I agree with a good amount of things here. Not everything, but a good amount. Square’s decision about NFTs and AI harmed the “goodwill” it had with fans and I think that is what their main problem lies. They, as a company, have to show that they are here for the people that are buying their games. There’s a reason FF14 is LITERALLY carrying the company. They delayed the release of there next expansion, Dawntrail, buy a week because the Elden Ring dlc would’ve came out on the same day and they wanted to “give us one week” Here’s where I start disagreeing. A company doing things that another genre does isn’t “modernizing” them, it’s making them a different genre. That’s why they are different genres, they do different things. Every game you brought up to compare is a western rpg. If there were some jrpgs that did what you’re asking square to do, that would be better for comparison. As far as diversity, ngl I don’t want to be represented in FF16, play the game and you’ll see why but in FF7 rebirth, there were more black people then I was expecting, and I mean BLACK PEOPLE, not white/asian people with a dark shinned coat of paint. Only time will tell, but I want to say they’ll get better with that. This was a great video. Very well made yet again 💪🏾💪🏾

Thanks for the great insight man. The reason I referred to those points about player choice, character creation, and diversity as modern as opposed to other genre is because jrpgs, and final fantasy as a whole is the old school. The standard. These ideas came later, likely from people who grew up on Squares games and were making improvements. In the same way that Square moves toward real time combat as a way to connect with modern audience sensibilities, they could incorporates all of some of these and still be jrpgs. And diversity doesn't just mean more black people... Indians, Chinese, Spanish, Caribbean, Brazilian... black and brown and every culture in the world is available to draw inspiration from, way to much to just endlessly go to medieval Britain and call it a day. In the end I know I don't speak for everyone, but I think these things would help where a lot of gamers like me just look at the newest square stuff and say 'pass' ❤
