Yes most people who use food stamps in the USA are white, but you simply glide past the fact, and it is a statistical fact, that over 65% of oyour population is white and yet just over 40% who claim food stamps are white. Black people make up about 12% of your population, yet claim a quarter of food stamps. Im British so looking at this from an outsider perspective. Corporations aren't the problem, the government is, capitalism is the best system for all to prosper, but we have strayed from true capitalism we have a crony system where the government has too much power and allows wall street lobbyist to get their way because the government has the power to be influenced, we need to de-regulate our market and lower our corporate taxes (that end up mostly going to waste anyways) so that RICH PEOPLE can create jobs, increase productivity and be competitive, the nature of the market can't work when we have bailouts and subsidiaries which make companies "too big to fail". If all you have to say about socialism is that someone else tried it and failed then you have been subject to historical inaccuracy or at the every least a victim of your own memory. We learned in history classes that a nation tried it and the state ruined it. Now most are taking what they barely remember about that knowledge and applying it to modern day programs. Something bad happened and it had something to do with a nation with socialistic programs. This just isn't how it works. Example, the financial system is broken yet we all play into everyday. The difference is all in the name. State-run is what we know from history. In this, the State delegates resources evenly. What went wrong was the government wanted to fight a war and the rationale went to "what's good for the state is good for the people". This turned caused an implosion when all resources feed into a military while the people starved. This failed from a lack of leadership and priorities. Not from the concept itself. Besides, the plans suggest now days are not complete socialistic. It is a few program budget increases, all of which have financial planning to back up and pay for them. Due diligence is a must. There is no human threat that could threaten our national security to the point where it becomes crucial to allocate more resources towards defense away from society.

People would starve while a privileged few lived on hilltops. Capitalism is a good thing, but it must be complimented with other concepts that fill in the gaps it has. Think about it, if we all opened stores then who would be our market? There would be no market except anyone that isn't you. If we all owned grocery stores, the wouldn't go anywhere. Capitalism requires a lot of infrastructure to run successfully. Social programs provide this. Example are the communication and transportation infrastructure of this country. This ideas compliment each other. That is the end goal; too merge the to ideas to make a better society. Right now in the USA, there is plenty of prime examples of Capitalism getting to big for its own good. This is why we have laws to limit the strength of such companies. A very recent example of this is ISPs. ISP are beginning to charge users for the amount of internet they use instead of just the service itself. Think of a resource like water. It makes since to monitor usage since clean/potable water is a scarce resource. However, the internet is merely a means to communicate. The infrastructure was built to connect us and not as a means to charge the people, in of itself;It was a means to an end. ISP also want to charge user's who watch streaming video because it uses more bandwidth.

I don't think its a crime but I recognize a lot of it as being due to luck and chance. The top .1% holds 90% of wealth in this country. Most rich families stay rich and most poor families stay poor. Capitalism is supposed to give everyone an equal opportunity to succeed based on their personal ability. But personal ability isn't what matters most anymore, it's how rich the family your born into is, and how lucky you get. There are millions of people who work just as hard as millionaires and billionaires and still are just scraping by. The system is flawed. Neither socialism nor capitalism will solve it, but rather a mix of the two is what this country just might need.

Our objection to your economics, and the word socialism, is not because we don't care but because we do. We don't want the economic polices of Cuba, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Red China, Vietnam, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, really most every grindingly poor place currently or of recent memory, because you tell us THIS time it'll be a Sweden or Denmark. You don't understand how their economic polices differ from what you push, and you want us to make the same mistakes as the others because they sound as compassionate to you as they did to the poor Venezuelans. And even if you could promise us Sweden or Denmark, it's not like we're all trying to sneak over there in boats anyway. Is the fact that living standards in the U.S. are higher in general so all of their employees are most likely more expensive as they are sometimes equally prepared. Also raw materials are most likely found in other countries where it can be transported more cheaply. Also, the fact that people in the US enjoys the freedom to not be exploited by their companies should make you proud. People here has been fighting for increased wages that are plausible for the last 100 years, other countries are barely starting, but are most likely fucked by their government not standing up for them and allowing exploitation. So if a company can leave to be established at a country where exploitation is allowed, why would you say "Oh no, let's make exploitation a thing here again so they don't leave". Companies would not go out of business from increased wages, considering only a small fraction of their payroll goes to minimum wage earners. They just want the extra "obvious" profits from exploitation; just like was argued some centuries ago for slavery.

I have heard a lot about Chinese manufacturers having dismally low regulatory safety standards, to the point where it's basically common knowledge, but I haven't seen the documentation. Not necessarily doubting it, just curious. We don't need to lower our standards to the lowest possible point, but the fact remains, that many of the regulations we have enacted DO compel firms to outsource their labor. It's a matter of finding a balance. Who knows the right answer. And chances are there's nothing anyone can do about it, because the forces that be will always have their way. I'm curious to see what people have to say about this; discussion is good.

I know this first hand, I'm from El Salvador. A really close aunt of mine was literally the top executive for the GAP plant in El Salvador around 12 years ago. She made millions! Until Chinese markets showed even a better deal and GAP moved over there. My Father used to own a sock factory and had to close it because of China's competition. It sucks to compete against these over-populated, over-labor-supplied, and exploitative economies; especially when they artificially devalue their currency to make it more affordable to buy Chinese goods. Given that China's economy was rising but not the standards of living; and well now its going down in free fall.

As for the wall, every president has supported and funded the wall. You're more likely to die in a car accident than from a gun, in fact you're three times more likely to be saved by a gun rather than killed by one. I am against the redefinitions in the Patriot Act and the legalization of killing Americans without any semblance of law. The American people who put Trump in office overwhelming put Obama in office, Trump polled higher with minorities than most Republican candidates and won a lot of the uneducated white vote that previously voted for Obama for two straight elections, only someone who doesn't know the facts can call that racial motivation. If you raise the minimum wage then the price of goods go up or we lose jobs. The way you get people to be paid a fair wage is to remove the minimum wage and allow companies to hire people based on what they are worth rather than meeting diversity quotas to avoid lawsuits. The Chinese allow businesses to grow more than America does, we need to let the businesses grow and be successful and to create a larger profit. I'm not for capping Walmart at the knees ten years ago, I'm glad they grew, they provide all of us with inexpensive goods and food and employ a lot of people I know that were struggling for work before them, but now can make a decent wage. The mark of good politicians isn't whether they take lobbyists money. We need to stop the subsidies and government insurance of the risky behavior. It's all reward and little risk.
