The famous old person known for saying "I want to be alone" is Greta Garbo, the iconic Swedish-American actress. This quote is often associated with her and is from the 1932 film "Grand Hotel," in which she played the character Grusinskaya. The full line is actually, "I want to be alone; I just want to be alone." Greta Garbo was known for her desire for privacy and her reclusive nature, which contributed to the enduring popularity of this quote.

My take on the potion is that they weren’t supposed to die after taking it. Hence why Lisle told them to take care of your bodies. Since they died, they now became undead, immortal but now slowly decaying. If they were still alive certain minor injuries probably would’ve healed themselves like normal. But since they died, it negated all that. Shoulda added that in the fine print lol

The box had an Egyptian ankh. The ankh, also known as the key of life or the key of the Nile, is a symbol that comes from ancient Egypt. Though its physical origins are uncertain, scholars believe it originated around the 30th to the 29th century BC. The symbol is similar to a cross, but the ankh displays a teardrop shape in place of the upper vertical bar.

The many, many, many deleted scenes gave the characters more depth but they chose to make it a more fast paced film and reshot the ending. The Musical is coming out next year... so it would be perfect time to release a 4K extended cut of Death Becomes Her. Deleted scenes in chronological order (not all of them but most): Ernest and Madeline's actual wedding scene where we hear Ernest's vows, kiss and Madeline grabs Ernest's crotch. Rose get's told to work while it's her night off. Mad threatens Ernest to "watch his step" with Helen. Dakota and Madeline meet (in bed) at the beach house and both stare in mirrors talking about their problems. Madeline notices a line on her face caused by one of Dakota's pillows and goes crazy. Ernest visits his favorite bar called 'Dominicks'... Toni (Tracey Ullman) works there and a drunk comatose guy is there as well... Ernest says he envies the man for having no life.... and no wife. Madeline & Ernest at mansion get ready to leave for the Bookparty. Ernest has cut himself shaving and the maid tries to fix the label on Mad's dress... Mad is being dramatic about going and talks about her tough youth while the maid mouths the words along cause she has heard the sob story many times before. Madeline's agent (Jonathan Silverman) gossips about Madeline with a Starlet. Mad asks him if he has any jobs for her. An old plastic surgery client of Ernest talks with him about the great work he used to do (before Vivian Adams walks up) Helen tells Ernest what happened to her after they broke up, it's also clear she is completely obsessed with exercising. Madeline and Dakota have a phone conversation (after she arrives back from Lisle's) while Ernest secretly listens in. A worker at the morgue talks to Ernest while he is working on the corpse of a dead Priest (that's why the nuns were there). He shoves the slab in but doesn't lock the door correctly... so it comes rolling out slowly again...while Ernest is talking to Madeline Ernest bumps into the Priest's slab with his ass (just before: It's a miracle!!!) Ernest picks up the formaldehyde but doesnt go home... he drives to Helen's hotel so she drives like a maniac, hits a bagage cart at the Beverly Hills Hotel and a Valet jumps out of the way. Ernest stops at the hotel just as she has run in. When Helen is inside her room she is shoving the evidence of her obsession into another room. Ernest knocks on the door and gets dragged in. Helen doesn't believe Mad is alive like Ernest claims and she comes up with the death valley burial plan. Ernest goes on about the miracle so Helen throws a glass of water in his face. He says Madeline will become suspicious if he'll stay longer, so he leaves...and tells her he loves her. Helen tears her hand open again with a hankerchief and screams. Next morning the maid comes into the house via the kitchen. She and the other maids notice all the mess in the kitchen and then finds Madeline stuck in the freezer. Ernest says its just a beauty thing Madeline has read about in a magazine and then pulls her out. Slowly Madeline thaws a little she gets up and she puts avocado on her face to make it actually look like a beauty treatment. Rose and the maids get fired while Madeline tries to walk up the stairs. When everyone is gone Ernest pulls stiff Mad up the stairs himself and promises her to make her his masterpiece. Helen exercising like crazy in the hotelroom while a bellhop brings her maps of Death Valley, she asks him when the sun sets. Helen shopping for the hardware at night and after the clerk scans everything he asks her if she wants a headstone to go with it. After their fight Helen is so upset with her hole that Mad gives her a glass of water... but it goes right through Helen. Lisle tells Ernest she is 600 years old and that when Shakespeare, Lincoln and Max Factor refused to take the potion she killed them. Lisle opens the party with a silly joke she heard earlier from Dick Clarke. Catherine Bell... who is Isabella Rosselini's nude double in this film plays a flower girl in this scene. Ernest awakes on the floor of the pool... then sees the potionbottle floating, intact. He grabs it and threatens Jim Morrison they will all be done very soon, shows them the potion and runs of with it. One shot of him holding the potion remains and you can see it @ 40:14 Lisle threatens to bury Hel and Mad if they don't retreive the potion Mad and Hel search for Ernest at the mansion. They see the liquorcart and realise he has gone to the bar. Ernest and Toni decide to go public with the potionbottle but Ernest feels the two women will always be after him... so he needs to disappear or ... die... Toni's drunk customer sees the potion too and drops dead on the bar counter. Toni and Ernest dress him up as Ernest to fool Mad and Hel. Toni distracts Madeline and Helen with the potionbottle so Mad misidentifies 'Ernest's' corpse. 27 years later... Ernest and Toni are old... in a park in Switzerland, having a picnic while the evil ladies sit on a balcony, still looking stunning, bickering about where to go next, cause they are bored out of their brains. They watch the old couple, Madeline ridicules them... but Helen now longs for a mortal life. Ernest still has the young left hand and he covers Toni's old hand. The eternal women watch them... maybe realising who they are... and we see a flash of skulls over their faces as the movie fades to black. The potion was one million dollars 38:07 Greta Garbo is on the right

