Very difficult to rank Death albums. They all rule. 1. Human 2. Individual Thought Patterns 3. Symbolic 4. Leprosy 5. The Sound of Perseverance 6. Spiritual Healing 7. Scream Bloody Gore
Death is my favorite band of all time. I first heard them in 1992. Oddly it was only 'Scream Bloody Gore' and 'Spiritual Healing' that I heard at that time; somehow I missed 'Leprosy' and 'Human.' I definitely remember when 'Individual Thought Patterns' was released; it absolutely blew me away. I had the ITP long sleeve t-shirt back then. Just like every other fan of Death, my album ranking changes all the time, though 'Scream Bloody Gore,' as amazing as it is, and as important as it was, is always last. Chuck simply got better all the time, and has probably created the only discography in all of music, with more than three albums, in which I love every single song on every single album. 1) Individual Thought Patterns [favorite song: Nothing is Everything] 2) The Sound of Perseverance [favorite song: Story to Tell] 3) Human [favorite song: Secret Face] 4) Spiritual Healing [favorite song: Living Monstrosity] 5) Symbolic [favorite song: Symbolic] 6) Leprosy [favorite song: Open Casket] 7) Scream Bloody Gore [favorite song: Zombie Ritual] I enjoyed this video, thanks for posting it.
Necrotic Nick- I love every phase of the band but I am slightly more partial to Leprosy since that album catapulted the entire Florida death metal scene. They laid the blueprint for death metal and practically created that entire genre. Not many musicians get to lay claim to that honor.
@@thrallsofmetal When a band has a basically flawless discography, there is no wrong answer to the question of which of their albums is the best. Leprosy is absolutely amazing, and undoubtedly the template for OSDM.
I'd go with 1. Human 2. Symbolic 3. Sound of perseverance 4. Individual thought patterns 5. Spiritual Healing 6. Scream bloody gore 7. Leprosy Love leprosy btw all great bangers
1. Human 2. Symbolic 3. Leprosy 4. Spiritual Healing 5. Individual Thought Patterns 6. Scream Bloody Gore 7. The Sound Of Perseverance All really good albums! Very hard to rank.
1 Symbolic (favourite album of all time - my only 10/10 flawless album in every aspect) 2 Human (intense, melodic, super tight (the double bass) and to the point / shorter than the other 90s albums, See Through Dreams, Vacant Planets, Secret Face!) 3 The Sound of Perseverance (the most melodic of them, sick bass lines too, and mesmerizing drumming, that cymbal work!) 4 Leprosy (my favourite oldschool death metal album, period. The riffs are mean (those pinches), the solos are screaming, the drums are smashing (that snare!)) 5 Individual Thought Patterns (So technical at times. The hits are many: Jealousy, Trapped In A Corner, Overactive, Out of Touch, Destiny, Mentally Blind!) 6 Spiritual Healing (weakest drum production, but GREAT songwriting, awesome melodies -> Defensive Personality & Genetic Reconstruction are underrated!) 7 Scream Bloody Gore (the simplest of them all, kinda muddy but still reverb-y production in a fitting way. Sharp guitars, and Chuck's BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE) Not a single bad or even "meh" album, nor even a s i n g l e s o n g !!! Consistent without being bland for 7 full albums (technically 8 - Control Denied)
My ranking (the hardest one for me): 1. Symbolic 2. Individual Thought Patterns 3. Scream Bloody Gore 4. Leprosy 5. Human 6. Spiritual Healing 7. The Sound of Perseverance Though, my ranking for Death changes almost every time as these albums were classics.
I have no idea how the fuck is Spiritual Healing usually so low on people's lists. It's my #1 Death album without doubt. I love "mid tempo" Death metal that isn't constant blast beats throughout. I never liked Slayer for that very reason (for example, Reign In Blood is consider their best album but to it's just the same song/passage over and over again, except for the title track and Angel of Death which I love as individual songs), and when I got into Death metal, the old school "slower" bands are the ones that caught my love the most. So my order of albums from Worst to Best would be Scream Bloody Gore, Sound of Perseverance, Human, Leprosy, Symbolic/Individual Thought Patterns (I just can't choose, they both sound similar to me and are brutally awesome) and of course, Spiritual Healing.
