my bicycle touring. Whenever I think about how hard their lives were and what they wanted me to become, and what I eventually became, I feel ashamed and sad for going against their wish.
Before my bicycle journey from the Middle East to South Africa started, I visited the graveyard in Layyah to say goodbye to my parents and, once again, asked for their forgiveness...
Dear Mom & Dad,
Another journey begins. I wonder what you would have said.
You never approved of my cycling adventures.
Mom, I couldn't take you for a ride on my bicycle. I wish I could show you the world.
Dad, you worked so hard to pay from my tuition. I could never pay the debt of the blisters on your hands.
There is a strange silence in the graveyard. It is drowning my heart.
This journey doesn't begin with prayers but with tears.
Who knows when and where we will see each other again. In this universe or another?
Please forgive me for choosing this way of life!