In case no one mentioned it, the younger guy Meryl Streep's character was having a fling with was the same actor who played Larry in The Stand miniseries.
@XanArt21
@XanArt21 9 месяцев назад
He actually had another scene with Meryl earlier in the film that got removed... after Ernest is ready for work, passes Madeline's room, they walk down and in the foyer (this was cut too) Madeline warns him to not get too chummy with Helen at the party. She says she doesn't tolerate infidelity... then we cut to her in bed with Dakota at the beach house... both of them completely self involved looking at themselves in strategically placed mirrors (you can see those in the other remaining scene). Eventually Madeline notices a line on her face caused by a pillow and goes berserk (this is what prompts her to go for an emergency meeting at the salon). He also calls Madeline to reconcile when she get's back home from Lisle. They talk for awhile passive aggressively, then start flirting again and Ernest hears everything then Mad throws the door shut in his face. So that's where she was going just before she get's 'killed'.

someone on youtube had two fascinating theories on Lisa and her magic potion. one theory i remember clearly is that she is Descendant from ancient Egyptian gods and the youngest of children since she's only in her 70's. the way Lisa had a whole Egyptian motif with how she kept the potion ect were clues to this theory, and that the magic was related to something isis used to resurrect Osirius with. who in many eygptian stories is murdered, cut up in many pieces or decapitated or crushed and some how isis would use something( i forget what the item was called) but according to the person's theory that item is the potion Lisa gives her clients. and since gods need people to worship them to keep them existing, all these people she's infected with her magic elixir are in a way more then clients they're people who worship her. in a deleted script where lisa helen and Madelyn see Ernest drive off in the stollen vehicle and she tells them to go get him there's an extended scene where Madeline says what will you do if we can't kill us? Lisa tells them she'll bury them. (that was an extended scene that was in the script but either deleted or cut out) however, that deleted bit of lisa's threat if Helen and Madelyn fail she'll bury him is also something in an eypgtian legend about osiris where his limbs were still living but when his enemies buried them they became line stone, so that scene hinted Lisa knew a way to possibly end their immortality or a temporary method because when isis found Osiris buried limbs they showed signs of life, and became whole when she put them together.