1) Sound of Perseverance 2) Leprosy 3) Symbolic 4) Spiritual Healing 5) Human 6) Scream Bloody Gore 7) Individual Thought Patterns Death were one of the key bands that made me love metal. Yet another band that I loved in my earlier metal years that has a perfect discography.
I always feel like I’m the only one who much prefers early Death to the later Death. I just feel the first two albums especially retain energy that wouldn’t be replicated on any other album in their discography.
1. Symbolic 2. Individual Thought Patterns 3. The Sound of Perseverance 4. Scream Bloody Gore 5. Leprosy 6. Human 7. Spiritual Healing As most Death fans I do love all of these albums
Great job guys 🤘 I really enjoyed your video ! The cool thing here is nobody is wrong , I’ve yet to see the exact same ranking twice . Ranking greatness such as Death is super tough , we could easily call this a 7 way tie for first lol . R.I.P. Evil Chuck , a man ahead of his time 🤘 Take care guys ~ Darcy
Looking forward to more ranking videos ! I tried a few on my channel , it’s fun but you’ll never please everybody & that’s ok , we are all here for the same reasons 🤘 Metal !!
Not a single bad Death album- all are amazing! 1. Sound of Perseverance 2. Spiritual Healing 3. Individual Thought Patterns 4. Symbolic 5. Scream Bloody Gore 6. Human 7. Leprosy Apparently there's 7 billion combinations of 7 album rankings, because it really seems that every person has a totally different ranking of them (& as stated in the vid: that ranking will subtily change). Hard topic for sure!
Individual Thought Patterns is one of those perfect moments in time. Not just for Death, but the entire metal genre in general. It is a victory of conceptual bliss. Out of Touch is one of those songs that covers all the metal bases in one complete vision. Progressive and evades the intellect with surprises where the technical mastery isn't just a sequence of flexing, but really extension of feeling and expression. "Who are you to question my sincerity?". It is kinetic energy personified. Did I mention I like this record? ;)
Yeah, my faves are defo the unholy trinity of Symbolic, Human and Individual but which one i prefer kind of changes alongside my mood of that particular moment. Individual comes out on top very often i must say!
1. The Sound of Perseverance 2. Leprosy 3. Symbolic 4. Individual Thought Patterns 5. Spiritual Healing 6.Human 7.Scream Bloody Gore But every single album is masterpiece
1. Leprosy 2. Spiritual healing 3. Symbolic 4. Scream bloody gore 5. Human 6. Sound of perseverance 7. Individual thought patterns 3 and 4 I could swap tbh. Not sure why Spiritual healings is number 7 in a lot of people's lists ? 🤔
The Sound Of Perseverance is one of kind and there is still nothing that sounds like it to this day. This discography is one of the hardest to rank and my ranking changes all the time because of it. 1. The Sound Of Perseverance 2. Leprosy 3. Spiritual Healing 4. Symbolic 5. Scream Bloody Gore 6. Human 7. Individual Thought Patterns
I love watching people discuss Death! All of their albums are 10/10 and offer something different so everyone’s ranking can be in any order and make sense. Hell, if can change day to day. Personally, 1. Symbolic 2. Human 3. Spiritual Healing 4. Sound of Perseverance 5. Leprosy 6. Individual Thought Patterns 7. Scream Bloody Gore
An idea ‘DEATH 2’ with all the other groups after Death for the remaining members & Rest In Peace to the passed legends. Have a great one + I enjoy the channel
Leprosy was incredibly memorable. It's got to be the catchiest Death albums. Songs like Left To Die , and Pull the Plug are just as memorable as any Pop songs
You guys are the absolute fucking best music review channel and I am binge watching all your stuff right now. You all clearly know what you're talking about and the banter is entertaining and hilarious. I would love to see a ranking of Cryptopsy and Dying Fetus albums \m/
I class The Sound of Perseverence as my favourite Death album, I don't know if it was because it was the last one he did, but I found the whole thing an emotional experience, Spiritual Healing is second and also incredibly underrated in their discography for some reason, and third I'd probably pick Human!
