*please SUBSCRIBE to my channel!* Leslie tells the story of first seeing Hamilton, and then performed his signature song 'Dear Theodosia' at the McKittrick Hotel -- a brilliant jazz arrangement.
He practically killed every part he was in. Wait for it was amazing and when part of it returned in non-stop he sounded so passionate I was genuinely blown away and satisfied (pun intended)
I sing this to my kids. It works perfectly because my daughter's name is Audrey Dora and my son's name is Ollie, so they both fit into the names like a glove. Also, my daughter is named after my grandma so I say "You have my eyes, you have my grandma's name"
Burr is my favourite from Hamilton because Leslie brings him to life. He feels the character and he acts and sings so well. It makes me feel something. My favourites are Wait For It, Dear Theodosia (original and reprise) and The Room Where It Happened. He becomes Burr and that's what you need for it to work. They all got into their characters and brought it to life but Burr was definitely my favourite by far and that is because of this legend ❤️
The only reason Burr isn't my favorite character is because he's sleazy as hell. Not to mention, your 100th time listening to it, you start to realize that Hamilton is right about him not having any beliefs.
In my opinion Leslie has the best voice and stage presence of the entire cast, and that is saying a lot because they are all fantastic! But Leslie rises to the top for me.
I'm a history major and Hamilton cast will forever be the modern version of these characters. George Washington is Chris Jackson. Daveed Sighs will be Tom Jefferson. Leslie Odom's is forever Aaron Burr. He gave Burr so much character. It was hard to hate him. He saw his protege go above him in favor.
@Delta Nah, this isn't jazz at all. This isn't anything to do with the performance not being upbeat, it's that very little of what is going on could be compared to jazz, the exception being the brief and nonetheless completely diatonic and decidedly not-jazzy piano improvisation. Nice performance, but definitely not jazz ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ngl kinda cringe when he strays from the melody, sometimes it doesnt work... this is not jazz there is a distinct lack of anything past a triad or anything beyond 4 chords. his talent is his voice, not music.
3:27 *_and it takes, and it takes, and it takes, and it takes, and it takes, and it takes_* Okay, jokes aside- LESLIE HAS SUCH A LOVELY AND CALMING VOICE I LOVE HIS TONE AND VIBRATO GAHH
This rendition of Dear Theodosia slays me. @.@ And Leslie's right. It's incredible ALL the bloody songs in Hamilton are bops and they all came out of Lin's head. WOW.
I'm in choir, and I've listened to many singers. Leslie Odom Jr. is a true talent! I've always enjoyed listening to him sing. As I know well, it's difficult to sing well, but he makes it seem so effortless!
Can we talk about the little heartbreak in his eyes when he truly realises Lin is not there singing... Ofc he is laughing at the pianist and his little moment but the little sadness... Or was it just me?
When Leslie started singing his thank you in Falsetto (at least that's what I think that's called,) I was like, "damn, that's a speaking voice I could listen to forever." His high register is really his sweet spot I feel. It's smooth like butter, soft, and very calming. His daughter is lucky to be able to have that voice calm her and comfort her to sleep. Leslie needs to make a lullaby album.
He sings this song with so much passion. And it breaks my heart because Theodosia actually gets lost at Sea at age 29. And thinking about the song Just is so sad
Even though he played a villain in Hamilton and we're not suppose to really like him, I honestly love him. The character, him as an actor and a person. He's just amazing.
Everytime I see him i remember the ballet perf the room where it happened... now this is new... i appreciated this more because of the atmosphere and the mic...
Dear Theodosia is definitely my comfort song. Whenever I feel like my mind is rumbling, whenever I get these awful thoughts, I play this song and these threads that were tangled slowly untangle. It feels like Leslie's tucking me to bed and singing a lullaby to me hahaha