I was under the impression the potion was from ancient egyptian times. Egyptians back then were fascinated with life after death and preservation (think of their elaborate embalming process), so maybe they came up with the ultimate body preservation elixir using some magical means? And maybe the myth of reanimated mummies is in fact entirely real and they are simply juiced up and stuck alive in rotting bodies??
@fredfredburger5150
@fredfredburger5150 9 месяцев назад
I love that mummies theory! I read theories that Isabella Rossellini's character is actually Cleopatra. Also if you freeze frame on some of the scenes with a close-up of the potion you can see human shaped figures floating around in it. This leads me to believe the potion is made from a human soul. Perhaps the souls of those who refused to take it? Or maybe the souls of those like Madeline and Helen who destroyed their bodies and were then...recycled?
@xen0bia
@xen0bia 9 месяцев назад
@@fredfredburger5150 Oh ya, I absolutely believe Rossellini was intented to be Cleopatra. And ya, it could be made up of souls, maybe provided by Osiris or Anubis? It had to start somewhere.

This is an iconic movie just because of Meryl Streep poking fun at herself as much as the Hollywood culture of eternal youth. People used to claim that she was obsessed with her appearance and demanded to be lit a certain way or filmed from a certain angle, so this movie gave her a chance to totally betray that imposed reputation, and with real poetic artistry too.

Completely unrelated to the reaction itself, but: You two are couple goals. A gentleman who sees the beauty in his wife even when -- possibly especially when -- she doesn't see it in herself. A lady who acknowledges where she might have come across as more negative than she meant and addresses those moments with her husband. And a couple who are raising their children with support and encouragement while still giving them structure and self-reliance to teach discipline in a loving way. You two are the best. Never stop being amazing to each other.

This movie came out when i was 13 years old and I definitely remember feeling some kind of something at the time about 47 year old Goldie Hawn, 44 year old Meryl Streep and 41 year old Isabella Rosselini in this...they all looked so good and this movie is honestly probably the inception of my long standing attraction to older women 😏

Great minds think alike. I also said that guy standing by the pool after Bruce falls through the glass ceiling was Van Morrison. It's of course Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors. I don't know why my mind went to Van Morrison first. Especially since I have zero familiarity with him or what he looks like.

Fun Fact: Originally, Tracy Ullman was in this movie... she can still be seen in the original trailer... but her character, a bartender who worked for Ernest and Madeline, was cut from the movie when the ending was changed. Originally, Mad and Hel convinced Ernest to stay with them and maintain their beauty, but he didn't take the potion, and has subsequently fallen in love with Ullman's character, who also aged normally. The group has relocated to Switzerland, away from the public eye. While the aging pair enjoy their time together, the ageless and still beautiful Mad and Hel are bored out of their minds. The final shot is of the two women, as the movie fades to black, a single-frame shot of two human skulls are superimposed over their faces. Zemeckis was inspired to do this by the final shot of Norman Bates in *Psycho* , which does the same trick. Test audiences didn't care for that ending, thinking it didn't fit the mood of the film, and it was changed. While the internet has info on that scene, the alternate ending itself seems to have vanished.
@XanArt21

Toni (Tracey Ullman) didn't work for them... she worked at Ernest's favorite neighbourhood bar (Dominick's). Rose (Nancy Fish) worked for them... most of her scenes were cut as well... which is sad. Ernest wasn't maintaining them, he had no idea they were up there and they had no idea the old couple picnicking is Toni and Ernest... up til the end... maybe they realise... but that's left ambiguous. Madeline says she has to be touched up again cause she is shedding paint from top to bottom (hinting it's from her upperback to her ass) and that she has to call Lisle again and Helen says that 'Lisle's guy' is no Ernest...