I love Death \m/ My list has to be; 1-Leprosy 2-Scream Bloody Gore 3-Sound of Perseverance 4-Symbolic 5-Human 6-Spiritual Healing 7-Individual Thought Patterns All their albums are awesome tho
Me and my friends do a show called retrospective on this channel where we go over the history and review albums from a bands discog, you might like it.
Awesome video guys! my favorite Death album is Spiritual Healing! to me its their heaviest album so many mosh pit riffs \m/ i'd like to see you rank Cannibal Corpse or Morbid Angel next!
Death the greatest death metal band next to Obituary! Chuck changed metal forever and never got to see it due to passing way before his time, 1) Spiritual Healing. 2) Human. 3) Symbolic and God of Thunder is a great song imo,
Necrotic Nick- I love both those bands. Chuck was a visionary for sure. I’m still partial to Leprosy but they really don’t have a bad album in my opinion.
It's hard to rank them but for me DEATH albums are all masterpiece & legendary.💀🤘🔥💯 Scream Bloody Gore = 98% Leprosy = 99% Spiritual Healing = 96% Human = 98% Individual Thought P. = 95% Symbolic = 99% The Sounds of P. = 98%
Just crashed in this video and liked it, Death is my all time favorite band (no wonder mi nickname is "Misanthrope" anywhere) and I'm happy to see you guys dared to even try to do a ranking on these fantstic albums... I don't agree with some (being Symbolic my favorite album ever) but again, it's too hard to rank on such fantastic masterpieces. Cheers, nice work being the first video!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! This was actually our first video. We barely knew what we were doing, but we knew we loved Death. This was a tricky one to rank too. I love all their albums.
1. Sound of Perseverance 2. Individual Thought Patterns 3. Symbolic 4. Human 5. Spiritual Healing 6. Leprosy 7. Scream Bloody Gore I’m such a sucker for the technical side of Death and being a bassist and big Steve and Hoglan fan I had to put Individual higher...great list boys!
Good video; I'm a big of an oddball on Death because, even though I love all their albums, my two favorites are the polar opposites: Scream Bloody Gore and Sound of Perseverance lol. I do love me some Spiritual Healing and Leprosy however.
#1 - Leprosy #2 - Human #3 - Spiritual Healing #4 - Individual Thought Patterns #5 - Symbolic #6 - Sounds of Perseverance #7 - Scream Bloody Gore There's no bad album in the bunch, I just go by how I much I love these albums. I love some more than others, I was into Death Metal in the early 90's when it was still in it's infancy stage.
I was listening to Individual Thought Patterns the other day, and the opening riff for The Philospher came on and my Fiancee said "This sounds like Mannheim Steamroller." I was like well fuck.
7, Leprosy (I may be the only metal fan in the world, but I never liked this album) 6, Sound of Perseverance (I don't like the vocals and I hate the drums) 5, Individual thought Patterns 4, Scream Bloody Gore 3, Spiritual Healing 2, Human 1, Symbolic (kind of surprised it was that low on your Lists.. one of the best Albums ever in my opinion. And Hoglan's work here is so incredibly amazing !!)
1. Spiritual Healing 2. Leprosy 3. Scream Bloody Gore 4. Symbolic 5. Human 6. Individual Thought Patterns 7. The Sound Of Perseverance On a side note, Seven Churches is the first death metal album, even Chuck said so.
1. Leprosy (Pull The Plug first ever song I heard from Death) 2. Spiritual Healing (Greatest album cover, Within The Mind is a top 5 track from me) 3. Individual Thought Patterns (Most technical album extremely tight) 4. Symbolic (Empty Words is a top 5 track to me) 5. Human (2nd tightest album, Lack of Comprehension is a top 5 track) 6. The Fragile Art of Existence (Sorry guys this is a Death album to me. I love it more than The Sound of Perseverance. I hate covers... 7. The Sound of Perseverance 8. Scream Bloody Gore
I'm 24 years old and have only been listening to extreme metal for the past 2-3 years so my tastes may change (and I have yet to hear every classic band) but I think it says something that Death are the only death metal band in my 50 favorite bands of all time. Here's my ranking. 1. Human 2. Individual Though Patterns 3. Spiritual Healing 4. Leprosy 5. Scream Bloody Gore 6. Symbolic 7. The Sound Of Perseverance
I like all Death albums, but here's how they rank for me. "Death Metal" Death: 1) Spiritual Healing (James Murphy was such a step up above Rick Rozz and actually a better guitarist than Chuck at the time of the album. My favorite guitar duo in metal.) 2) Leprosy 3) Scream Bloody Gore "Tech Death" Death: 1) Symbolic 2) Individual Thought Patterns 3) The Sound of Perseverance 4) Human (I think I'm the most at odds with the metal community on this album. It may have been groundbreaking at the time, but listening to it in hindsight it's very sterile and unremarkable compared to the other albums, imo.)
My jaw dropped seeing leprosy so low. If I was to play one song to someone to teach them what death metal is, it would be Pull The Plug. I guess it’s not surprising that the one who correctly voted it No. 1 correctly rated Sepultura’s Arise as number one... 🤔
1.TSOP 2.Symbolic 3.Spiritual Healing 4.Human 5.ITP 6.Leprosy 7.Screaming Bloody Gore I don't consider late Death as Death Metal, just some of the greatest Metal albums full stop.
1. The Sound Of Perseverance 2. Individual Thought Patterns 3. Symbolic 4. Human 5. Spiritual Healing (This low mainly due to Production) 6. Scream Bloody Gore 7. Leprosy (Too straight forward for me and too much like its predecessor)
7. Individual Thought Patterns 6. Human 5. Spiritual Healing 4. Symbolic 3. Scream Bloody Gore 2. The Sound Of Perseverance 1. Leprosy (the ultimate, ground zero DM album)
I love all their albums, but if I'm forced: 1. Spiritual Healing 2. Leprosy 3. Individual Thought Patterns 4.Sounds of Perseverance 5.Symbolic 6. Human 7. Scream Bloody Gore
[1]SPIRITUAL HEALING ("down-tuned heaven"!😍 vocal-effects & production give me an 'Obituary vibe' =LOVE Obituary!) [2]LEPROSY (monumental, unforgettable tracks) [3]INDIVIDUAL THOUGHT PATTERNS (was blown away when this was released, start-to-finish, an accomplished, unique, body of work) [4]HUMAN (prefer standout tracks on this to 'ITP', but not as 'complete' an album. -Thankfully have the original CD without 'GodOfThunder'!) [5]SCREAM BLOODY GORE (classic, in it's rawest form. I need to get the re-master!) [6]SYMBOLIC (fascinating how far Chuck progressed, the last 'Death' album, for me [7]SOUND OF PERSEVERANCE (still can't get past the vocals.. +was full-on into black metal by the time this was released) I'd love you guys to do an Obituary ranking!!
Lol I think Spiritual Healing is by far the worst Death album. To each their own though, it's hard to pick a number 1 for me but depending on the day it's between Leprosy, Human, or Individual Thought Patterns Also just out of curiosity I noticed on these discovery rankings you guys listen/judge the bonus tracks on albums God of Thunder in Human being the example. That song weakens that album so much, the original version ends with Vacant Planets. I think it's better if you guys didn't do that just some food for thought. Just discovered your channel subbed fo sure
The only band with an extensive discography, that have only released great albums. All killer, no filler. 1. Human 2. Leprosy 3. Individual Thought Patterns 4. The Sound of Perseverance 5. Scream Bloody Gore 6. Symbolic 7. Spiritual Healing
I loved your video, you guy's seem really cool BUT you got the date wrong for Scream, Bloody, Gore it's 1987 respectfully no hate or trolling it just bothers me when people get the little stuff wrong Also here's my rankings 1 Leprosy 2 Symbolic 3 Human 4 Scream, Bloody, Gore 5 Sound Through Perseverance 6 Spiritual Healing 7 Individual Thought Patterns
Necrotic Nick- I noticed that after I watched it a couple of times. It was our first video and we were all nervous and kinda going in a bit blind. Still, it was a lot of fun and we're looking forward to getting back to doing these again. Love the fact you have Leprosy #1, bro.
